Have you ever seen the television show, “Say, ‘Yes’ to the Dress”? It is a show that chronicles a bride’s struggle to find her perfect wedding dress. Honestly, sometimes it is simply a matter of what is clean or can be resurrected from the dirty clothes hamper! Some folks are trendy, which requires them to keep up with the latest fashions. Others are more practical as they piece together a week’s worth of outfits with just a couple pairs of neutral-colored pants and some solid-colored tops. My wardrobe is somewhere in between. Clothing is important. It says something about a person. Think about a wedding, interview, tennis match, or a day on the beach. Each calls for a different type of attire. To show up on the beach in a tuxedo or at a tennis match in a wedding gown would be ridiculous! As believers, God tells us to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. These traits cannot be found in a department store or in the latest fashion magazine. They can only come from the Holy Spirit living in and through us. Each day, as you choose the clothing you will wear, choose also to clothe yourself with godly characteristics that will cause you to shine as a child of the Lord. So, I found “the dress” for my special day, but I have realized that godly characteristics are far more beautiful than any dress, and besides…compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience always fit!! Father God, it is not always easy to be kind or compassionate. Sometimes humility, gentleness, and especially patience are also difficult. Help me to be certain I am fully clothed with these attitudes before I leave home each morning. Amen. Under His Grace, Georgianne

Deep Creek Friends Meeting March, 2012

What to Wear? Have you ever seen the television show, “Say, ‘Yes’ to the Dress”? It is a show that chronicles a bride’s struggle to find her perfect wedding dress. To be completely honest, I’ve only made it through a few episodes. There seems to be quite a few tears, a handful of tantrums, and a ton of drama that surrounds finding the ideal garment for that special day.

I had been pretty cynical about brides putting so much weight on “the dress”. Then, I found myself a “bride to be”...again! I’m not cynical anymore. What to wear on your wedding day is a BIG deal. As I began to look for the perfect garment there were no tears or tantrums but, I quickly found myself searching everywhere for a dress to say, “yes” to.

I think that I give an average amount of time to selecting what I wear each day. As long as I have a clean pair of jeans, then I can put something on that’s at least presentable.

Amen.

Richard Wilcox is pastor of Up River Friends Meeting in Belvidere, NC. He was recognized as a recorded minister at last Yearly Meeting along with Georgianne. He is also a family man with special interest in genealogy, especially concerning his own ancestry. Richard is a dedicated man of God and a speaker you don’t want to miss.

Note from Richard: Dear Deep Creek Friends,

Our new Superintendent Randy Quate preached at Up River’s Renewal/Revival Services just a few weeks ago, but our Elders thought that revival started at Up River a few weeks before Randy arrived, and is still going. The Holy Spirit certainly works outside of calendars and preachers. I believe one of the key ingredients is prayer, and another is desire. Do we desire to be revived? What are we praying for?

I am excited about the opportunity to worship and fellowship with you and share what the Lord is doing in my life. I am praying for your meeting, your ministries, your pastor, and our time together. I would covet your prayers as well. I am still praying about what God wants me to say at Deep Creek, and will be right up to the words coming out of my mouth, but I did want to share with you some of the scriptures that are bouncing around in my soul:

Isaiah 29:13-16; Mark 1:1-15; Isaiah 6:1-8; Luke 15:11-32; Genesis 29

Richard J. Wilcox

DOES GOD EXIST? A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed.

As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said, 'I don't believe that God exists.'

'Why do you say that?' asked the customer. 'Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't

exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there

be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain! I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.'

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and

unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber, 'You know what? Barbers do not exist.' 'How can you say that?' asked the surprised barber. 'I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!' 'No!' the customer exclaimed. 'Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like

that man outside.' 'Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me.' 'Exactly!' affirmed the customer. 'That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look

to Him for help.. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world.'

March 18 – Senior Citizen Appreciation Day Worship and Fellowship Lunch

Bring your basket with your favorite dish as we enjoy a meal together Deep Creek style to honor our seniors.

Does having more birthdays mean

you’re getting older?

Some persons simply refuse to grow old. I like that eighty-year-old man who told me: What’s wrong with being eighty years old? It isn’t how long you’ve been around; it’s what you’ve done while you’ve been around. Sure, I’ve been in the world eighty years. But I don’t have an old philosophy. I do not think old thoughts. I happen to own the business I run. But I can still run it all right. When I find some bright young fellow who is as smart as I am, I’ll step down. Don’t think because I have a game leg that I can’t handle the business. You don’t run a business with your leg but with your head. And my head is okay. I don’t intend ever to get old. I know there will come a time when my obituary will be in the paper, but I will have had the time of my life all my life.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD

George Phillips age 82 of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked 'Is someone in your house?' He said ‘No.’ Then they said 'All patrols were busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available.'

