No surprise to us, she has been elected to the Student Council at her new school. In additional to continuing to develop her leadership skills, she is part of Justin's What's New Dear Tracy, Tomorrow, we begin the final week of the first Quarter! All of our teachers are looking forward to discussing your children's progress at Fall Conferences, Oct 15th 17th. Please make note that Wednesday is a minimum day and Thursday and Friday are nonStudent days. As you will read below, we are about to begin our Kindergarten Sneak Peeks. If you have a Preschooler considering Kindergarten next year, please let us know as soon as possible. Lastly, our picture day was super smooth. Thank you to Beth Reilly and Bree Curotto for helping 181 students through the line. A notice will be sent home within a week to show you how to view and order your pictures. Student Conferences

This year our student conferences will be held October 15th ­17th. October 15th will be a minimumday, and October 16th and 17th are non­student days. The school has set these days aside to meetwith families and, as such, conferences will be available only on these days. We thank you for blockingthese dates for your conference and planning with your child/rens' teachers.

To schedule conferences, you must reserve spots via SchoolSoft, our online scheduling manager. Fornew families, it will require that you create an account. For directions, please click HERE.

To help assist those families with multiple children, your accounts will have access beginning October5th. Those families with a single student will be able to log­on beginning October 6th. We look forwardto seeing you at our Fall Conferences!

Genius Hour This year sixth grade students have the opportunity to spend the Friday classperiod researching and completing a project of their own personal interest.    Genius Hour is based on an innovative idea from Google. They allow theirengineers to spend 20% of their time to work onany pet project that they want. The idea is very

simple.  Allow people to work on something that interests them, andproductivity will go up.   Sixth grade students are researching and creating projects to explorepersonal interests including: photography, painting, battling robots, campingand the outdoors, the stock market, and website design, to name a few.   In addition to exploring a personal interest, students are learning the steps toplan, execute, and present a project. During the project, students arekeeping blogs about their project's progress.  At the conclusion of theirprojects in January, the sixth graders will host Ted­style talks to share whatthey've learned and accomplished.

Every room will be needed for teachers to meet with families. Free Dress for 8th GradeIn recognition of their school spirit at this Friday's middle school dance, 8th grade students haveearned a free dress day on Monday, October 11th. 100% of our 8th graders attended the dance andhad the most invited guests!  Way to go 8th grade.  We love that school spirit!! High School Fair 

 Our High School Fair was well attended and 13 schools came to talk toprospective students.  Schools as close as Sonoma Valley High and as far asCate School in Carpinteria, Thatcher in Ojai, and Stevenson in Carmel!  Speakingof Cate, due to a late flight and traffic, they had limited time here.  If you missedthe Cate School, they left materials for us. Just stop by the office to pick up moreinformation about this great school.   Several of the schools sent Alum to represent at their tables.  Returning

students?  Renee Serota (Marin Academy) and Cristian Isbrandtsen and Jack Greenberg (SonomaAcademy) did an excellent job sharing their experiences.

  Make­Up Picture DayMake­up picture day is scheduled for November 13th.  Student HandbookUniform code, behavior expectations, general policy...  it's all posted now on our website. Be sure andvisit the MY PRESENTATION tab and click on Student/Parent Handbook. It's a must read!   Save The DateFrom the Desk of Nancy Bei:Friday, December 5th, 2014 is our first annual "CHRISTMAS PARTY ­ IN THE SPIRIT OF GIVING" tobe held at Aventine Restaurant in Glen Ellen. This year all proceeds will be given to the RedwoodEmpire Food Bank. So come celebrate Christmas with friends and at the same time give to a worthycause. Shoe DriveStudent Leadership has decided to extend their shoe drive for FISH.  Shoes are in greatdemand, and our families are doing a great job.  Please bring in your shoes anytime thisweek.  The box is out front! Student NewsDo you have exciting news about our students outside of school?  We would love to feature ourstudent's successes in the ENEWS.  Just send a blurb with picture (if available) to communications

An Elegant October

The new Student Leadership Elective plannedand hosted our first middle school dance of theseason!  With over 100 in attendance, it was agrand success. DJ Dalton returned and thestudents danced the night away while enjoyingsnacks and the themed decorations of silver andgold pumpkins. Special thanks to our chaperonesCarolina Salmonsen, Christine Neles, JoelKuschner, Tracy Walthard and Scott Parker.Thanks to Jamie Mitchell for the photography!

Attendance at An Elegant October was strong,with 92% of our students attending and 100% ofthe 8th grade class!

Need a Tutor?The new peer tutoring list is available at Sonoma Valley High School. The list must be picked up inperson at the College & Career Center.  It provides the contact information and subject specialty for adozen SVHS students who are available for peer tutoring. Costs vary but these juniors and seniors area huge bargain compared to the rates charged by professional tutors. Subject specialities range fromall math levels Algebra through Calculus, Spanish, all Sciences and English.

Kinders, Halloween, and Pumpkins... Oh MY!Tolay Fall Festival By: Lucas Vaio (Kindergartener) We went to the Tolay Fall Festival. There were some bowand arrows at archery and we got to do archery. Then wewent to the nighttime creature barn, there were someboas and some rattlesnakes and we saw a wolverine andturkey vulture. We saw real life scorpions that glow in thedark. We saw the tarantula and other creepy stuff like aWestern Screech Owl. We fed the goats and went in theNative American Village. We ate lunch and saw chickens.WE went in a hay maze and I was the first one to get out.We went on a hayride and got pumpkins. It was reallyfun.

Parents and friends who are updating their personal technologyare invited to share their old tablets and laptops with the school.The school's current iPads are iPad 4's.  Having more of these isalways welcome.  If you have other technology you would like todonate, please let us know what you have, so we can see if wehave the right fit.  Thank you for your help.
