Key BenefitsEfficient Performance Testing through Expansive Test CoverageTest teams must simulate and evaluate an array of applications and user profiles. Silk Performer not only offers test coverage for both web and mobile apps, but also enterprise and virtual desk-top infrastructure environments. Silk Per former 17.0 expands coverage for server-hosted VDI environments to ensure successful roll-outs on any scale.

Validate Adaptability to Real World ConditionsThe only consistent characterization of net-work bandwidth is that it is inconsistent. How well does your application adapt to bandwidth constraints? Silk Performer 17.0 reliably detects video streaming stoppages caused by band-width constraints or server issues.

Create a Seamless Digital ExperienceThe need to optimize the user viewing and inter-action experience on a range of devices drives responsive web design. When ‘content is like water’ performance testing is a challenge. Silk Performer 17.0 helps verify RWD renders and performs well on multiple devices by creating resolution-aware performance tests.

Incorporate Performance Testing without Disrupting DevelopmentContinuous integration requires ongoing per-formance testing. Integrations with leading CI

environments support automatic insertion of performance tests into the development pro-cess. Quickly detect, isolate and resolve the root cause of performance problems and efficiently provide feedback to development teams.

Problem Isolation—Analysis EnhancementsSilk Performer 17.0 continues to build on our industry-leading array of analysis and report-ing capabilities. Enhancements include graphi-cal comparisons of test results, extended Silk Performer Cloudburst coverage, and more.

New FeaturesServer-Hosted Virtual Desktop Infrastructure TestingIn addition to Citrix Receiver, Silk Performer now supports load and performance testing of vir-tual desktop sessions, published through Citrix Desktop Viewer and VMware Horizon View.

HTTP Live Streaming SupportHTTP Live Streaming (HLS) has become the de facto industry standard for adaptive bitrate video streaming. HLS delivers optimized content to the broadest range of devices. Whether embedded in a web page or consumed through a stand-alone video player, Silk Performer automati-cally detects HLS traffic during recording and simulates concurrent video players consuming HLS data during playback. HLS also provides comprehensive quality statistics and metrics

for streams and identifies stoppages caused by bandwidth constraints or server issues.

Responsive Web Design TestingSilk Performer now tests responsive websites. Because these web pages change their lay-out de pending on the viewport width of the user brow ser, testing must validate that the ap plication renders and performs well on mul-tiple devices.

Simulation of mobile devices with v iewport emulation: Select the orientation of a mobile device and specify a browser for recording web applications. Silk Performer emulates the device browser and viewport width to test the correct layout of the responsive web page.

Viewport awareness in TrueLog Explorer: TrueLogs can now store the viewport setting used during the recording or replay sessions. TrueLog Explorer automatically displays the content of these TrueLogs with the stored viewport.

What’s New in Silk Performer 17.0? Micro Focus® Silk Performer™ is our market-leading load and performance testing solution. Silk 17.0 offers significant productivity and usability enhancements to ensure a consistent user experience anytime, anywhere, on any device.

Jenkins PluginEnable continuous performance testing: Use the Jenkins plugin from your CI environment to automatically trigger Silk Performer load tests.

Performance Analysis Enhancements Export charts to Excel: Export Silk

Performer results as Excel documents for further data analysis.

User type comparison report: A new type of report for Performance Explorer. The User Type Comparison Report is now one of three that enable extensive comparisons in Performance Explorer. Select from the Region Comparison Report, Custom Comparison Report—formerly the Cross Load Test Report—and the new User Type Comparison Report.

Results filtering: Filter the tree in Performance Explorer to compare test results more easily, by entering a keyword in the text field above the tree.

Comparing graphs: Use this new feature in Performance Explorer to compare your graphs with measures from all other user types, agents, or regions.

Silk Performer CloudBurst Expanded Coverage CloudBurst now provides a new Asia-

Pacific region: AP—South Korea

Usability Enhancements Advanced request filtering for script

generation: The filtering capabilities for capture files have now been expanded by an advanced request filter. Beyond the domain filter, there is now an option to exclude the requests that do not match that do not match the specified filter criteria.

Cleaner scripts through standard filters and domain blacklist: Web browsers

often communicate with services, either to ensure websites are safe or to track usage statistics. This application-independent traffic can cause overloaded and messy scripts. Silk Performer now automatically filters this traffic to ensure clean, readable scripts.

Technology Updates New TrueLog format: TrueLogs are now

stored as compressed packages following the open document format specification. With the new format, all embedded content including images, videos and screenshots is stored in a separate subfolder within the package. Advanced users now have easier access to the data and the opportunity to process it with proprietary tools.

Java Explorer now supports Apache CXF and Java 8.

Silk Performer now supports Axis 1.6.4x.

The predefined monitors for SQL server in Performance Explorer have been updated.

OpenSSL: This has been upgraded to version 1.0.2g. Serious security flaws in the Secure Sockets Layer version 2 (SSLv2) mean the protocol is considered not secure and should not be used any longer. Support has been removed along with the BDL constant SSL_VERSION_SSL2. Scripts that use this no longer compile.
