Bag by Marilyn Scheller; Stamps: Whimsy Stamps Season’sGreetings Sentiments; Papers: Imaginisce Polar Expressions;Tools: Whimsy Stamps Shape EZ Poinsettia and Roll Bag tem-plates; Embellishments: Pearl brad from the stash; the ribbon isfrom Really Reasonable Ribbon Techniques: Since I don’t have acutting machine, I simply printed the template on the wrong sideof the paper, cut it out, scored the fold lines, and ran a couplestrips of glue and the bag are nearly finished. I cut two holes frontand back, pulled the ribbon through and tied the bow. For thepoinsettia (because I didn’t want to run glitter paper through theprinter,) I printed it on plain white paper and attached it to theglitter paper with a dab of adhesive and cut around the edges. Then some silver stickles and a pearl brad were added to com-plete the flower. The sentiment is printed and the matting is cutusing a small rectangle Nestabilities and adding silver Sticklesaround the border.

Tell us a little about yourself - anything you'd like to share about youpersonally."By small and simple means are great things brought to pass," is one ofmy favorite quotes. I am the eldest in my family, and the eldest grand-child on my Mother's side. I love dark chocolate. My most favorite soundin the world is hearing my children laugh. My other most favorite ishearing my husband sing to me. My second most favorite sound is lis-tening to the birds sing in the morning. My first kiss was when I was 18years old (and I hated it lol!). My husband and I met on a humanitarianmission in Utah. He wrote to me one month after he got home, and wecontinued to write to each other, and naturally, we fell in love. 9 monthslater, I finally went home to Australia. I got a letter from him in the mailwhere he had written he loved me for the first time. We rang up hugephone bills talking every day on the phone. We sent at least a bajillionemails to each other. The sound of dial up internet holds a special placein my heart. 7.5 months later, I flew to Arizona and he proposed to mein front of Taco Bell. I said, YES! He was my second kiss. And I LOVED it.Simple can be super powerful. ;)

We are very excited to introduce you to our newest rubber stamp artist, Elisabeth Bell! Elisabeth lent her talents in thedesign our of beautiful company logo and now we have her gorgeous Little Cottage Cuties Collection at Whimsy. It’sbeen a true joy to work with Elisabeth and an honor to share her designs at Whimsy Stamps.

In the Spotlight: Artist Interview with Elisabeth Bell

How did you start your art career? Did you always want to be an art-ist?Oh, ALWAYS. I think I was BORN with a pencil and sketch book in myhand! When I was little, I loved to read Disney Golden Books. Haveyou read the classic, The Big Golden Book of Cinderella, that was pub-lished in the 1950s? It was my absolute favorite. I would sit for whatseemed like hours drawing her pretty dresses. My Dad believed in mytalent, and when I was 16 years old, every day after school he tookme to extra-curricular art classes to further my creative finesse. AfterI graduated from high school, I applied for the Bachelor of Visual Artsin Animation degree course at the Queensland College of Art, in Bris-bane, Australia, the only degree course in Animation offered in theentire Southern Hemisphere. There were hundreds of entrants eachyear, and no more than 25 were chosen. When I read my name in thenewspaper on the day the successful entrants were announced, itwas the beginning of something big for me. But I believe my art ca-reer started a long time before I scribbled my first drawing in my weeyears of kinder-hood. I truly feel that being an artist is my personalcalling, among other things such as Motherhood. So have I alwayswanted to be an artist? The answer to that is simple: Yes. It is an an-swer that will forever be profound to me, as it is the basis of Who Iam. I will always be thankful to my Dad for his eternal belief in me.

