June School Council Meeting Summary On Monday evening, school Council convened for the June meeting. The following items were discussed and/or ratified:

Staff car park- So far there has only been one quote returned so the company managing the project are waiting for two further

quotes before we can select a contractor to complete this project.

School Uniform- The school has reduced the items on the uniform list and are currently clearing stock at a reduced price that will

discontinue. We are also looking at a few changes for 2018 onwards that will include a new hat design without a cord and a two

toned polo shirt.

Bus incident- Reflecting on this incident, it is important that the school reviews related policies and practices and make any

adjustments deemed necessary. Overall the Council were really pleased with the actions and processes the school followed in

regards to this incident.

Student Leaders Step Up Over the previous two weeks, I have had the privilege of working closely with many of the school leaders in various forums and I

have been most impressed with their confidence, articulation and leadership.

China: Having spent 10 days in China with four of our school leaders was a wonderful way to get to know them better and their

leadership qualities did not disappoint, especially during visits to our Sister School, Jinji Lake PS.

Radio stars in the making: Last Friday Cameron E and Alex K accompanied me to Phoenix FM community radio to be interviewed

about our school. The two students were well prepared and confident and even received some feedback from a listener noting how

articulate they were.

Surprise visit by the Regional Director of Education for North West: On Friday afternoon, Jeanette Nagorcka, our Region’s Director

of Education visited White Hills PS for the first time. Without notice, I engaged the assistance of Matthew S and Angeline A, who

were both engaging, informative and helpful. Jeannette was most impressed at how communicative both kids were and how

knowledgeable they were about the school and in particular the programs, activities and arrangements in the senior school.

We Want Our Students to Tell Us What They Think We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction and are conducting a survey

to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department

of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school

will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience.

The Department has updated the survey for 2017 to include important new measures that are known to influence student engagement

and performance. Students from Years 4, 5 to 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey

online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. It is important to note that we are not in any way “testing”

your child. Your child has the right to refuse or withdraw from the survey at any point before, during, or after completion of the

survey.

Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. Your child’s privacy and the confidentiality of your child’s

survey responses will be protected at all times. No identifiable personal data is included in the survey response file.

The survey results will be reported back to the school in term 3. No student can be identified in the results reported to schools or in

any other report of the data.

This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school over the period Monday 19 to Friday 23 June. The survey

only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time.

Please speak to Scott Ross, myself or your child’s teacher if you would like more information or visit the Department of Education

and Training website:

http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/management/Pages/performsurveyat.aspx.

Uniform Shop Stocktake Sale The Uniform Shop is having a sale of selected items with reduced prices. Please refer to the note and new price

list sent home with all students last week.

Please note: Sale Items are only available to purchase in store only, Qkr is not available.

Bike Education

Last week Miss Jenkyn and Mr Dickins were fortunate to attend Bike Education sessions for teachers, which will further enhance

the Bike Ed program at White Hills in the Grade 3 and 4 area.

The program was kindly supported by Road Safe Central Victoria, who funded the cost of the program, for the staff members who

attended.

Please let us know if there is anything further that we can do to support you here at WHPS

PROVISION OF MORE OFF STREET PARKING AT WHITE HILLS SHOPS

We, the undersigned being residents of White Hills and surrounding areas, urgently request that VicRoads/The Victorian Government and City of Greater Bendigo provide more off street parking for the retail shops in White Hills [in particular vacant land at the rear of the shops - 8 Plumridge Street]. The proposed VicRoads plan does not address residents’ safety and access concerns.

The petition will be in all local White Hills shops until early July for interested residents to sign.

Please note: We also have a folder in the foyer at the main

entrance of our school containing information on local

community activities including sport, businesses and general

advertising, for everyone to look at.
