JENNY Via Clark - You [can] mention that my father worked at the college from 1969-2003 and retired as Dean. He was a faculty member for the first 13 years. I was working on planning an event for an alumni reunion of his program and wanted to get copies of some photographs and articles, etc.. When I went by the college, all of the historical material (college yearbooks, video footage, scrapbooks, photos, publications, catalogs, etc. that were stored in a room in the library had been thrown away. This includes local family history materials as well as manuscripts and first editions of North Carolina writers.

Presentation Notes
Peggy Higgins - A-B Tech has a variety of archive materials; from old photos taken of the historical buildings on campus to its college catalogs and yearbooks, and they are housed in an equal variety of locations, from the movable storage shelving behind our Circulation Desk to archival boxes in the Systems/Access Services Librarian’s office. Thanks to DigitalNC, we also have an online archive presence, which currently consists of our college yearbooks.

Caldwell Community College - Alison Beard

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Alison Beard - We are fortunate that our Marketing Dept saved a lot of archival material, and that much of it was kept together chronologically. Unfortunately, we have lots and lots (and lots) of material to sift through, preserve, scan, organize, etc. Most of it has been stored for decades in random binders, manila folders, mailing envelopes and boxes (see pictures). Labels are handwritten, incomplete or missing altogether (see pictures). And as I mentioned at our organizational meeting, our library staff doesn't have archival training, so we'd be thrilled with a set of best practices or any guidelines for preserving these materials.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Erin The CPCC archive contains roughly 1,500 square feet of processed and unprocessed collections and is the product of R.V. Mason - the colleges first historian. Images from left (clockwise) 1. Reading Room; 2. (Center) Unprocessed negatives; 3. Stack row 1 (contains processed and unprocessed collections); 4. Supply shelf; 5. Binders of newsclippings. This space spans the size of roughly two classrooms and is not climate controlled but we have temperature and humidity readers installed to track changes. The building was completed in 1971 and is one of the last remaining original buildings on the Central Campus. We are slated to have a new building by the year 2020. Plans for a new archive have been drafted and will be submitted to the engineer/facilities team when the time comes.

Presentation Notes
Julie Humphrey - Here are a few images from Durham Technical Community College. Our archives are held in a small room in the library. Occasionally our library's director will work down there to file documents and materials. She will also dig around to locate information if the administration asks her to find something.

Presentation Notes
MaryAnne Caudle - We don’t really have a college archives here at Martin Community College. We have a few scrapbooks in the library, but there are other scrapbooks around campus, as well as catalogs and other items stashed in people’s offices and file cabinets. I have been piling up the odd old document, as I come across them, as well as keeping copies of the current newsletter, which has been published for about the past year or so. This is a pathetic and embarrassing situation, which is of great concern to me, but we only have two staff people in the library, so it’s been difficult for us to run the desk, do collection development, cataloging, processing, and instruction, as well as start an archives. Robert James -

Randolph Community College - Jenny Thomas

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Jenny RCC’s Archives are kept in a warehouse called Building 13. It is mostly used as storage for old furniture and items headed to auction. Basically, where unwanted things go to die. Two small rooms where given as Archive space after the previous location was repurposed for our Distance Education department. The rooms do have HVAC and a humidifier, but with little time to visit, we often find the settings are off and mold has grown. Items are often left in the rooms without notification or information on who/what/when/where etc.