How did you become a rubber stamp artist? What do you love mostabout illustrating rubber stamps? In 2008, I was contacted by a rubber stamp company from the UK.They had seen my portfolio online, and they liked my earlier images.Little did I know at the time how this contact would effect my creativecareer. These past few years have been an inspiring journey, filledwith adventure and lots, and lots of positive learning. When Denise,

my lovely friend and owner of Whimsy Stamps, and I began our communications in 2011 to begin working together, it was a HUGEhonor to get to know her, and to begin yet another incredible journey with this prominent and growing rubber stamp company thatwe all know and love. Doing what I do is the type of life many artists dream of, and I have the exceptional blessing of living it. Grant-ed, it's not always easy, especially with young children and juggling school, housework, errands and a home to run and keep "glued"together. My secret weapon is my dearest husband. Not only is he handsome and good at just about everything, he is downrightAWEsome! He is my Right Hand Man, and Partner in Everything. It is because of him that I am able to do what I do and find joy ineach of my callings.

Among the many things that I love about illustrating rubber stamp designs is the freedom - the freedom to express myself as a Cre-ative in designing images that help to bring joy to others, and the freedom to run my business from my own home around my family. The ability to meet and to work with countless amazing people over the past number of years in this industry is a fantastic privilegethat I continue to experience each week. Being able to do what I love from the comfort of my own home around my family, beingable to set my own schedule so that I still have time for those who I hold dear, is a profound blessing that I do not take lightly. Hav-ing the ability to help make a living through my art to bless my loved ones is something I hold sacred. To be an artist in this techno-logical day and era is a massive blessing, and I owe it to the people I work with, my loved ones, including those who love my work, who make all this possible.

What is your absolute favorite of the Whimsy Stamps that you've illustrated?Oh man, I love them all! To choose an absolute favorite is - tough! I'd venture tosay, Ginger Meadows, and April Sunshine. Wait. And Li’l Sweet Tweeter. AND Li’lMontana. ACK! I'm at an impasse LOL.

What inspires you?Definitely my kidlets! Gardens brimming with flowers. Sunshine. All things ShabbyCountry. Dark chocolate. I love to draw and edit with inspirational music blastingfrom my iMac whenever I'm in my art studio. My fave type of music to listen towhile drawing and editing are movie soundtracks. I remember listening to E. S.Posthumus and the Tron soundtrack EVERY day for at least one month straight!

If you weren't an artist, what do you think you would like to do for a career?Humm. I don't know if I'd have a career that wasn't anything creatively related. If Iwasn't an Illustrator, I'd probably (most definitely) be an Animator. Or certainly anInterior Designer. I don't think I'd make a very good Lawyer lol!

What is the one tool/supply you can't live without?Just like trying to decide which is my fave design I've illustrated for Whimsy, thereare a few supplies I simply can't live without. These are my top 3: Adobe Photo-shop, my scanner and Wacom tablet. They all go hand-in-hand. Soon, my can't-do-without tool will include the Cintiq 21UX. It's a sweet technological tool that sim-plifies and enhances one's ability to create art. Oh, sweet simplicity. Now THAT isthe stuff creative dreams are made of! ;)

FIVE new step-by-step tutorials for you to try along withsome fantastic new ideas on how to use chipboard!

© Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine 50 July 2012, Issue 9

Now that you’ve seen some shaped cards, why not try making one of your own!Follow Lori’s tutorial as she guides you through making a fun, shaped number card!

What you’ll need:- Whimsy Stamps Baby Boy EllieStamp- printer (optional)- hole puncher- scissors- Inkssentials Ink Blending Tool- ink pad- embellishments: button, baker’stwin- cardstock/patterned papers

Step 1: Print out a number. I Googled number one clipart. Print the num-ber at approximately 6 inches either wide or tall depending on the num-ber. Cut out the shape and then place it on top of designer paper andcute the shape out again.

Step 2: Sponge the edges. I used Tim Holtz WildHoney Distress Ink.

Tips & Tutorials: Number Shaped Card

Step 3: Glue the cut out to the solid cardstock and cut out leav-ing an 1/8 inch border. For mine it was a filp over card if youwould like it to open like a regular card. Fold the piece of Card-stock in half. Place your number on the fold. Cut out the sidesbeing sure not to cut at the top of the number along the fold.

Step 4: Cut out three triangle shapes out of various matchingdeisgner papers and punch a hole in either side of the top edgeof all three and sponge the sides.

