Many times, the word of God comes to us in parables and proverbs so that the understanding does not flow automatically. However, too many people don't bother to take necessary steps to ensure that they understand the mind of God.

"And his disciples asked him, saying, what might this parable be?

And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables..."

(Luke 8:9-10).

Here, Jesus told a parable for which the disciples required further clarification. As soon as they had the opportunity, they asked Jesus to explain the parable.

As a preface to His explanations, Jesus told them that they were entitled to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. However, they could only access that right or entitlement by asking questions. If the disciples did not ask relevant questions, they would have remained without any understanding of those things needed for their spiritual edification and blessing.

Asking the right questions - that is what we don't do in this generation. The pastor comes on stage and vibrates on like a radio that needs no response from the listeners. At the end of the message, everyone goes back home, hardly any better in understanding (or more confused) than when they came. If believers ask questions from their pastors, many will grow in understanding and attain to spiritual maturity faster. The church in Berea was commended as being noble because they asked questions from their pastors to enhance their understanding of the word of God.

But beyond that, I think when Christians start asking our leaders questions like the disciples asked Jesus, our leaders will become more responsible and accountable. They will be more careful about the messages they give to their congregation, knowing that people will ask questions. And, by the way, if you have a pastor from whom you could not ask questions, better run away from him. A pastor that is bigger than Jesus will only ruin you.
