Sunday 18th September

Welcome to York St John University, City Residence, Lord Mayor’s Walk, Limes Court and the other half of Gray’s Wharf & Percy’s Lane people !! Key collection for your accommodation is happening in Temple Hall during the day; you will have been given a time window to keep to. The Students’ Union’s Welcome Team will be there in their bright pink t-shirts when you collect your keys so you can grab them and ask us any questions you may have. Also the Students’ Union Bar and Shop will be open so pop over and see us and collect your Entertainment Pass Wristband.

At 6pm your Welcome Talks begin in the Fountains Building on campus. We’ll be having a BBQ outside the Students’ Union so you can get something to eat. If you’re not sure where to go, grab one of the Welcome Team in the pink t-shirts and they will help you. Welcome talks happen until 8pm, and then it’s time for the City Residence, Lord Mayor’s Walk, Limes Court and the other half of Gray’s Wharf & Percy’s Lane Block Party at the Students’ Union – a chance to make lots of new friends and of course there’ll be great music and drinks deals !! Plus, if you’ve not already done so, you can collect your Entertainment Pass Wristband.

Grange, Gray’s and Percy’s people who had their block party on Saturday night - don’t worry! Tonight your entertainment is a House Party in your halls of residence and a chance to get to know your neighbours !!

Saturday 17th September

Welcome to York St John University, Grange, Gray’s Wharf and Percy’s Lane people !! Monday 19th September

Get to know the York St John University campus by joining one of our Campus Tours. Just come to the Students’ Union reception at 10am, 12 noon or 2pm and the Welcome Team will be there to show you around.

Also today, if you want to take in some history, then meet at the Students’ Union reception at 12 noon because we have arranged discounted tours of some of York’s museums including the Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum and National Railway Museum. Again the Welcome Team will be at the Students’ Union to look after you.

At 1pm we’re planning on walking the walls of the historic city of York and showing you some of the sights. If you want to join us then meet at the Students’ Union at 1pm. Then it’s time to launch the YSJSU Bowling Club, meet at the Students’ Union at 6pm and we’ll be showing you the bus routes to take you to Ten Pin for some bowling fun, plus we’ve organised some discounts for you too !!

To round the day off, we’re launching our Monday night FUNHOUSE at 8pm with a WHERE’S WALLY party so make sure you’re wearing red and white stripes, then it’s off to the GALLERY NIGHTCLUB, our official Monday night club night where the WHERE’S WALLY party continues; wristband people are able to jump the queue at THE GALLERY and get in for FREE providing you are in BEFORE 11.30PM - after this time you will no longer be able to jump the queue and you will have to pay an entrance charge.

Tuesday 20th September

If you didn’t get the chance yesterday, then get to know the York St John University campus today by joining one of our Campus Tours. To do this just come to the Students’ Union reception at 10am, 12 noon or 2pm and the Welcome Team will be there to show you around.

Plus if you’ve not yet had chance to explore the city, you can go on one of our quick city tours. The Welcome Team can guide you round some of the key sights so you can get to know your new home better. Tours will be leaving from the Union Reception at 11am and 1pm.

It’s time for a scare in the evening, we’ve organised a Ghost Walk in York for just £4 each, if you want to come along then meet at the Students’ Union at 6pm for a quick drink and then the Welcome Helpers will show you where to go. Spaces for this event are limited so to guarantee your space please purchase a ticket in advance from the Students’ Union reception or online at www.ysjsu.com/events to avoid disappointment.

At 8pm we’ll be launching our LIVE MIC night, this is a chance for budding musicians, performers, comedians and poets to do it the old school way and get up and perform on stage in front of your fellow students. Plus to launch this night we’ll have a Special Guest Performer coming down all for just £2. Spaces for this event are limited so to guarantee your space please purchase a ticket in advance from the Students’ Union reception or online at www.ysjsu.com/events to avoid disappointment.

Then we’re off to REVOLUTION for a GO COMMANDO ARMY theme party so we want to see lots of hunky Action Men and sexy GI Janes. Wristband people are able to jump the queue at REVOLUTION and get in for FREE providing you are in BEFORE 11.30PM – after this time you will no longer be able to jump the queue and you will have to pay an entrance charge.

Wednesday 21st September

Today is the busiest day so far for everyone! It’s INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY and we’ll have events going on throughout the day on campus. Pop into the Union Reception to find out what’s happening and check out www.peaceoneday.org/en/welcome for more information on the campaign.

