“BAIT” – Lures Subscribers Into Your Sphere of Influence (your list)…
• The “bait” is the strong reason WHY people should subscribe to your list.
• It’s critical that you have the RIGHT bait.
• The wrong bait WILL work, but it results in mediocre optins.
Finding Your Bait (example: Woodworking niche)
1. What do your visitors actually want? • They want free woodworking plans
• Can I give them some?
• Plans with White Label Rights (or PLR plans)
• Advice about woodworking projects • Warnings, tips, tricks etc
• Advice about your niche (Acne/Adsense/Diablo/iPad etc)
2. Check what your competitors are doing… • Sign up to competitors email series
3. Contact the vendor and ask them for a free report/gift to give away
4. Buy/rent a book and re-use it’s advice

Do You Already Have An SPF Record Set Up?
• Set your “SPF record”
• You set this up wherever your domain is HOSTED (not where it’s registered)
• Easy to set up, you just need to modify the DNS setting (and know what to set them to)
SPF Record
Step 2: Add SPF Record information In the “TXT Data” box, enter the following:
v=spf1 a mx ptr include:icpbounce.com include:aweber.com ~all
Click “Add Record” to finish the process
How To Set Your SPF Record
• Make sure your domain has a UNIQUE IP address • If you share an IP address, you’re exposed to being
classified as Spam EVEN if you’re sending good emails.
Example: IP address 192.185.137.202 is a shared address… lets check it out using this tool: http://multirbl.valli.org/lookup/
IP Address
• iContact etc all use “IP Pools” to send out emails
• Your website IP is passed through this IP Pool, so while both IP’s matter, the one that’s MOST important (and the one you control) is YOUR websites IP address – so MAKE SURE it’s unique.
Easy Solution: Get a Host Gator business account (with SSL) – these also come with dedicated IP addresses J
More IP Address Info
• Unfamiliar characters in the Subject Line (or simply copying and pasting your subject line from another program can trigger spam)
• Using TinyURL links in your message can trigger spam (because the provider has no way of knowing where they go)
• Spam Words, Dollar Signs, Too Many Links etc
What Triggers A Spam Alert?
• Always, Always, ALWAYS send a test message • Check formatting, check it lands in Inbox
• Create a test email list • Send a REAL broadcast to a REAL list (which is a
test list with just a few emails on it – these should be emails you own so that you can check the email arrived)
Test Emails
• We now use HTML messages, because we want to track EVERYTHING
• Use call to action text, not URLs
Example (from our iContact rep):
HTML vs Plain Text Messages
Using Raw Links
Using Call to Action Links