George said, 'Okay'. He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again. 'Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them.' and hung up.

Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George, 'I thought you said that you shot them!'

George said, '.... and I thought you said there was nobody available!' (True Story) Contributed by Bill Terrell

Food for the Hungry

January and February have been very busy months at Yadkin Christian Ministries. Food that has been donated by churches, organizations, and individuals is really appreciated.

“Souper Bowl” Sunday was a huge success. Thank you, Deep Creek Friends, for giving $792.28 and for bringing 294 cans of soup. I hope to have a final total for you in April. Also on Saturday, February 11th, Boy Scouts from all over the county brought food. We are always happy to see them come. We can count on them each year.

Saturday, February 25th, was a great day of volunteering, fellowship, and having fun together. Cathy Shore and her 4-H Club members along with

children and youth from our groups at church sorted all the food that school children had brought during the “Friends Feeding Friends” food drive. Twenty seven young people, adults and two Unifi employees sorted all the food in three hours. We thank each one and especilly thank Unifi for giving us that spacious room for our use all year long.

Suggestions of food for March are boxes of Macaroni and Cheese and canned pasta such as Ravioli, etc. Also, we still need paper bags. Thanks for all your help.

On February 25th, the Twenty nine adults and youth sorted food for several hours. The food was collected from a food drive in the elementary schools. This project was a great way to serve our local food distribution ministry and those in need in Yadkin County. Many thanks to the 4-H and Susan Steelman for letting us be a part of this outreach. THE POWER OF A ROAST BEEF SANDWICH AND A CUP OF COFFEE

Good morning said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on the ground.

The man slowly looked up. This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat

was new. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life. His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many

others had done before. "Leave me alone," he growled... To his amazement, the woman continued standing. She was smiling -- her

even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. "Are you hungry?" she asked. "No," he answered sarcastically. "I've just come from dining with the

president. Now go away." The woman's smile became even broader. Suddenly the man felt a gentle

hand under his arm. "What are you doing, lady?" the man asked angrily. "I said to leave me

alone. Just then a policeman came up. "Is there any problem, ma'am?" he

asked. "No problem here, officer," the woman answered. "I'm just trying to get

this man to his feet. Will you help me?" The officer scratched his head. "That's old Jack. He's been a fixture

around here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?" "See that cafeteria over there?" she asked. "I'm going to get him

something to eat and get him out of the cold for awhile." Are you crazy, lady?" the homeless man resisted. "I don't want to go in

there!" Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up. "Let me go, officer. I didn't do anything."

"This is a good deal for you, Jack" the officer answered. "Don't blow it." Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got

Jack into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch bunch had not yet arrived.

The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by his table. "What's going on here, officer?" he asked. "What is all this, is this man in trouble?"

"This lady brought this man in here to be fed," the policeman answered. "Not in here!" the manager replied angrily. "Having a person like that

here is bad for business." Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. "See, lady. I told you so. Now if you'll

let me go. I didn't want to come here in the first place." The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled... "Sir, are you

familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?" "Of course I am," the manager answered impatiently. "They hold their

weekly meetings in one of my banquet rooms." "And do you make a goodly amount of money providing food at these

weekly meetings?" "What business is that of yours?" “I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company." "Oh." The woman smiled again. "I thought that might make a difference." She

glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. "Would you like to join us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?"

"No thanks, ma'am," the officer replied. "I'm on duty."

"Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?" "Yes, mam. That would be very nice." The cafeteria manager turned on his heel, "I'll get your coffee for you

right away, officer." The officer watched him walk away. "You certainly put him in his place,"

he said. "That was not my intent. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this." She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest. She

stared at him intently. "Jack, do you remember me?" Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes. "I think so -- I

mean you do look familiar." "I'm a little older perhaps," she said. "Maybe I've even filled out more

than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold and hungry."

"Ma'am?" the officer said questioningly. He couldn't believe that such a magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry.

"I was just out of college," the woman began. "I had come to the city looking for a job, but I couldn't find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in on the off chance that I could get something to eat."

Jack lit up with a smile. "Now I remember," he said. "I was behind the serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said that it was against company policy."

"I know", the woman continued. "Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to a corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble. Then, when I looked over and saw you put the price of my food in the cash register, I knew then that everything would be all right."

"So you started your own business?" Old Jack said. "I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I

started my own business that, with the help of God, prospered." She opened her purse and pulled out a business card. "When you are finished here, I want you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons. He's the personnel director of my company. I'll go talk to him now and I'm certain he'll find something for you to do around the office." She smiled. "I think he might even find the funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get on your feet. If you ever need anything, my door is always opened to you."

There were tears in the old man's eyes. "How can I ever thank you?" he said.

