    One Year Ago:

The returningNate Dooley destroyed newcomerRyan Dangerfield (formerly Ryan Aurora), making

his debut appearance on an EPW supercard atKristmas Kaos 2. Dangerfield got a bare minimumof offence in as Dooley treated the rookie withdisdain until he was disqualified after refusing to

break a smother on the referees five count givingDangerfield his first victory in EPW. After the bellrung, Dooley continued punishing the rookie untilDavis Storm appeared and entered the ring tryingto calm Dooley down and offered his hand. Dooleysmiling turned away and exited the ring.

Prior to the scheduled singles match betweenJose Del Santo and Team Allstars MichaelMorleone, Sanders proclaimed Jose Del Santo to be

dead and announced him as Adrian Priest. Thematch then turned into a Tag Team encounter withPriest and EPW Champion Richter taking on anddefeating Sebastian Sander and Morleone.

EPW Hardcore Shield Champion, GavinMcGavin just came away with the Shield in hisgrasp after a 10 minute time limit Hardcore Shieldmatch against the Brothers Schmidt. BothSchmidts both had opportunities to hold the Shield

before McGavin gained the last pinfall. The Main Event was hugely anticipated with

Westside Pro Wrestling unleashes the Wraith on itsreaders with a bi-monthly column. You want someof this? Of course you do!

Here we are, once again, a whole year has passedand WESTSIDE PRO WRESTLING is still goingand I'm still in it. What crazy shenanigans will2011 bring???

But for my last Wraiths World for the year, I'mgoing to take an in-depth look at a few fellows onthe SHWA roster and their incredible moves.

Firstly I will start my buddy and tag teampartner PAIN! For all those who have seen thismonster of muscle in action, you would know heloves to use the "Power-bomb" but he also uses thistechnique as part of our awesome tag team finisher

The Shining Bomb! (which is an outstandingdoomsday shining wizard into a power-bomb).But lately, PAIN has been finishing his opponentsoff with a second rope Death Valley Bomb, whichmeans PAIN has been moving away from histraditional finisher The Status Quo (one armedmilitary press).

Moving onto Mad Mike MASSIVE, an opponent

who I have come up short against on a number ofoccasions. So Firstly, I understand how he likesto end his matches. He uses the MASSIVESLAM which is a falling body slam using hisweight to drive his opponent though the canvas, then he normally follows it up with the BlackHole Slam using his weight and the torque ofrunning opponent to twist and disorientate, beforedriving them down for the win. Secondly, he ishuge!! Who can stand up to MASSIVE???Jarrad Slate!!!

Westside Pro Wrestling Wrestler of the YEAR,current SHWA CHAMPION and member of the

Muscle Militia, JARRAD SLATE not only hastaken down Mike Massive but has retained the

SHWA title at numerous events. The Das Boot(running yakuza kick) is one of the most knowntechniques that Jarrad has put many of the rosteraway with and this huge kick is the move thatsecured his right to be the Champ!!!But Jarrad is not all giant kicks to the face! He has

many techniques at his disposal, but notably the useof a spring board frog splash, jumping off themiddle of the top rope using the extra spring tosend him high into the air and comes crashingdown on the weary challenger. If thats not enoughhe will put himself at risk, and using his body asthe weapon, the cannonball!!, a devastating runningattack where Slate flips into a sitting opponentslumped in the turnbuckle.

    Photo: Jarod/SHWA

Next, Jake Paragon, a warrior, which has recentlycome back to SHWA from injury, full of energyand out prove he's a contender. He is doing this byalmost taking his enemies heads off with hisLariat. It is a sight to see and not many have beenable stand after it. I have been lucky and have notfaced him in well over a year! To weaken theunlucky person normally Paragon softens them upwith his Figure 4 Bomb.

Moving on to some of the rookies who I will

blast though as if I was facing them in a match!Felix Young, is currently using the LightningSpiral (Swinging Leg Hook, Firemans carrySlam), an amazing move which uses his size andspeed to his advantage. Now all Felix has to do isknow when to use his move in the right momentand this kid may be up to good things in the newyear!