Step 5: Run your twine through the three pieces. Now, sim-ply stamp out, colour your stamp and embellish as desired.

Shaped Card by Lori Pachkowsky; Stamps: Whimsy Stamps BabyBoy Ellie; Coloring Medium: Copic Markers, Tim Holtz Wild HoneyDistressed Ink for sponging; Papers: DCWV Celebration, Red Card-stock; Embellishments: Designer Paper Pennants, Celebrate CutOuts, Button; Tools: Scissors, Sponge Tool, Paper Punch, Printer

Do you find that using various mediums in your projects is the "spice of your creativelife"?  If you're like me and you get excited when you can change up your mediums, you're going to want to try the chipboard designs at Make It Crafty!  These beautifullyintricate embellishments will take on just about anything you can paste, glue, heat orcolor on them.  I'm excited to share what I've been working on with you today.

Quick Tips by Tammy Louise Cunliffe

© Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine 53 July 2012, Issue 9

Tips & Tutorials: Make it Crafty Chipboard

I colored in the stem first from light to dark using thefollowing: E35,E37,E29

Because the paper had a hue of yellow, I chose toadd these yellows to some of the small buds on thechip board. Copics used: YG01, YG95

I coated the flower blossoms with lightest colorfirst, then from the center outward with the tip onlyin flicking swipes I add the medium color then inshorter less seldom flicks with the darkest tone.Copics used: BG000,BG23,BG75

Copic markers don't blend quite as well as usual on chipboard but if a layer of lightink is used as a base coat and the colors are built up from light to dark, the chip-board will allow the color to become very visible.  The chipboard looks very realis-tic when applying the soft muted colors of alcohol ink to them.

Tips & Tutorials: Make it Crafty Chipboard

These are some of the little extra pieces Ranger Distress Ink stamped on a waterproof surfaceto water color with

Place the chipboard “stencil” whereyou want it and tape down

I placed a different stencil into the center and continued topaint with water distress, first the Vintage Photo then theFaded Jeans colors

This is the DP with watercolor distress using theexcess chipboard stencil

After the chips designs are cut from the plate of laser cuts, I realized that the plate itself is really gorgeous.  As I was appreciatingthem, my creative juices started flowing.  I decided to cut outside 1/8 inch all the way around a few designs and used them as a sten-cil template. Water coloring now with distress ink and two different templates, I started with Vintage Photo then Faded Jeans for theblossoms.  It worked wonderfully!  The inside design is a perfect match for the chipboard, of course, and adds a personal touch to theinside of the project without adding bulk!

Water color with thin paintbrush Paint and remove the stencil

If you are like me than you have hundreds of flowers in all kinds of colorsand shades, but sometimes you just can't find the perfect flower for yourproject! How frustrating! This is when these plain white or off-whitepaper flowers come in quite handy. Just make them match your projectusing your Copics and other embellishments.

Quick Tip by Iris Wiechmann

What you’llneed:- white paper flowers- Copics in differentcolors- embellishments forflowers(e.g. stamens, brad, glit-ter, matching coloredflowers etc.)

Step 1: For my flower I chose shades from the RV60's color rangeand RV10 and RV00 as my lightest colors.

Step 2: I start by adding a circle in the center of the flowerusing RV63

1 2

© Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine 56 July 2012, Issue 9

Tips & Tutorials: Colored Flowers

Step 3: Then I take my next darker color, RV66, adding someshades to the center Step 4: Back to my lighter color RV63, I try to blend it

slightly. These paper flowers are soaking up the inkform the markers pretty quick so just add the color verylight handed!

Step 5: Using RV00 or RV10 I try to blend even more andsoften the outer edge of my color circle.

Step 6: Add some tiny dots with the darkest color RV69. Goall over your colored center and spread out towards the pet-als. You can also use the darkest shade in the very center ofthe flower to add some more dimension.

Step 7: Using the colorless blender you can soften some ofthe dots or make them lighter.

Add stamens, pearls, brads, glitter etc. to finish your flower.
