Summer Reading 2013 Touchdown Reading Program Dear Parents, Silverstein Hebrew Academy will be participating in the Touchdown Reading Program, a reading incentive program in conjunction with TD Bank. Your child will have the opportunity to improve his or her reading skills while earning cash from TD Bank. Each child will be required to read three books according to his/her level and complete an assignment related to each book read over the summer. The grades for the summer assignments will be averaged into the 1 5t grading period. By reading an additional 7 books, your child will earn $10 deposited in a savings account at your local TD Bank. The Game Plan When: June 24, 2013 to August 30 What: Touchdown Reading Program will earn your child cash for a TD savings account, in addition to yardage in our football game for each leveled book read. How: Your child needs to read 3 or more books on level Please keep track of the books your child reads using the Reading Log attached to this sheet. Each child must hand in the completed Reading Log and assignments to his/her teacher on the first day of school (Sept. 3). Students will enter the Touchdown Reading contest for prizes. Your TD Bank reading log will be returned within the first week of school so that your child can take the log to a local TD Bank for the $10 deposited into his/her very own savings account. Please note that we will be emailing all parents a complete list of recommended summer reading list for levels A-Z. Children should read at their level, but are encouraged to attempt one level above their own. The more they read over the summer, the greater the likelihood that a student advances in reading fluency and rises in reading levels. Here's to a summer full of reading! What: Touchdown Reading Program will earn your child cash for a TD

savings account, in addition to yardage in our football game for each leveled book read.

How: Your child needs to read 3 or more books on level

Please keep track of the books your child reads using the Reading Log attached to this

sheet. Each child must hand in the completed Reading Log and assignments to his/her teacher

on the first day of school (Sept. 3). Students will enter the Touchdown Reading contest for prizes. Your TD Bank reading log will be returned within the first week of school so that your child can take the log to a local TD Bank for the $10 deposited into his/her very own savings account.

Summer 2013 reading assignment grades K-2

Choose 3 activities from the list below to do over the summer. This assignment will count as

students' first homework assignment of the school year and is due to the General Studies

teacher on September 3, 2013.

1. Choose a picture or scene from a book you read. Describe what you see in the picture.

2. Draw a picture to describe a book you read from the summer reading list.

3. Draw a new cover or make an advertisement for a book you read.

4. Read a recipe or cooking directions and have an adult help you to cook it. In a few

sentences tell us what you made and how it tasted.

5. Take a trip to the zoo. See how many animals you can name. Read about each animal

and write three interesting facts you learned about each animal.

6. Write a letter and mail it to someone. It can be a grandparent, a friend, or anyone who

would love to hear from you!

Have a wonderful summer!