Aston Crude won his first match with the CrudeAwakening (top rope elbow drop). Aston who???Aston Crude who managed to land a win in his firstappearance in the SHWA at Reckless Abandon, butits all not elbows and flailing that will get you the

SHWA title!!Have I mentioned CRIMSON LIGHTNING!!!??

    Westside Pro Wrestling Page 9

I really wish I was a super hero Maybe I shouldgo out on patrol with him and we can be likeLuke Cage and Iron Fist!!! (Or more recently RedMist and KICK ASS!!) I'll even try to make himwear a golden tiara (remember the GoldenAvenger?) But what does he do? He uses the

Shocking End (Full Nelson Swinging DDT) andthe Lightning Crashes (Suplex to cutter) to doaway with villainy.

    Photo: Jarod/SHWA

Now lastly, of this bunch of SHWA misfits is

WESTSIDE PRO WRESTLING ROOKIE OFTHE YEAR! : Dan Steel. He sends a clear messageof power with the S.O.S - Slam of Steel(Olympic slam). This rookie is one to watch out forwith his near perfect technique and with a guidedhand he could be a front runner for the title shot!!

After speaking of Dan, I have to name dropJimmy Jamal Jenkins, Dans new buddy and TagTeam partner. Most of you would have to seenJimmys krumping ways, capitalizing on his dancemovements to increase the bodacityof the runningelbow to which he has labelled The PeoplesKrump, following this unorthodox move up withthe Krump Kutter. (Running Cutter which isexecuted while both opponents are running).

And so conclude this spotlight on a few of theroster that makes up S.H.W.A, be sure to keepreading into the next year, where I will continue to

bring my insightful twist on that which is the

    Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance.

Photo: Tez HimselfOne half of the voices of Explosive Pro Wrestling, and the two time WPW Commentator of the Year,

Mean Dean Olsen brings WPW all the latest on theEPW scene.

Welcome to the Mean Scene, with the two time(two time) WPW commentator of the year, myself,Dean Olsen. Well, what can I say; it is an honor toreceive the award for the second time, thank you.

Now November 27th sure was a night to remember,if you were lucky enough to be there, Im sureyoull never forget it, if you werent there, you

really missed the biggest and best show of the year.Re-Awakening 9 definitely didnt disappoint, it wasan amazing night of awesome wrestling action,Explosive Pro Wrestling at its finest and a card ofgreat matches from top to bottom. Lets have alook at what went down.

The first match up was the 3 way tag team titlenumber one contenders match. It was the BlitzTeam against Team All Star and the new team ofAZ Vegara and Dan Moore. All teams involved gotthe show started in a big way with lots of fast pacedoffence, and you could tell all teams wanted it to beover with quickly because the winner had to

wrestle for the tag titles later in the evening. Bigmoves were being hit all over the place and therewasnt time to blink in this nonstop tag team battle,

but in the end it was the Blitz Team of Shane Hasteand Alex Kingston who got the victory, and thetitle shot later in the night.

We then had the State of Origin match betweenSouth Australias Rocky Menero and our ownSebastian Sander. Much to everyones surpriseRocky came to the ring with Victorian managerRohan, and a familiar face to EPW, former tagchampion Slex. It didnt take long until Menerosfriends got involved in the match and Sander was

handed the match via disqualification.Re-Awakening being a big night this wasnt

gonna cut it, so the match was turned into a tagbout. Slex and Rocky up against Sander and hispartner the returning Mikey Nicholls. No one knewMikey was in town and when his music hit, theVasto Club erupted. Both teams battled it out in awell fought match. You can imagine how good a

match can be with the caliber of talent involved, itwas a treat to all the fans in attendance, and in theend Sebastian Sander scored the pinfall for the win.Mikey even got on the mic afterwards and spokethe praises of Sander who has had a great 2010 andis looking to have an even better 2011.

    Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling

Up next was the eight man elimination match ofTeam McGavin vs. Team Schmidt. The teams wereGavin McGavin, Brett Foxx, Adam Banks andRyan Dangerfield up against Gary Schmidt, JT,Hayden Zenith and the debuting Leo Pratt. Theaction was lightning quick having eight meninvolved, regular tags, there was never a dullmoment. It was great to see a lot of young EPWtalent on show in this match up, Foxx with his highflying expertise, put on a great show for all thefans, Banks and Dangerfield battled hard againstthe shifty tactics of Zenith and Pratt. The two mainrivals in this match Schmidt and McGavin finallygot to battle after Schmidt spent the match dodgingthe shoot fighter. The personal hatred between thetwo was too much as they fought to the outside andended up both getting counted out, it didnt seem tostop them as they kept brawling all the way to the

backstage area. In the end it came down to JT andBrett Foxx, both competitors went hard at it, butFoxx in the end scored the win for Team McGavinand JT was not happy. Having been outsmarted bya younger, newer competitor JT was outraged, andeven vented his frustration by having a hissy fit atringside.

The Invitational tournament final was next, CarloCannon, Kiel Steria and Marcius Pitt puteverything they had into a fight to be the winner of

Australias longest running tournament. We alsosaw some amazing offence in this one including atope rope overhead belly to belly suplex by Pitthurling Hollywood across to the other side of thering and colliding with Carlo, amazing stuff, had to

be seen to be believed. Each wrestler brought their

A game to the table, and it was anyones for thetaking, but finally in the end Marcius Pitt nailed theF-5 for the win and received the trophy, and willalso get a shot at EPW championship gold in thenext year, well done and congratulations.

    Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling

It was time to get hardcore next; Tyler Jacobs went

up against Chase Griffin for the EPW HardcoreShield. This match was pure violence, nogimmicky nurf guns or fit balls here, just brutalhard hitting weapons. The carnage was thick andfast in this one, after brawling all over the VastoClub using chairs and the like, Chase was driveninto a guard rail which resulted in him having a bigthick gash on his forehead with blood flowingconstantly. Tyler Jacobs took the advantage,

beating on Griffin as he was quickly losing blood, but whatever he did Chase kept kicking out, hewould not give up. Jacobs nailed Chase with achair shot that opened up the wound further, there

was actually a chuck of flesh hanging from thegash, and it was quite a grotesque sight. In the endthere after showing all the heart in the world Chasewas defeated by Tyler Jacobs, who is the new EPWHardcore Shield holder.

Jimmy Payne vs. Bobby Marshall in an I Quitmatch was next, and words cannot do this match

justice, these guys just devastated each other withall sorts of weaponry. A tool box was one weapon,

then they used the contents of it, spanners, hammers and all were used and then left in the ringand they slammed each other onto them. Wheneach man was asked if they quit, some of theresponses that were said were unprintable but bothmen took time in the match to even tell a couple of

jokes at the expense of each other. After all thebrutality, including both men going through ourannounce table it was Jimmy Payne who wasvictorious, and Im sure both men were very sorethe next day.

The EPW tag team titles were on the line next asthe winners of the first match, the Blitz Team got achance at the fresh champions Johnny Wimbledonand Chris Vice. Despite having gone through hellto get there, Haste and Kingston came out fightinghard and fast at the beginning of the match, but astime went on the champions begun to get theadvantage, dictating the pace and slowly taking

apart the challengers. After utilising all the dirtytricks in the book, it was Wimbledon and Vice whowon the match and retained their titles, buteveryone in the Vasto Club was proud of the hardfought effort of the newly reunited Blitz Team.

Now it was main event time Jamie Jurahdefending his EPW championship against DavisStorm, this match had been a long time coming, and certainly didnt disappoint. In the early goingJamie seemed a little hesitant but Storm was all

business. Both wrestlers were exchanging holdsand battling back and forth in a top of the linewrestling match that will be remembered for years,

as the match went on the intensity increased. Jurahand Storm exchanged forearms and kicks so stiffand hard it was a shock no one was leftunconscious. The crowd in the Vasto Club was atfever pitch in this main event, clearly behind Stormand booing Jurah at any opportunity, it was anamazing atmosphere and in the end the ironmanlocked on the crossface and Jurah tapped out. DavisStorm is the new EPW champion and board ofdirectors member, Brett Corvus came out andawarded Storm with the brand new EPWchampionship belt, which Storm held high with

    pride.

