2Find out more about Birds of Prey during events at Braddock Bay April 24-26

The 27th annual Bird of Prey Days at Brad-dock Bay Park are April 24 - 26.

This park, located on the south shore of Lake Ontario, lies in the path of 17 species of raptors and vultures as they travel from their wintering grounds to their spring nest-ing areas. Each spring, this location is witness to huge kettles of Broad-winged hawks, Tur-key vultures, and Sharp-shinned hawks. Each season, an official counter tallies hundreds of Bald Eagles and Red-shouldered hawks, the licensed raptor banders capture hundreds of Red-tailed and Cooper’s hawks, and volun-teers troll the woods counting Northern Saw-whet and Long-eared owls at this “rest-stop” before continuing their migration.

The efforts are part of Braddock Bay Raptor Research (BBRR) which sponsors the event.

See birds close up at the BBRR raptor band-ing station. Also planned are education pro-grams, for all levels of bird watching, which provide a chance to see a hawk, owl or eagle up close and personal.

There is one entry fee for entire weekend: $5 per adult (suggested donation); children are free.

Program highlights include:•Live Birds of Prey with Paul Schnell fea-turing Liberty the Bald Eagle, Friday, April

24. This will be their last Bird of Prey Days ap-pearance as they will be moving out of state in the near future.•Learn about our feature species – the Ameri-can Kestrel•Live Raptor Program from Kindred King-doms•Presentation on the Snowy Owl by Tom Mc-Donald•Live Birds from the Seneca Park Zoo’s Weg-mans Zoomobile•Wings of Spring Photography Session•Visit the Hawkwatch all weekend or go on a tour of the Hawk Banding Station•Owl Prowls – Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26 at 7:30 a.m.
