Elementary School Themes - All Strengths

• Communication from schools and District is excellent according to parents

• Caring school communities that allow for social emotional learning

• Teachers are friendly and approachable in morning and after school

• Most perceive students are in a safe and respectful environment

• Health Clinic and Wellness Center as well as Wolf Pantry are appreciated

Growth Areas

• Specials were indicated as a need by all constituents groups

• New and/or additional mental health resources are needed

• Lack of Staff planning and collaboration time is a significant concern for Staff and has a negative impact on students

• Need for consistent discipline process and experience across elementary buildings

• Low level of parent engagement and very little parent education is an issue

• Need to work to reduce barriers to learning based on perceived equity and disparity

• Standard Math program is needed across elementary buildings

• Textbooks are desired by parents to support learning

• Perception of have and have nots between elementary buildings

• Parents and Staff indicated need to make elementary school experience consistent across buildings and to seek collaboration to do so 9

Strengths

• Good way to help kids with physical and mental problems, Hope Squad

• Wide variety of extracurricular activities and electives

• Communication from Principals and Teachers

• Teachers – in tune, students feel welcome, friendly, helpful, supportive!

• Big library and space utilized well

• Offer advanced level classes

• Field trips, visiting businesses , Great Oaks , and Career Café

• Chromebooks provided are nice!

• Class times are a good length

• Student Ambassador is a good program

• Food and lunch overall are good

• Most students are nice, kind, super- friendly and make school fun!

Middle School Themes - All

• Leadership and Supervision is needed

– Discipline inconsistent and concerns “vaping” not addressed

– Student individual accountability for behavior is needed

– Environment has too many fights and does not feel safe to students

– Hope Squad kids needs support when being made fun of by others

• Student report high stress levels related to schedule and environment

– Early start time, bell changes, lunch time, going to bathroom, chaos after school

• Higher academic standards and less focus on standard testing #1 from parents

– Students desire more challenging, interactive assignments and self directed learning

– Parents see need to address special needs and gifted needs

• Needs to be more of a sense of community for students and parents

– Parents do not feel connected to the school and team in the school

– Schoology is not effective for some parents, need education

• Students assigned to dedicated Teams is viewed positively overall and would like more choice

– Program could be augmented to create multi-year connection and mentoring

– Parent Ambassadors could support teams to encourage more parent engagement

• Would like exposure to life skills such as cooking, money management and others

• Physical environment of dirty bathrooms, bugs, and leaking ceilings is a dis-satisfier for students

• Address high cost of athletics and offer more (boy’s soccer and volleyball mentioned)

Strengths

• Teachers are caring, welcoming, supportive and approachable!

• Great technology in classroom support

• District leadership is positive and approachable

• New facilities and programs a plus!

• Really good communication from the high school!

• School spirit and pride is on the rise and sports are fun

• Class options and variety of courses, clubs and involvement opportunities

• Career day, ACT prep, Mentor program, LEAD program

• Great Oaks and Mercy partnerships

High School Themes - All

Growth Areas

• Cell phones are big issue contributing to many other problems shared by all!

– Students are often too distracted to learn, contributes to bullying

– Culture concerns - lack of connection, mean behavior and lack of sense of community

• Busing is an issue, tardy system is seen as too strict – related to busy traffic, need something new

• Higher academic standards are needed especially shared by parents

– More advanced and accelerated classes are needed

– SEL for high school students across the board

– More specific counseling and preparation for college to graduate with a plan

• Life skills, critical thinking, problem solving, self aware, personal drive, and grit

• Students need to be more respectful to adults and authority according to teachers

– Communication needs to improve overall from perspective of students

• Administration is too tough on students and not approachable

– Teaching staff is not as understanding and open minded as needed

– Higher engagement of students and parents is needed

– Need to make discipline and consequences mean something and be consistent

• College and career readiness with more job shadowing would be welcome

• Cost of lunch is seen as too high and long wait times to eat

– Easy fix – more microwaves to get lunch faster in café