So that was Re-Awakening 9, it was truly thebiggest show of the year, and what a fantastic yearit has been for EPW, so many great shows andmatches. I would like to thank everyone who cameto any or all of our shows this year. 2010 has beena massive year for Explosive Pro Wrestling andwith your help were looking to make 2011 even

bigger, thank you all.Until next time keep supporting local wrestling

New Horizon Pro Wrestlings Mana, ThePolynesian Warrior, brings Westside Pro Wrestling

a monthly column in which he gives his thoughts onthe current scene or talks with superstar friends

from his past in the United States.

    Aftermath

Well after one of the most emotional shows I haveever been involved inFinal Chapter 2010 is nowunder wraps. Its one I was looking forward to butwas also cautious in, I officially retired from anAustralian Pro Wrestling ring which I haventstated before but I will be returning to America in2011. That tour will be my last matches ever if Ieven feel up to it because of the impact thatFinal

Chapterhad on so many I may not fight again. Now while it is very lonely place to be retiring as

you feel like yesterdays news one thing becameblatantly clear - Both Mana and Nick are luckyenough to have people from all over the world whotruly care for them. I want to let you readers knowthat it is very hard to have people who care for youin Wrestling because a lot of the time it is a selfserving business. Most would rather cut you downto get them employment or a spot and dont careabout being personal or cutthroat by any means todo just that.

Final Chapterfor me unveiled me some realtruths and people who I have mentioned beforeshowing their true inner selves.

Billy Gunn was just amazing - he has not lost astep and still looks like the powerhouse wrestler healways has been. He was professional and workedhis butt off for NHPW and our fans.

Mercedes Martinez my sister for life along withNikki Roxx who both I love dearly were there forme for the entrance ceremony. Both were cryingtheir eyes out with real emotion so much so thatI had to try prop them up as they were an emotionalwreck in their own way. I can still feel Mercedes

hand holding mine so tight and hugging my armwhile Nikki kept saying I was there for that showor Cant believe youre making me cry. That wasa real moment with two true friends.

Jake Bishop who was raised in the streets ofPhilly who as a true friend paid for himself to behere out of respect for me and just want to saygoodbye to a friend. The crowd loved Jake, theroster loved Jake and as a brother I love Jake. Wewerent even trained in the same school but Jakecame with his A Game and was definitely ON !!!I missed Jake and the girls no one could ever takethose moments from me.

Photo: ShaunSean PromotionsLast but not least I got to live my childhood dreamagain - for one last night Mana was aHeadshrinker/Samoan Swat Team member. I facedmy true mentor, idol and trainer for my last match. When Sam came off the plane he looked like agrizzly old bear, as we went to the training centrehe looked like a grumpy old bear. When he tooktraining the students were looking like man dont

bother him he is a grump. But as I knew he wouldSam switched on to train a couple of the studentsand even went so far as to allow my students toslam him and arm drag him. Bare in mind Sam just

got off the plane after 30 hours and was so tired itwasnt even funny - and he is not young either. Mystudents were privy to slamming, arm dragging andexecuting universals with a true legend in the

business. Sam is one of the last soldiers in arespected breed of pro wrestling. He worked in theoriginal NWA, WCCW, AWA, WCW, WWE /WWF and possessed Titles in all of them. BillyGunns main catchphrase for the weekend wasDont blame me, Sam taught me everything Iknow.