"Don't thank me," the woman answered. "To God goes the glory. Thank Jesus... He led me to you."

Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before going their separate ways.

"Thank you for all your help, officer," she said. "On the contrary, Ms. Eddy," he answered. "Thank you. I saw a miracle

today, something that I will never forget. And...And thank you for the coffee." Contributed by Brenda Adams

The FOJ had an awesome study about friendship and love from the book of Ruth. We learned how important it is to share God’s love with others as we made and filled bags for New Horizon Adult Day Services. We ended the evening with a pizza party and exchanged valentines with our friends.

On February 14th, Donna Raines and I delivered the bags to New Horizon and spent some time with the people there. They were very appreciative for the gifts and as always were a true blessing to me! I always feel very blessed when I leave their presence. Angie

Thanks to everyone who donated items for the bags and Heart Pockets for New Horizons, Special thanks to Anne & Larry for the donation of so many items and to Anne for making all the Pockets for us!!

Blessings

from Jared

February has been a busy month for the DOGS & Youth groups at Deep Creek. The Youth began the month by attending Winterjam, a huge contemporary Christian concert in Greensboro. The event featured bands such as Skillet, Newsong, Building 429, For

King and Country, and several others. We enjoyed worshipping with other youth groups and individuals from all over the triad. The DOGS and Youth came over to the parsonage for a Super Bowl party on February 5th. We packed in the house and enjoyed the fellowship. Some folks spent the night glued to every play, rooting for their team, while others tried their hand at Just Dance and other games on the Wii. We also enjoyed a variety of snacks. I want to extend a big thank you for all those folks who sent food!

On February 18th, the Youth traveled to Winterplace Ski Resort in West Virginia for a day of skiing. We had warmer than normal conditions, but the snow was still great for skiing. We spent the day on the slopes and returned home ready for some rest.

Both groups had their regular meeting on the 12th of the month. The continued their study of the DOGSbooks of the Bible, looking more in depth at the first five books or “the books of law.” We talked about rules/laws and looked at the rules that God has for us. Our study focused on the 10 Commandments. We talked about what happens when we break God’s laws. We related this back to love and Valentine’s Day, explaining that Christ came to save us from sin (also known as breaking God’s laws) because God loved us so much that he gave his only begotten Son…(John 3:16). We also shared in some games that focused heavily on “rules.” The kids exchanged Valentines and showed their love for one another.

The Youth also looked at rules and how they affect our everyday lives. We discussed God’s rules for us and focused on the 10 Commandments as well. At the end of our lesson, we had a special worship time together.

For our February 26th meetings, we looked at the story of Rahab and the spies. We observed how God kept his promise to deliver the land to the Israelites, God can use anyone and God gives us a new start. Rahab was a very unlikely candidate to aid in God's plan for Joshua and the Israelites. God did use Rahab and provided her a new start in life. We observed that God can use us for his plan and can offer us a new start also.

I continue to be blessed in all the things that God is doing at Deep Creek! I look forward to the month ahead and all that God has in store for the Youth and Dogs!

Bill Terrell Has new Profession As some of you are aware, Bill Terrell worked for ten years as an archaeologist at Wake Forest University, but lost that employment when the national economy crashed a few years ago.

While unemployed for over a year, Bill took online courses to retrain in the field of medical ultrasound. In early February, he successfully passed the second of two examinations to become credentialed as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), which is a specialty in performing ultrasound on blood vessels. He will continue to work for Cornerstone Healthcare in High Point, where he has worked in an ultrasound internship position for the past two years. Congratulations Bill! Bill will not tell you unless you ask, but he studied very hard and made a near perfect score on the two lengthy exams that were required.

completed. Only one student per classroom from grades 3-6 was chosen. So it was an honor to be selected to participate in this event. The students spent the afternoon with the Mad Science Team from Winston-Salem doing different activities and answering questions. At the end of the afternoon, parents were invited to join in for a recognition time for the students. Certificates were presented by the team leader and Superintendent, Dr. Hobbs. Jacob was presented a certificate for his projects on “waves”. Jacob enjoys school, but especially enjoys studies in Science and History.

The kids that live here attend our middle and high schools, they know our kids, and some of them even work in our community. Like all kids they are looking for someone willing to listen and someone who will provide advice as they begin to face the transition to young adulthood. The Children's Center is looking for members of the community who are willing to volunteer their time to advise at-risk teens. The Mentor training session will guide volunteers through the program procedures.” Dinner is provided.

March 20 – First Day of Spring - On the first day of spring—the vernal equinox—day and night are each approximately 12 hours long (with the actual time of equal day and night, in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring a few days before the vernal equinox). The Sun crosses the celestial equator going northward; it rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west.

He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. Daniel 2:21
