corporate brochure. The story of WH Scott Lifting is one of challenges, pioneering, and a focus on the future. We have a solid history in the heavy lifting industry fields which can be traced back to a small warehouse in 1897 Belfast, where the founders started the ground breaking work for one of the modern lifting equipment service engineering companies in the world.

industries with several sections of sales and service focusing on six divisions: Shipbuilding, Offshore & Engineering, Industrial Plant & Engineering, Fishing and Agriculture, Power Generation, and Construction.We believe that our success is largely due to our company’s ethos of over one hundred years."

We have expanded our manufacturing and service departments to offer both in house
and onsite service, we have also began to increase our wire rope division with new splicing, testing and fusing machines, and documentation control. Further acquisitions will be developed over the next couple of years in order to expand our chosen business areas.

History
• Was originally established in Ann Street Belfast and dealt in boilers and general engineering.• The third generation of WH Scott took over in 1969 and moved into the lifting equipment industry.• We have traded with companies such as BP Oil (where we worked on the very first floating oil production storage vessel – SWOPS), Harland and Wolff, Shell, Caterpillar and Boeing (where we made many lifting frames and jigs that were exported to Boeing via Shorts Brothers PLC).• First in Ireland (2nd in UK) to install a CVT - Computerised Test Machine. • WH Scott was founded in 1897 and opened its doors in Ireland September 2011.• Promoters are all ex senior executives from this industry with extensive sales and business experience.• Company will manufacture and sell a range of industrial lifting equipment and provide after sales technical services initially to the whole Europe.• Key customer segments: • Oil/Fishing and heavy industrial sectors • 90% BTB with 10% direct sales to clients. • 80% of our business will be export from our strategically located headquarters.

Using • Always plan the lift carefully before proceeding with the task. • Always check that the length and WLL appear on the slings label and suits the purpose of the intended lift. • Inspect sling for damage and defects before use. • Never use a damaged or defective sling. • Never overload! • Ensure the load is lifted vertically and centred above the point of gravity. • When using the same sling on several legs/lifts, you must take into account the lifting angles and reduce the safe working load. • Do not tie knots in slings to shorten or to join them. • Never lift with twisted or intertwined slings. • Place the bearing seams and joints between the hook and the load. • Protect the sling from sharp edges with edge protection or protective sleeves. • Avoid shock loading and snatch lifting. • Do not pull the sling, with or without load, on the ground. • Keep polyester slings away from alkalis (such as ammonia and caustic soda). If you are unsure exposure to chemicals, check with your supplier. • Do not use polyester slings at temperatures above +100 ° C. • Inspect slings after use and remove from service if visible damage is detected. • Do not stand under suspended loads or between cargo and other objects around them, to avoid being injured from falling cargo while waiting. • To avoid injury, keep hands and body parts away from the sling when lifting.

Maintaining• Store the equipment in a dry place.• Make sure the seams and markings are intact.• The product can be cleaned by washing in a petroleum-based detergent and rinsing in water.• Roundsling with damaged sleeving, allowing debris to enter, should be discarded.• Roundsling with broken yarn as a result of damaged sleeving must be discarded.• Roundsling must be inspected for regular knots and irregularities, which indicates broken yarn, discard if found.• Discard if serious injury has occurred due to friction or wear.• Discard when edge wear damage exceeds 5% of its width.• Repair or discard when the eye sleeving is noticeably worn.• Slings shall be regularly checked for safety issues above. Records of inspections must be maintained.

The WH Scott Load binders are designed with an ergonomic, easy-to-use handle for simple, single-hand use, and are manufactured from drop forged or cast steel. Equipped with standard lashing chain and eye type grab hooks, which has an improved version of these hooks to reduce chain wear substantially. This type of Load binder is designed to meet
requirements of standard EN12195-3.Each handle carries the following markings:- Chain diameter, for which the Load binders is suitable;- Manufacturer’s symbol (vbs);- Not for lifting or hoisting applications;- Lashing capacity;- Minimum breaking load.

