The approach ofan important deadlineIt is a statistical fact that the ‘average’ life span of a woman is greater than that of a man.
Traditionally this has been refl ected in the life assurance industry, by offering more favourable terms to women than to men of the same age.
However this is about to change on the 21st December 2012
The European Court of Justice has ruled that insurers will no longer be able to use a person’s gender as a factor in calculating the cost of their insurance.
This could result in life assurance rates for men falling to the level that women pay, or it could result in payments for women increasing to the same level for men.
So which way do you think it will go?
I think we all know the answer to that!
Not only is it likely that female life assurance rates will increase on the 21st December 2012, but the same will apply to joint life assurance policies that cover a man and woman.
In addition to this, it is very probable that Income Protection rates for men will increase on the same date.
The message is very clear – If you are thinking about reviewing your protection needs, the time to do it is now.
