ing caught something. He took a group of us up to a few of the ponds up at 33 Mile.

When I landed that little rainbow, I was so excited that I squealed like the girl I am! Not only that, but I dropped the poor thing three times before I got a good hold on it. Then, in all of the excitement, I figured I should clean it off for the picture, sonaturally I headed for the lake. Joe hurriedly reminded me that this plan might not be well thought out . I had the whole crew doubled over laughing. Needless to say, I was very excited about that first fish! I was hooked (sorry, I couldn’t resist)!

I guess the moral of my little walk through time is this: try to remember that first fish, or that big lunker, fighting on the line. These memories are what bring us together once a month. Sure it’s the awesome trophy fish you catch every now and then, but really its just getting out and doing what we love. Leave the humdrum and relax on the river.

Please help us get the word out for our upcoming annual banquet, April 6, at the Ramada.

Tickets are on sale at either of the local fly shops. The door prizes, auction items and raffle items are starting to stack up and there are some great things this year. We would love to sell all 160 tickets this year.

We still need a volunteer to learn the ways of “The Backcast.” Please consider helping as it is the way we get all the important brags, education, and information out to the rest of the club. If you are interested give me a shout.

Last but not least, I would like to say thank you to Will Waterbury for giving the club so much of his time over the last couple years. I know I have enjoyed it.

First and foremost, I would like to thank you all for the encouragement I have already received regarding my new po-sition as club president. I am humbled by the faith members have in me.

Having been a member for only a year, I am sure you can imagine my surprise at this election. All in all, I look forward to the opportunity to represent and guide the Wyoming Fly-casters Club in the coming months.

Winter is coming to a close and spring is slowly sliding in. I want to encourage all of you to get outside and view all the new life emerging all around us. Sometimes it is difficult to find the time, and we have excuses left and right, but isn’t this the time of year when we feel most alive?

I remember a year ago, I landed my first fish on a fly rod right around this time of year. Of course it was a “Fishing With Joe” trip, and he wasn’t going to let me go home without hav-

Mission Statement:The mission of the Wyoming Fly Casters is to promote and enhance the sport of fly fishing and the conservation of fish and their habitat.

Description:The Wyoming Fly Casters club was formed in 1974. The membership currently consists of approximately 160 members. The WFC was orga-nized by a group of dedicated fly fishermen and since the club’s inception the Wyoming Fly Casters have strived to further the sport of fly fishing through conservation and education.

Conservation of our water resources is one of our primary goals and in cooperation with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department we have and will continue to carry out worthwhile projects for the benefit of Wyoming fisheries. In addition to conserving Wyoming’s water resources we encour-age conserving the fish themselves. A fish safely released today will live to give sport to others.

The Backcast is the monthly newsletter of the Wyoming Fly Casters, an affiliate club of the Wyoming Council of Trout Unlimited, the Na-ture Conservancy and the Federation of Fly Fish-ers. Editorial content does not necessarily reflect the views of the officers, board or members of the Wyoming Fly Casters.

The Backcast is available either in electronic format or through USPS snail mail. To receive each newsletter through a monthly e-mail, you must be able to open .pdf (Adobe Acrobat, a software program available free of charge) docu-ments. Usually, each issue is roughly 1 MB in size, some are larger.

Your e-mail provider may have limits on the size of attachments.

In order to be added to the e-mail list, send a request to marketingmavenaha@ gmail.com. In addition to receiving each issue of the news-letter earlier than your hard copy peers, e-mail subscribers are able to print each copy in vibrant color -- an added plus if the issue is rich in color photographs.

By sub- scribing electronically, you also save the club roughly $17.40 a year in printing and post-age expenses.

The WFC Spring Banquet is not to be missed! In early spring, when the ice just starts to melt at Pathfinder, WFC member volunteers meet ot begin planning for the Spring Banquet.

This is a wonderful event for WFC members, family, friends and anyone else who has an ap-preciation for fly fishing, comrad-ery and having fun.

If you’ve attended before, you are probably familiar with how the evening unfolds. If this is the first time you’ll be attending, here is a bit of what the evening will be about.

The evening will begin at check in. You’ll be greeted by a member who will take your banquet ticket stubb and enter it into the door-prize drawing. This year door prizes include a guided fly fishing trip, giftcards and other items your friends would love to own. Then there’s the WFC Bucket list... not what you’re think-ing. You purchase inexpensive (cheap) tickets and throw them into whichever bucket you like. Each bucket sits adjacent to what you’d be winning - if your ticket is drawn. There are some “gotta haves” like; fishing equip-ment and clothing, gift cards, fly fishing trips, therapeutic appoint-ments and other things that will warm the heart.