Today is also WELCOME FAIR day in the Sports Hall (Foss Building on campus), which means from 10am to 4pm you can find out what YSJSU and York have to offer you. It’s time to get loads and loads of free stuff from pizza and vouchers to clothes and gifts; plus, all the Sports Teams and Societies will be there so you can sign up to play, do something you’ve always loved or try something new !!

If you get hungry whilst grabbing all your freebies then there’s a BBQ outside the Students’ Union from 12 noon till 2pm, plus we’ll be having a clothing sale so you can get your YSJ branded clothing at a discount rate. Also, you are invited to a special welcome service in the Chapel at 3pm, where you can meet Lukas Njenga, the University Chaplain

Thursday 22nd September

Campus tours are back on today, so get to know the York St John University campus by joining one of the tours. To do this just come to the Students’ Union reception at 10am, 12 noon or 2pm and the Welcome Team will be there to show you around. Also today, we’ve organised some more sightseeing in York, we’ll be walking the walls of the historic city of York and showing you some of the sights, plus, there is an opportunity to take a tour of York Minster, which is FREE with your NUS EXTRA card. For both of these activities, meet at the Students’ Union at 1pm and the Welcome Helper team will be there to look after you.

In the evening it’s time to launch our weekly COMEDY NIGHT that will feature some great and well known comedians from around the country. It starts at 7.30pm in the Students’ Union Lounge. Spaces for this event are limited so to guarantee your space please purchase a ticket in advance from the Students’ Union reception or online at www.ysjsu.com/events to avoid disappointment.

Also happening is the Cruise on the Ouse – a chance to take a trip by boat down York’s famous river. Meet in the Students’ Union Bar at 7.30pm and your Welcome Team will take you to where you need to go. Later in the evening it’s your chance to join our weekly Cinema Club. Meet at the Students’ Union at 5pm and our Welcome Team will take you to the local cinema where we’ve organised some great discounts for you. Then the party really gets started in the Students’ Union at 8pm with the launch of our SPORTS BAR in association with the RIGHT TO PLAY charity. To launch the year we’ll be having a RACE NIGHT in the Students’ Union, then it’s on to SALVATION NIGHTCLUB for the launch of their brand new night BUBBLE RAP. Friday 23rd September

Today is the last day of our tours and walks, so if you haven’t already, then you can join our Welcome Team as they guide you round some of the key sights of the city so you can get to know your new home better. Tours will be leaving from the Union Reception at 12noon and 2pm. We’ll again be walking the walls from 1pm and again this leaves from the Union Reception.

It’s time for a scare in the evening as we’ve booked the York Dungeons for you to visit. Meet in the Students’ Union at 5pm for a quick drink, then it’s off to the York Dungeons with the Welcome Team for fun and frights !! Again, we have organised a great discount rate with York Dungeons so it’s only £7 per person, but spaces for this event are limited so to guarantee your space please purchase a ticket in advance from the Students’ Union reception or online at www.ysjsu.com/events to avoid disappointment.

Friday night means it’s FRIDAY NIGHT PROJECT time !! This is the OFFICIAL in house Students’ Union night; and we’re launching it tonight with a SCHOOL DISCO TRAFFIC LIGHT party, so make sure you bring your old school uniform, with a hint of green if you’re single and looking, orange if you want to be asked, and red for no attention ;) This is a FREE EVENT if you have a wristband, or £3 on the door.

Saturday 24th September

Ever fancied taking a trip to Whitby ? Well today is your chance to do so and take in all the sights including St Hilda’s Abbey and the East Cliff, plus get yourself a taste of some of the best fish and chips in the country !! This event has limited spaces so to guarantee your space please purchase a ticket in advance from the Students’ Union reception or the International Office Reception to avoid disappointment, just £10. Coaches will be leaving from outside the Fountains Building at 9am so make sure you are there by 8.45am please.

Get to the Students’ Union in the daytime because we will be launching the weekend cafeteria menu this weekend, plus starting our SPORTS ON SATURDAYS day times where we use our full Sky package to bring you all the major sporting fixtures. The Bar opens at 12 noon on a weekend and today you will also be able to collect or buy your BATTLE OF THE HALLS t-shirt ready for tomorrow if you haven’t already got one, and if they haven’t already run out !!

In the evening it’s time for some good old fashioned fun as we hold the first official YSJSU BARN DANCE in Temple Hall featuring Roger The Badger. This is a FREE EVENT if you have a wristband, or £3 on the door. The Students’ Union is open until late too so if you don’t fancy the Barn Dance you can chill out and play some pool in the Bar.

