Director’s Message I’ve been in the “kid business” for some time now. Actually, over 25 years in our school district alone. And our community education department has been in it even longer – over 35 years! One of the most satisfying elements of this “business” is helping and seeing kids learn and grow. Our goal is always to make our camps and programs fun for kids while mixing in a whole bunch of learning. Our summer day camps, namely, Summer Sun & Fun, Camp Superstar and Get REAL Camp are all run by experienced, mature and very qualified staff. Mr. Tom DeGrand, 5th grade teacher at Scotch Elementary is in his 7th year as lead teacher. Tom’s strong teaching and relationship-building skills and the experience of our camp counselors all add up to a rock solid team that loves and cares about kids.

Science, computers, robotics, sports, arts and crafts, field trips, summer reading program with the West Bloomfield Public Library, free breakfast and lunch along with daily trips to the beach make this an exceptional experience for our campers. Six hours a day, five full days per week for $175 a week! If your child has never experienced one of our camps, he or she is missing OUT!

In addition to our camps, we have some great academic opportunities. Namely, Bridge 6, designed to create a smooth transition from 5th to 6th grade, Bridge 9 to build work skills, study habits and self-esteem for incoming 9th graders and GRASP 2020, a home-based program to help students maintain or improve their math and reading skills. This summer we are again partnering with Michigan Virtual Academy to offer two completely on-line programs. EdReady Math will help students master over 400 critical math concepts and skills. EdReady English will teach students over 130 concepts and skills such as identifying main ideas, exploring comparative elements and learning across disciplines. These two programs are for students in grades 4-8 and is only $50 for the summer. Don’t delay. Register today!

Have a happy spring and happy summer.
