What is a food bank?
A food bank is a place which stocks food, typically basic items and non-perishable items, that are then supplied
free of charge to people and families in need.
THE FACTS- 13 million people live below the poverty line
in the UK.- Food Banks are a way of supporting families who may be struggling to feed themselves due
to various reasons such as loss of job, illness and family breakdown.
- Almost one million people in the UK are using food banks.
- People and families that need to use food banks has risen 19% from the last year and is
rising as we speak.
What could we do to help?
Food Costume Mufti DayTo help raise awareness and donate to this
important issue School Councillors have come up with a special day.
On Friday 10th July 2015, children at Alexandra Primary School are allowed to dress up as their favourite food or
in mufti if you donate just one can of food.
- There will be a prize for the most creative costume!
What will you dress up as?
Food Challenge CompetitionAlso on this day, you will also be able to get creative with
your tins!
We will be holding a competition for the class who can make the most creative structure using the items they
have brought it.
The winning class will win a special prize at the end of the day.

Tinned vegetables; soup; dessert; rice pudding; meat; fish; and fruit. Breakfast cereal; long life
milk; tea bags; instant coffee; long life fruit juice & squash; packets of biscuits; rice; jars of pasta sauce; cooking oil; and granulated sugar.
Other itemsShampoo & conditioner; shower gel; shaving
foam; toothpaste for adults and children.
