A new school at a time of great improvement

• The Governors, students and staff are proud to celebrate the opening of our new community school at a time of increasing improvement.

• In a year when we achieved our best-ever GCSE results, we have also opened our state-of-the-art brand new school, revealed our smart new uniform and embraced the future with a New name - Heritage High School.

• This presentation shows what is now available to you, your children and the wider community at Heritage High School, a Specialist Mathematics and Computing College.

Attending a BSF School Whose school is it?


• Heritage High School is a Community School.

• It is now one of the best-equipped schools in Derbyshire and possibly in the country. It has the most up to date resources & technology; designed with input from students, staff, governors and a range of building experts - with learning in mind it meets the needs of current and future generations of learners. During the school day it is primarily used by the students of the school.

• During out-of-school hours it is available for use by the wider community.


Access to the school site

Temporary access to the new site is from Boughton Lane past the side of the old school building. Parking is currently to the right of the entry before visitors arrive at the new buildings.



We have hi-tech security, including 32 CCTV located at key areas on the school to protect students and staff to deter inappropriate and antisocial student behaviour as well as external intruders.

Looking after our learning spaces

Our students and staff are overtly proud of our new school and the facilities it offers to all of our community. We want you to be proud too and we hope that your pride is reflected in the way that you use our facilities, in a respectful and responsible manner, leaving them as we would like to find them, and treating them as your own. Heritage High School is your school as well.

Our learning spaces: The Main Hall

Conferences, meetings, presentations, movies, drama, musicals, concerts... our main hall can do it all!

Our Main Hall is a wonderful facility. Equipped with retractable, tiered and padded seating that can accommodate up to 250 people, with capacity to increase this at ground level.

Dinner dances, Awards ceremonies, reunion dinners, community gatherings, student lunches ... our main hall can cater for all!

Located adjacent to the Dining Room there is a modern kitchen with the capacity to seat over 300 people. Directly accessible from the school’s main entrance it is ideal for both school and community use.

Film clubs, brass bands, singers, ballet, amateur dramatics, local politics, big business and charities... our main hall can host you all!

We have hi-tech video projection facilities, computer controlled equipment, and a technicians’ viewing gallery - all perfect for dramatic events and charismatic conferences.

Freedom of expression often requires an airy auditorium...our main hall offers comfort for all!

Not only can we comfortably hold 250 people, our main hall has a natural ventilation system controlling the air temperature based on the volume of people present making the event a comfortable and memorable one.

We have a purpose-built Dance Studio, a Drama Studio, a Fitness Suite, a Sport and Leisure Activity Room suitable for non-ball activities and our sports hall has been significantly upgraded.

Other additional facilities

Our new facilities have been built to an exceptionally high standard for everyone to use, and our facilities have been built to last.

Comparable to modern Gyms and Leisure Clubs our new facilities are a welcome addition for students, staff and our community.

All our rooms are warmed using a sustainable and environmentally friendly system.

Temperature and air conditioning in all rooms is managed through an automated control system.

Windows will open automatically to allow ventilation when rooms are too warm or stuffy by reading Carbon Dioxide levels given off by the room’s population.

Our modern conference room offers video and projection facilities available for school and our community’s wider use.

The room is supported by technology that enables a visual display of presentations in large meetings.

The room can accommodate over 20 people and has full secure WIFI facilities.

The Conference Room

Our conference room has a unique, discreet, refreshment area, including: on-tap boiling water for hot drinks, washing area and re-fridgeration.

As with all our rooms in the school the Conference room uses our unique automated temperature control system.

In some secondary schools toilets can be used for anti-social behaviour, such as smoking and bullying. This is NOT the case at Heritage High School

We have modern toilet facilities including a number of toilets for disabled users.

Our toilets are open plan and available for use by both sexes with areas outside the cubicles monitored by CCTV.

Toilets

Our toilets have modern open-plan sinks, with soap dispensers large enough to cater for the needs of many users, so no more queuing to wash hands, so no more hanging around.

Our toilets are checked regularly by staff, not only to ensure they are clean and hygienic, but also not areas of anti-social activity.

Food can be eaten in a number of designated areas.

Cold and hot food, such as Pasta or Baked Potatoes can be eaten ‘al fresco’ in our purpose-built external areas such as, the canopy or outside seating areas.

Our Dining Room has plenty of of serving hatches for collecting food and returning your finished utensils.

In addition to excellent seating arrangements there are also large plasma screens for the digital delivery of information, presentations and student content.

Eating in the new school

We want our school to stay looking as fantastic as the day it was opened. Therefore chewing gum is banned from the school site.

Discarded chewing gum can cause terrible damage to floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings around the school.

Be aware that there are financial penalties for any chewing gum-related damage to the premises. Ignorance of this rule will not be tolerated.

It is against the law to smoke on the school site.

MITIE, supported by the school, will take legal action against damage caused to the site from smoking related behaviour.

The Learning Resources Centre ‘The Hive’

Our New Hive is a fully immersive educational experience centre.

We have 20 state-of-the-art desktop PC Computers running Windows 7 and exceptional educational software including a host of Microsoft software, Adobe Creative suites, Video editing facilities and graphics studios.

Additionally we have 20 portable computers and boundless library resources and facilities.

We have brand new buildings, a new uniform, a new school name - and our students have had a say in each of these new changes.

We held a competition for students to design our new school logo and the winning entry is the design you can see on this very page. A rewarding and communal effort that exceeded expectations.

We have a new motto: Together we strive to exceed expectations, this embraces our belief that everyone, community included, should have the opportunity to learn in an environment that allows them to develop themselves more than they thought possible.

Our teaching areas are equipped with the latest technology, new furniture and eco-friendly climate and lighting control systems that automatically operate windows and lights.

Our brand new modern eating and dining spaces include outdoor areas for the warmer weather.

Our new sporting, artistic, performance, musical, design and ICT equipment and learning spaces for practical subject areas are exceptional environments for the development of young minds.

We have water fountains around the school where students can fill their water bottles, and only water is permitted for drinking in classrooms.

Our outdoor canopy areas are where students can sit and work still be able to access the internet via wireless functionality, so students can work outdoors on laptops during the warmer months.

Heritage High School is a purpose built community school designed to enhance learning.

It’s an environment created specifically to help young people embrace the best that can be offered, to enhance and embolden their educational opportunities so that they leave school having exceeded their expectations and are ready for what the world has to offer them, and what they can offer the world.

Heritage High School is a community facility, governed by a user code to ensure that users continue to have the best facilities possible for as long as possible. Our school is designed for our students and our community, and it’s a school I believe we all deserve.