To say I am proud of the execution of the MainEvent between Mana Polynesian Warrior,

Headshrinker Samu and the Future of IslandWrestling Tama Williams is an understatement. We gave it our all and I think it is one of thematches that people will talk about for many yearsto come as there were A LOT of tears shed duringit. We gave it everything and walked away very

proud Now the thing that stunned me was I know how

much I love Jake, Nikki, Mercedes and Samu. Theydid all the shows for me out of love - not moneynot glory but respect. These four soldiers were hereto help me and I love them so much. They put there

bodies on the line for me out of respect and as

family to me. For this the realization of how lucky Iam to have found true friends who would do that

for me makes me so thankful.

    Photo: ShaunSean Promotions

Note to all wrestlers out there - It Is so hard to sayyou have real friends to look too when the chips aredown. These are four who proved that when I look

back at my career killed themselves on theIndependent Scenes of Wrestling and who did notneed my influence to get them into companies.Their in ring work got them their own reputationand success where I look at it now and I was so

proud to be a part of.Our first Solid year as a solo company is now in

the books - thanks to a few stupid moves where I

did not even want to have NHPW running initiallynow we are a Go.We arent going anywhere but insaying that we are still growing and I see a lot ofimprovements every show in appearance, talent andemotional intensity, I myself am learning the curbof actually being in charge but after talks withSamu - I am good with the position now and havethe support cast to make this happen and besomething some day.

In one year we boast international talent thatothers cant run with in there entire history.Interstate talent that are proven main event worthyand would be used on any roster in Australia.

Young Talent that will around for a long time andwill make an impact on Wrestling in the world not

just Australia in the future, especially if I haveanything to do with it. A womens division that isearning respect with top line Wrestling not JellyWrestling, Bra and Panties bullshit. We also hadIndygurlz as a main event match which correct meif I am wrong is one of many firsts NHPWachieved this year. Women fighters from all overthe world wanting to be here as part of somethingspecial.

We gave it all to our supporters this year and2011 looks to be another jump forward as well withmany talents coming to Australia already sortedout,

Look forward to seeing you all at NHPW showsnext year - we are slowly getting there and thankfulfor the support. Stick around, I promise you it will

    be a fun ride

Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year

On a Personal Note as Mana - Thank you all for theMemories

    SincerelyThe Entire NHPW Family.

Jake Paragon has been part of the local scene sincedebuting in 2007 and has wrestled not only locallyin WA, but also in New South Wales and SouthAustralia. WPWs Tez got the chance to talk to theAlpha and Omega of Australian Wrestling beforeSHWAs big second anniversary show,Ascension

    II.

    Photo: Jarod/SHWA

WPW: Before you turned pro, you wrestled for

NSWA-e as Dr. Chops. Do you have fond

    memories of that time?

PARAGON: I have loads of fond memories. It wasmy first experience doing anything with structuredsports entertainment. It was a company dedicatedtowards charity and it was a group of people doingit for fun and love. Yes, it was Suburban

Wrestling, which was a mix of backyard and pro -but we had a venue, and drew 250+ crowds. For acompany without a professional wrestling ring, thatis a huge achievement, and a great feather in thecap of the lady who ran it, Amanda. I'm still tyingup with some of the same wrestlers from that verycompany to this day, in the professional setting of

the Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance, and Iwouldn't have it any other way.

WPW: How did you get the moniker of the

Alpha and Omega of Australian Wrestling?

PARAGON: Back in 2008, when I wrestled for apromotion that now officially denies that I everexisted). I was a part of the heel stable The AlphaOmega. I created the name and the angle it couldfollow. Due to booking issues, departing/retiringwrestlers, and so forth, it wasn't feasible to run it asa stable anymore and I was proud of the foothold ithad gotten, so I decided to keep the moniker and

have it apply to myself alone - and try to earn it asbest I can.

WPW: You had a short run as Independent

Champion in late 2007-early 2008, after winning

the title from Jarrad Slate. To date this has been

your only title reign, was it a big deal for you?PARAGON: It was a big deal at the time.