Sunday 25th September

This is the big day … the day you get to show your pride in your hall of residence !! 12 noon onwards we will be hosting the first UNION SQUARE HALLS OLYMPICS with some not quite Olympic events. Battle against the other halls of residence in the egg and spoon race, three legged race and even the sack race.

If you don’t fancy taking part then make sure you get to the Union to support your hall friends and also catch some of the SPORTS ON SUNDAYS on the screens in the bar, plus try our freshly launched cafeteria weekend menu.

Then in the evening it’s time for the main event, meeting in the Students’ Union at 7pm let the BATTLE OF THE HALLS bar crawl commence !! This is when YSJSU takeover York and take a route from the Students’ Union to SALVATION NIGHTCLUB via some of Yorks best nightspots. Your t-shirt is your ticket so make sure you buy it in advance on our website and collect it from the Students’ Union on Wednesday 21st September so you can SHOW YOUR COLOURS and represent your hall of residence as York St John Students’ Union takes over the town !!

Monday 26th September

Course introductions and the start of lectures this week, but don’t worry, there’s still lots of fun to be had. At 6pm we’re hosting a fashion show in the Students’ Union Café in aid of the SPARK Foundation. Then at 8pm your in house FUNHOUSE MONDAY continues in the Students’ Union featuring a clothes swap challenge !! Then it’s off to the GALLERY NIGHTCLUB, our official Monday night club night where they’re having a KHAKI’s AND COMBATS fancy dress party; wristband people are able to jump the queue at THE GALLERY and get in for FREE providing you are in BEFORE 11.30PM – after this time you will no longer be able to jump the queue and you will have to pay an entrance charge.

Wednesday 28th September

Today there is a chance for you to grab any household items you may need as we’re organising a

coach trip to IKEA. Meet at the Students’ Union at 12 noon, then just £4 each for the coach trip; but

please plan in advance as spaces for this trip are limited so to guarantee your space please purchase

disappointment.

Thursday 29th September

This evening we’ve got a trip to XSCAPE Yorkshire where there is loads to do including skiing and

climbing, plus they’re expecting us so we will be getting some great offers and discounts, check out

5pm, then it’s just £4 each for the coach tip; but please plan in advance as spaces for this trip are

In the evening it’s time to continue our weekly COMEDY NIGHT featuring another great and well

Tuesday 27th September

At 8pm the weekly chance for budding musicians, performers, comedians and poets to do it the old school way and get up and perform on stage in front of their fellow students continues with our weekly LIVE MIC night, if you want to be part of this then e-mail Alan on [email protected]

Then we’re off to REVOLUTION for a UV RAVE FULL MOON PARTY. Wristband people are able to jump the queue at REVOLUTION and get in for FREE providing you are in BEFORE 11.30PM – after this time you will no longer be able to jump the queue and you will have to pay an entrance charge.

In the evening Cinema Club continues, meet at the Students’ Union at 5pm and our Welcome Team

will take you to the local cinema where we’ve organised more great discounts for you. Then the

party really gets started in the Students’ Union at 8pm with the second week of our SPORTS BAR in

association with the RIGHT TO PLAY charity. We’ll be playing BINGO tonight, then it’s a chance for

you to party with the Sports Teams and Societies as they take you out for the SSHH!! PJ bar crawl

finishing in SALVATION NIGHTCLUB, so don’t forget to wear you PJ’s and bring your teddy. As

before Wristband people are able to jump the queue and get in for FREE providing you are in BEFORE

At York St John we take pride in having a good reputation in the local community. We don't want to risk that reputation, so we ask

that you please be considerate and keep the noise down when walking through residential areas of a night.

On busy nights you may also see one of our Night Marshals patrolling On busy nights you may also see one of our Night Marshals patrolling the streets, making sure you get home safely. The Marshals are fully trained security staff and are great at their jobs. Be sure to say hi

when you see them (but not too loudly).

From 12 noon onwards, get to the Students’ Union in the daytime for something to eat, plus it’s SPORTS ON SATURDAYS during the day where we use our full Sky package to bring you all the major sporting fixtures.

In the evening we’ll be launching our new KARAOKE NIGHT from 8pm onwards, and to launch it we’re playing our version of ‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics’, so make sure you’re in the Students’ Union for what promises to be a great night of karaoke fun !!

Relax at the end of the week from 12 noon and catch some of the SPORTS ON SUNDAYS on the screens in the bar, plus grab something to eat. Then at 8pm it’s time to test your general knowledge in the YSJSU BAR QUIZ which launches tonight, so gather up your clever friends and come and win yourselves some prizes !!