General Hardware
General HardwareThimbles can be cold-rolled, hot-rolled or die-cast, depending on the specific use of the thimbles.
The Wire rope clips are drop forged and have a bridge with grooves to fasten the wire rope properly in the clip; the DIN wire rope clips have a malleable base, without grooves.
Turnbuckles are manufactured to ASTM F1145-92, formerly U.S. Fed. Spec.FF-T-791, and have a safety factor of 5 to 1. The Turnbuckles are drop forged and can be equipped with the following end fittings: - Eye/eye, hook/hook, hook/eye, jaw/jaw and jaw/eye. All parts are interchangeable, locking nuts are supplied with all sizes.
The forged jaw ends are fitted with bolts and nuts on sizes 3/8” up to and including 5/8”, sizes ¾” up to and including 2 ¾” are equipped with pins and cotters.Rigging screws generally to DIN 1480 are available with welding ends and in:- Hook/eye, eye/eye, hook/hook and jaw/jaw combinations.
Closed body rigging screws are available in: - Jaw/jaw, jaw/eye and eye/eye combinations.
The eye bolts and eye nuts are manufactured from C15 or C15E steel, drop forged and with metric thread.
Each eye bolt and eye nut is individually stamped with:
- Working Load Limit valid for in-line pull;- Thread diameter;- Material identification symbol C15 or C15E;- Manufacturer’s symbol;- CE.
Plate lifting clamp have been developed in four different types:
• Type E for lifting and vertical movement of steel plates• Type EH for horizontal movement of steel plates• Type EU a universal type for movement in all directions• Type ESV for movement of steel beams.
Type E, EH and EU are also available as ES, EHS and EUS versions, which means that these versions have an increased opening.
All types of lifting clamps carry the following markings:
• Working Load Limit;• Manufacturer’s identification symbol (VBS);• Traceability code;• Jaw opening;• CE;• Serial number.
Blocks are with their specific designs fit to suit a particular purpose. Some types are equipped with bronze bushes while other types have ball bearings depending on frequency of use and line speed.
Snatch blocks allow the wire rope to be attached easily by opening up the block instead of threading the wire rope through the block.
All types carry the following markings:
• Working Load Limit;• Manufacturer’s identification symbol (UBS);• Traceability code;• CE.
Stainless steel products supplied by WH Scott are all manufactured from stainless steel quality AISI 316.

Application:Grade 8 lifting fittings offer a lifting capacity matching grade 8 chain.
Range:WH Scott Lifting offers a wide range of grade 8 items in order to assemble a complete sling from the top master link to the hooks. The range extends from 6 mm to 32 mm (1/4” to 1 1/4”).
Design:Grade 8 components supplied by WH Scott Lifting are all manufactured from alloy steel and generally drop forged. These components are generally stamped with following markings: • Traceability code: e.g. Z, pertaining to a particular batch• Steel grade: 8• CE conformity code: CE, Conformity European indicating that the product is suitable for lifting purposes• Item code: e.g. MP• Chain diameter in mm and/or inch: e.g. 13 and/or 1/2”• Manufacturer’s identification symbol

General Grade 10
Application:Grade 10 offers a lifting capacity which is 25 % greater than the grade 8, for a comparable chain size. For many applications a smaller chain size can be chosen. This results in lighter, easier to handle chain slings.
Range:WH Scott offers a wide range of grade 10 items in order to assemble a complete sling from the top master link to the hooks. The range extends from 6 mm up to 16 mm. (7/32” up to 5/8”).
Design:Grade 10 items supplied by WH Scott are all manufactured from alloy steel. All grade 10 items have an equivalent in a grade 8 quality.
These components are generally stamped with following markings: • Traceability code: e.g. Z, pertaining to a particular batch • Steel grade: 8 • CE conformity code: CE, conformity European indicating that the product is for lifting purposes • Item code: e.g. UMP • Chain diameter in mm and/or inch: e.g. 13 and/or 1/2” • Manufacturer’s identification symbol

Application: In circumstances where corrosion can cause problems, the use of stainless steel products is recommended.
Range: WH Scott offers a wide range of stainless steel items in order to assemble a complete sling from the top master link to the hooks. The range extends from up to 6 mm to 13 mm (7/32” to 1/2”). Design: Items supplied by WH Scott are all manufactured from stainless steel quality AISI 316 or 316l. All stainless steel items have an equivalent in a grade 8 quality. The master links, eye hooks and eye nuts have a flat part to make the assembly with the omega link (cOI) easier. These components are generally stamped with following marks: • Manufacturer’s identification symbol • Traceability code: e.g. Z, pertaining to a particular batch • CE conformity code: CE, conformity European indicating that the product is suitable for lifting purposes. • Item code: e.g. cOI •Chain diameter in mm and/or inch: e.g. 13 and/or 1/2” Finish: Stainless steel items are generally polished.