WPW: In early 2008, you go to travel Interstate

for the first time to work for PWA Elite (now

PWA Australia). What was that experience like

for you as you were still in your rookie pro

year?PARAGON: My part was fairly minor, and rightlyso. Looking back I don't believe I was at a levelwhere I should have been on the same card as some

  • 8/8/2019 Westside Pro Wrestling - Issue 16 - December 2010

    17/21

    Westside Pro Wrestling Page 17

of the incredible talent that PWA has. It was, ofcourse, an honour and aprivilege, and I hope that ifI get the chance to visit PWA again anytime soonthat I can give them a much better showing than

    before.

WPW: Later in 2008 you along with a number

of other wrestlers started SHWA. Were you

nervous at all about starting a new promotion?PARAGON: I was definitely nervous, as it was a

business venture, not a hobby. With hobbies youcan pick it up, give it up, leave it till later, pick itup again, etc. SHWA was opened as a business. Itwas not created to be a flash in the pan, or anovernight sensation, or something to kill time. Westarted it with the full intention of creatingsomething that would become great and stand outin the world of Australian wrestling. Of course, there was some minor irritation in the threats andabuse I received over the internet and over the

phone from former colleagues who disagreed withwhat myself and the rest of the SHWA crew wasdoing, but that didn't last long - but SHWA suredid! Two years now and we're stronger than ever, and happier than ever.

WPW: You had a great three match series

against Californian, Jarek Matthews in late

2009. Do you think the series against Matthews

    improved your wrestling?

PARAGON: Definitely. Jarek has a long history tohis name and a lot of experience. It was a huge

privilege to be able to fight him - especially three

times! Any wrestler should leap at the opportunityto wrestle against quality international talent and Ifeel that in those three matches I had with him, notonly did it push my limits beyond what they hadalways been, but I've never been the same sinceand it gave me lots of new motivation andinspiration to evolve and improve. I hope I get thechance to take him on again and show him what theAlpha and Omega has become.

WPW: You recently returned from injury after

several months off, and in a lot better shape.

How much weight did you lose and how did you

go about doing it?PARAGON: I lost just over 18 kgs. That is over 40pounds, if my dodgy math is correct. I achieved itthrough the Body-for-Life diet and exercise

program. One of my friends, Simon, clued me intoit and we started it together to motivate each otherto achieve the full 12 week challenge. I am very

proud to say I followed the rules to the letter for 12long and painful, yet very, very exciting weeks, as Isaw the weight melting away and a physiquefinally appearing. I have started another programand am determined to lose another 15 kilos in 12weeks at the time of this interview. The most

important thing I learned from the challenge is thata regular human being such as myself can find away to evolve.

    Photo: Jarod/SHWA

WPW: We are just a few short weeks away fromSHWAs second anniversary show, Ascension II.

It is a big show in the history of the company.

How do you prepare for such a major show?PARAGON: I do what every fighter, everywrestler, every MMA contender, every boxer, every combatant does before a major bout. I trainmyself harder than ever. I put myself in the most

peak physical condition I can so that when I enterthe ring, I hopefully have the advantage overwhoever stands opposite. To do any less is todisgrace yourself and the fans who support you. Ialso try to motivate my colleagues in this regard as

well, as an entire card of wrestlers fighting theirhardest in their best condition is what the fanswant, and what they should get.WPW: What have been some of your favourite

moments so far, either in the ring or behind the

    scenes?

PARAGON: The crowd response to Chris Mastersas one of SHWA's main events. The opening of ourvery first show in 2008. The experience ofwrestling for Snakepit in Adelaide. The rib we

pulled on the $oldiers of Fortune by changing theirentrance music to "Big Red Car" by the Wiggles.

Being a spotlighted wrestler for Westside ProWrestling. I've got so many that come to mind thatI can't write them all down. The best ones yet I'msure are yet to come, and hopefully someday I getinterviewed again to recap even more!

WPW: What do you hope to achieve in the

business before you retire?PARAGON: My ultimate success would be to mainevent the Tokyo Dome someday, like my heroesKensuke Sasaki, Kenta Kobashi, NaomichiMarufuji, and Stan Hansen. However, wrestling inJapan for a living alone would be enough for me toconsider myself having succeeded in my vocation.

WPW: Thank you for taking the time to speak

    to WPW, Jake.
