What Staff Developers Say About “Lead Like the Legends” Wow! The presentation was just fabulous! Several staff members commented on how much they enjoyed it. You definitely modeled “lead with imagination” and “train to grow.” Various staff members possess at least one of the leadership qualities you shared, but I think your presentation had everyone personally reflecting on how many of the qualities we possess and demonstrate. It will be interesting to see how many more leadership qualities we begin to see additional people demonstrating around the school. Thank you so much for taking time from your busy schedule to share your talents and insights!! Patricia Calvin, NBCT, Staff Development Teacher, Woodfield E. S. We recently had the pleasure of inviting Dr. David I. Steinberg, to a Potomac Elementary Staff meeting. Dr. Steinberg has been a teacher and principal. Dr. Steinberg presented a revue of songs by different composers, performers, and musicians. After each song was presented, the staff was treated to a short explanation of the origin of the song, a little biographical information about the famous musician or performer, and a leadership lesson showcased by the song or artist. Dr. Steinberg then related that

What Staff Developers Say About “Lead Like the Legends”

Wow!

Dr. Steinberg then related that leadership characteristic to a personal experience he had experienced in his career.

We talked about the power of being sincere and being optimistic, as fashioned in the songs, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Oh, What A Beautiful Morning.” Upon hearing Ray Charles’ rendition of “Georgia, On My Mind” we talked about the perseverance Ray Charles demonstrated in his life, and we made a connection to educators who should accept no limits, by teaching to each student’s strength. We listened to “A Little Help From My Friends” by the Beatles, and discussed the great value in teamwork and collaboration. The song, “What a Wonderful World”, performed by Louie Armstrong, highlighted how important it is for educators to be authentic and be themselves.

Our staff thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and the opportunity to think about the leadership qualities we possess and want to expand.
