Committed to providing an excellent, friendly service combined with value for money and a pleasant shopping experience. Each of the retail branches stock thousands of fast moving products, so effective materials handling is a very important part of company operations according to Operations Manger Steve Broom. “As the company has grown so too has the demands on the warehouse operation,” commented Steve. “Crediton in particular required updating as we had older forklifts that needed to be replaced, we also realised that we needed to reorganize the warehouse layout for optimum efficiency and safety. So with this in mind, and the ongoing servicing requirements for our other forklifts to consider, we decided to go out to tender.”

Mole Avon Trading Limited has served the farming and rural communities of Devon and the South West for nearly 50 years.

Originally founded in Crediton as a farmers buying group in 1966, it became a limited company in 1973 and has since enjoyed sustained growth. Today, there are in excess of 900 Shareholders and 1500 Annual Trading Members who see the value in ‘belonging’ to the Mole Avon organisation.

Now with three strategically placed retail branches in Crediton, Okehampton and Axminster, Mole Avon Trading have weathered the storm of the ever changing and challenging agricultural and rural environment and continue to produce consistently solid operating results with annual turnover now in excess of £23 million.

Mole Avon Trading had already met the Westexe team at the Devon County Show. Having seen the Doosan range close up, and hearing of some of the local companies who were already benefiting from the products and services, Mole Avon Trading were eager to include Westexe in the tender process.

Warehousing Expertise

“Right from the outset Westexe impressed with their approach in offering us a total warehousing solution rather than just try and sell us forklift trucks,” added Steve. “They listened to our requirements and recommended a racking layout that would cater for our immediate needs and future growth. We then had a number of trucks in on demonstration to which the Doosan’s performed well and received positive feedback from all of the operators. But ultimately it was the fact that Westexe had the expertise to manage and service our existing trucks, together with supplying new machines and overcoming our racking issues that we

decided to award them the contract.”

Out of the seven trucks in the Mole Avon Trading fleet, four have been replaced with new Doosan machines – Electric Counterbalance Trucks and Reach Trucks. The Westexe team services and maintains the three existing forklift trucks.

Doosan Pro-5 Electric Counterbalance - Ultimate All Rounder

Reliability, safety and maximum productivity is what the Doosan Pro-5 electric series is all about. The latest technology and innovation using AC power means the ACT System (Active Control Technology) can maximise the efficiency of the motors to provide industry leading performance and drive characteristics. Doosan 7-Series Reach Truck – Reaching New Heights

Built in line with Doosan’s ethos and reputation for high quality, affordable machines, the advanced 7-Series reach trucks are the latest addition to the already extensive warehouse range offering an unbeatable combination of high productivity, maximum operator comfort and durability.

Mole Avon Trading has built their business on offering a wide range of products and friendly service so accessibility to goods and uptime of the materials handling is key.

“In a business like ours and with customers who demand the highest levels of service and choice, we can not afford unplanned downtime. Although a relatively new partnership, we have been highly impressed with the high level of service from Westexe,”

concludes Steve Broom.
