Falcon Faithful,

After lengthy negotia-tions with the boss I’m back on the job.

Let’s hope I earn my new salary, or did mgmt. tell me celery?

At a recent mass, the title of the homily was “Faith and Doubt” and how they go together. Oddly enough it made me think of this com-ing football season. (I only gave it thought after mass, not during it…well, ...maybe not. … um ”Bless me Father for I have …”)

Some doubt if this team can be as good as last year, or that we have the athletes, or if the kids have the same desire.

We’ll folks I have FaithFaithFaithFaith, that they’ve worked as

hard as any previous team. I have FaithFaithFaithFaith this group will de-velop & display their own unique talents on the field.

Lastly, I have a lot of lot of lot of lot of FaithFaithFaithFaith in Coach Rohn and his staff. They always prepare, push and encourage these boys to step up. He tells them to become a family & leave their own foot(ball) print in West Catholic His-tory.

So folks, put all your energy on the Faith Faith Faith Faith side, it’s the winning side, and support an-other very Special Team this year.

I’d like to comment that I worked hard this offseason to keep the Newsletter price down. I didn’t want

to lose my last two subscribers…(yikes).

I’m happy to report that I also have spon-sors this year, many of them don’t even know it yet. .Ha!

Serious business, I’ll honor local busi-nesses that support our teams, look for ar-ticles all year

In his edition you’ll also meet the Varsity Players, plus a new feature: titled “Who’s that Dude or Dudette?

So much stuff, I can’t list them all.

Sit back, read and en-joy!

emy & GVSU, I think all in that order?

In her past, she’s coached both Softball & Basketball @ Portland St Patrick & even brought her Basketball teams to the State Finals three times during her career there.

She teaches like she coaches, focusing on the fundamentals and building from there.

When I first met her at Parent Teacher Conferences, she gave me a glimpse of her teaching style.

How each class is like a team, and they all need practice, she dispenses that practice in the form of home work, &

practice sheets.

Like a coach she sets up a scrimmage, to check account-ability...as in Quizzes...you with me so far?

Next it’s “Game Time”, taking the Test, and she is just as nervous as her students, but with a great game plan you get great results.

After her explanation, she had me so fired up, I wanted to chest bump. She explained that would probably lead to a lawsuit, and that a High Five or Fist Bump would be better, so we left it at that.

Ms G., you are 2 good, 2 to be 4 gotten!

Sometimes you pass familiar faces at school events and have no clue of who they are. Well I’m here to shed some light on those folks and help you get to know them.

My first article is on Ms. G.

Did you know that she is be-ginning her 28th year of teaching @ West? She han-dles Math & other braniac stuff. She leads the Math Chal-lenge that takes place every February, and her teams have taken 1st or 2nd the last two years against other “Mensa” type schools. Can you say Dy-nasty?. Born and raised on the West Side, she attended Sacred Heart, Mt Mercy Acad-

The answers to those ques-tions is one man and one place, Rich Ford Owner and Proprietor of Victory Apparel.

This Friday please take notice of the Sponsor Banners at the game. These businesses rep-resent our support network and life line for our programs.

I’m dedicating the next few lines with a little Spotlight Showcase.

You ever go to a game and notice that one guy on the side line that looks really snazzy with his outfits?

You wonder, is he a male model, does he work for GQ, where does he get his finest

Last year I borrowed a dollar, pried it from his hands actu-ally, thus he became the first official paid sponsor for the Touchdown Club Newsletter.

The next time you need shirts for an event, your business, or just want to look good at the club scene, contact Rich Ford @ Victory Apparel.

He’ll give you the shirt off his back…...and then hand you an in-voice for it as well.

Our final feature sponsor this week is a West Side Retail fa-vorite Frank’s Market .Owned and operated by Fritz Stanitzek & his business part-ner Jay.

This old world butcher shop is a clean machine, the smells of spices and sausage with lean cuts of meat neatly displayed in cases, just makes you buy stuff when you walk in.

Started back in 1933 by his grand father, then passed along to his father Frank Jr. and now Fritz has taken the

reigns of Kielbasa King!

Their friendly staff always meatmeatmeatmeat and greet everyone who walks in the door. If you want great Kielbasa, Pierogi, Kracki, German Sausage or Hot Shots, run don’t walk to 750 W. Fulton for GR’s finest specialty meats, cheeses and groceries.

Fritz, and his bride Patti have some WC kids as well, gradu-ates & twin daughters Natalie and Meghan and son Mitchell.

Fritz, like his employees likes

to meat his customers, shake their hands and thank them for their business.

If you catch him on a good day, he’ll supply you with some of his famous “Constructive Friticzisms”... all for free!

that played last year on the WC/CC Rugby Team include the following:

Josh Bancuk, Jacob Berquist,

Josh Colon, Nick Heitzman, Jacob Volk and Scott Ze-maitis.

Did you also know that their team last year were crowned the Michigan High School Rugby Division 1 State Cham-pions defeating Holland West Ottawa?

Did you know that West Catholic has been involved with our fellow school in Faith Catholic Central in the sport of Rugby?

It’s a grand game and many of our Football players have been actively involved.

For example Gabe Sochanek and John Nowak are mem-bers of the 2011 D1 National Champions Davenport Uni-versity.

Some of our current Falcons

That means many of them participated in Two State Championships last year!

That’s pretty impressive stuff!

So when spring rolls around next year make a point to come out and watch our kids in this unique sport.