Electric Chain Hoist
Friction torque limiter. It guarantees use of the hoist without overload. Lifting hook. Rotating hook made with special steel, conforming to DIN standards, with a safety latch. Limit switch. Electric limit switch for upper and lower limits, providing save operation of the hoist (provided as a standard feature). Push button box. Very low voltagecommand, 48 Volts, emergencystop (large button).
Disk brake. Electro-magnetic, brake linings tested for longevity of the hoist within its use group.
Load limiter. As a standard, all EUROCHAIN VLs are equipped with a torque limiter (Safety feature to prevent hoist) For greater longevity.
Treated surface. Two-component epoxy pain with 80 microns for better protection against corrosive agents
Push button box. Water-proof, IP 65 protection, with 2, 4 or 6 buttons.
Electrical cubicle. Located on the side of the hoist, easy to access.

Improved hoist compactness. Low noise level while in use thanks to pinions lubricated with plenty of grease and its rectified and treated straight teeth.
Made with moulded injected aluminium, making the hoist lighter, the fins on the motor section provide good thermal exchange. The chassis is painted with one Coat of 2-component epoxy paint with 80 microns that is highly resistant to corrosive agents.

Article L.233-5 of Law No.91-1414 introduced this directive in the form of three decrees: 92-765, 92-766 and 92-768.These decree:• The marketing of PPE.• The definition of PPE: by PPE we refer to any device or means designed to be carried or held by a person for the purpose of protecting them against risks that are harmful to their health and safety.• Conformity between the member States and unrestricted inter-community circulation• The design varies in accordance with three levels of risk:• Minor risk,
• Risk of serious bodily injury,• Risk of death.• Included, for example, in the list of risks that could cause death are:- the PPE fall prevention devicesThe technical rules and conformity certification procedures applicable to PPE relating to risk of death.• The scope of the type of CE examinations is established by approved bodies that are State registered andrecommended to the Commission.• The manufacturer is obliged (appendix to the Directive) to establish a user manual that specially includes instructions on storage and maintenance.
Directive 89/656/CEE
The setting up of European Labour Laws places a certain number of obligations on the chief executives of companies that have to be respected in relation to the provision, the availability and the maintenance of P.P.E in terms of their employees.Various texts, among which are Decrees No. 65-41 of 11/01/93 and 93-41 of 11/06/93, cover the conditions for recourse to PPE and their use .The main provisions concern the following obligations:• To make freely available on a personal basis the appropriate PPE required for the work to be carried out.• Check that the correct PPE have been selected following an analysis of their capability and the risks involved• Offered by the P.P.E.• Check that the PPE is used correctly• Check the conformity of the PPE provided• Keep the people entrusted with PPE implementation and maintenance informed. Lay down the conditions for providing, using, maintenance of PPE. Usage instructions are laid down by in-house recommendations or rules. The instructions must be observed by the user who, in the event of refusal, accepts full legal responsibility.• Ensure correct operation and a satisfactory level of
hygiene by carrying out the maintenance, repairand replacement appropriate to the PPE.N.B: For equipment used as protection against high level falls, these should been subject to a general, periodic inspection within 12 months after their use. This inspection should be performed by a qualified person, whether or not a member of the establishment concerned, who has been approved by the chief executive of the company. The results of this inspection should be recorded in the safety register and retained fora period of 5 years. STANDARDS57• This register should be kept constantly up to date and be available for inspection by the WorksInspectorate and CHSCT.It should contain the nature of the equipment, the yearly inspection results, repairs and modificationupdates of P.P.E used as protection against high level falls.• Notify users of the risks the PPE is used to protect them against, conditions of use, PPE recommendations and instructions and when they should be made available.• Train users in wearing the P.P.E . This training should be renewed whenever necessary so that the P.P.E is used in compliance with its usage instructions.

P.P.E against high level falls
• Definition of a P.P.E against high level falls. EN363• The present Standard lays down the terminology and the requirements relating to fall break systemsused as individual protection equipment against high level falls. In addition, this Standard describesby means of an example, the manner in which the components or the assemblies of components canbe linked to a fall break system. These examples should enable the purchaser or the user to correctlyassemble all the components making up a fall break system.• NB: a fall break system does not include anchoring points other than the appropriate anchoring points, such as those specified in the EN795 Standard, and which are indispensable for all fall break systems.