Once you’ve thrown your tick-ets in your buckets of choice, you won’t want to miss the bar. It’s

a cash bar that is staffed by some great bartenders. They’ve always been kept very busy at past WFC banquets (I’m shocked) and no doubt they’ll be happy to continue the tradition.

Of course standing in line at the bar gives everyone the chance to talk about their last big catch. So whether it’s a big brown trout, wife, husband, girlfriend or boy-friend ... the story will entertain.

Then just when you’ve caught up on the latest scoop and wetted your appetite, it’s dinner time!

The food at all past WFC ban-quets has been outstanding, thanks to the chefs at the Ramada Inn. This year’s event will offer carved roast beef, maple glazed pork loin, vegetables, cheeses, breads and desserts. The evening’s MC will be Will Waterbury, WFC former president. As MC he’ll be chairing the eve-ning and introducing what every-one will be waiting for... the Live and Silent Auction. That’s where auctioneer, John Japp will take the lead. This is your chance to get in on some great buys not available anywhere else. ie: fly- fishing outings, gear, clothing, and artwork.

Every year fly-tying mem-bers work together to create the group fly plate. Now if you haven’t heard what this is, it’s a framed and matted art piece containing approximately 15 - 20 fly’s. The fly’s are various types, sizes and colors. Mat and frame selection is critical to the success of the piece. It is these elements that balance overall color and composition.

Now if you’re thinking that this is something thrown togeth-er, nothing could be further from the truth. It’s an art form handed down through generations and these, my friends, are simply gorgeous. You won’t wanna miss them. So if you’d like enjoy the fun, you still have a chance to pur-chase a ticket.

WFC’s new president, Kelly Kukes will be on location at the Sportman’s Warehouse on 2nd Avenue at 10:00 am this Satur-day, March 30th.

Other WFC members will be joining her throughout the after-noon. Stop by, buy a ticket, take a look at a few pieces of artwork say hello to Kelly.

She’s a great addition to the WFC family. Tickets are also available at the Ugly Bug Fly Shop $25.00 each.

Secretary’s Report

March 20, 2013 Call to Order: 7:09 PM

Members Present: Will Waterbury, Matt Stanton, Lee Tschetter, Casey Leary, Scott Novotny, Joe Meyer, Bob Fisch-er, George Axlund, Spencer Amend, Alex Rose.

Excused: Chris McAtee, Jim Johnson

Will Waterbury welcomed and introduced the incoming board members.

Secretary’s Report: Lee Tschetter made a motion to approve the secretary’s report, motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: Matt Stanton presented his treasurer’s report. Spencer Amend made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report, motion carried. Matt reported the FFF is requesting their affiliate member fees, approximately $343. We again discussed the benefits of being an affiliate member of FFF. Scott Novotny made a motion to drop our affiliate membership with FFF and was seconded. Motion opposed. Lee Tschetter will investigate the benefits of being an affiliate member of FFF and report back to the board. Matt reported he paid the annual dues to the Platte River Parkway Trust of $600. Matt reported the average cost of printing and mailing a newsletter is $2.11, with approximately 32 copies mailed each month. He mentioned the cost depends on the size of the Backcast.

Matt will file tax forms for WFC and TU. He will file TU tax forms at the end of the year to close the relationship with TU. Matt canceled the credit card processor due to the cost and the WFC will use a smart phone gadget for WFC transactions, at a cost of 2.75% per transaction.

Conservation Report: None

Old Business: Will Waterbury reported the April Meeting will be Zach Walker of WGFD speaking about herpetolo-gy. The May speaker will be Travis Neebling of WGFD. Scott Novotny continues updating the website and had no additional news regarding Kids Fishing Day.

New Business: Peg Novotny will continue publishing the Backcast for a few more months, however it will not be as extensive as prior issues, approximately 4 pages. Discussion was held regarding how to continue the Backcast. Derrick Dietz reported Healing Waters had 6 people attend a casting class and interest is generating in Healing Waters. He would like a trip for his members to attend. Any member can be the streamkeeper of an outing. Joe Meyer needs WFC application forms. At the Cabin Fever Clinic Bill Mixer reported the fly lines on the club reels needed replaced. Alex Rose made a motion to purchase fly lines for the club reels, amended to include line cleaning equipment, motion carried. Alex Rose reported he visited Herb Waterman at Life Care Center. He was wearing his Wyoming Fly Casters Sweater and enjoyed the visit. Members are encouraged to visit Herb as he likes the company. Lee Tschetter reported the Natrona County Public Library has many books that the WFC donated and encouraged their use. The Board thanked Will Waterbury, Casey Leary, Matt Stanton, and Scott Novotny for their services. A thank you also goes to Alex Rose for his services.
