MATCH REPORTS: First Team –

Toss: Wycombe House won the Toss and choose to bowl first

SKLP: 123 all out in 37 overs (Sohail 6-

Wycombe House: 124-4 (Savin 43*)

Result: Wycombe House won by 6 wkts

Spin King Elahi takes 6 again!!!

Spin King Sohail Elahi produced another wonderful bowling display to help Wycombe House to their second win in a row away at SKLP. The in-form Sohail Elahi completed a wonderful achievement of a hat-trick of 6 wicket hauls – taking 6 wickets in each of the last three matches.

Page 4: Welcome to Wycombe House Cricket Club - Pitcherofiles.pitchero.com/clubs/41595/whcc-circular-july-19th_125976.pdfWelcome to Wycombe House Cricket Club 1’s, 3’s win & MDL smash

Wycombe House won the toss and stuck SKLP into bat on what looked like a decent track. This looked like a bad decision as SKLP got off to a flyer as the openers put on 80 for the first wicket off the first 18 overs. But skipper Alex Thamby then turned to spin and the Elahi spin twins soon got in on the act. Sohail in particular was is masterful form. 80 for no wicket soon become 95 for 6 as the spinners took control and the batsman had no answer. Wickets continued to fall at breath-taking pace as SKLP were dismissed for 123 inside 40 overs.

In reply the Wycombe House top order struggled. They were reduced to 24 for 4 and the low target looked a long way away. But youngster Savin Perera was joined by the experienced Carl Burdett and the fight back begun. But It was youngster Savin Perera (43 not out) who shone and looked the more experienced player as he battled hard in sensible fashion to help build a 90 run partnership with Carl Burdett (39 not out) to see Wycombe House home with 6 wickets to spare. A valuable 10 points ahead of a top of the table clash with Bessborough next weekend.

Sohail taking 6 wkts for the third match in a row! Savin & Burdy putting on 90 to win the game!

Second Team –

Toss: Southgate won toss & batted first

Southgate: 179-8d, 53 overs

Wycombe House: 146-6, 47 overs Result: Losing Draw Weather: Lovely, summer time sunshine Southgate won the toss and elected to bat first. With the start of the 2nd half of the season under way. Things looked promising with the weather set to be in good tune finally. Naved and "Rhino" Zahid Biseem, opened the bowling with a tight spell from the duo. The opening batsman didn't find it easy to find runs early on. As the batsman looked to slowly build on to form a partnership spinner Shemby was brought on from the tennis court end and successfully got the first wicket in his 1st wicket maiden over. Shemby bowled well getting 4 wickets in total. With Spin being the key to gain wickets Bilal Ch, joined in with the spin attack and got 3 wickets. As the overs came to the final few Naved came back for his second spell and gained a wicket, before Southgate declaring in 53 overs. 2nd innings: Shemby and Haras opened the batting. 2 balls into the innings Sembhy lost his wicket to a controversial

LBW decision, AB and Jags then shortly fell with a bad start to the second half. Naved came in and scored 30. After which got out and in came Humayune who scored 20. After the loss of Humayune's wicket Haras lost his wicket. Logan came in to bat accompanied with Zahid Biseem. Both whom had a good partnership raising the run rate. With only a few overs to go Zahid played more aggressively reducing the gap but lost his wicket with 2 overs to spare. Ibrahim finished off with Logan both, not out in the remaining overs finishing off with a draw. Next game versus Bessborough away. Crucial game, with the table very competitive/tight. Need to take our "A" game with us lads! Let's repeat another win against Bessborough.

Third Team – WHCC 3s v/s Edmonton 3s Venue: Edmonton

Toss: WHCC won the toss and elected to field first Edmonton: 97 all out in 41.2 overs WHCC: 98-7 in 28.3 overs Result: WHCC won by 3 wickets (10 points) Man of the Match: - Yahya Khan

Report: On a sunny day, the WHCC 3rd XI boys travelled up the A406 to Edmonton for their away fixture in what was once again a must win game to get to the top half of the league and still keep their promotions dream alive. Skipper Vasi won the toss and elected to field first on what was a green wicket. Vasi struck first by cleaning up the Edmonton ex-wycombe house player Ali Abbas in his 2nd over. Yahya on the other end was again proving to be really quick for the opposition and they were struggling to get any Bat on ball against his bowling and he struck twice in his first spell as well. Gaurav was brought as 1st change from Vasi's end, and straight away troubled the batsmen with his flight and variations. He picked up 4 wickets in his spell of excellent left arm spin bowling. The other end was shared between Yahya who picked up 4 wickets as well, Ash Mavadia bowled well but went wicketless, Sachin who got 1 wicket (courtesy of a very good catch at first slip by Adnan Haq). Edmonton were all out for 97. After the teas, the mood was great and openers Ash Vyas and Janaka were all set to give WHCC a good start. However, things weren't as smooth as thought when Ash Vyas was adjudged LBW by their umpire (who defied the rules of all umpiring, and looked more like a JOKER, than an umpire). A total disgrace to league cricket to say the least. Janaka on the other hand was caught in an argument with their opening bowler and due to that confrontation lost his head and tried to swing at a straight ball and got bowled. WHCC

Page 7: Welcome to Wycombe House Cricket Club - Pitcherofiles.pitchero.com/clubs/41595/whcc-circular-july-19th_125976.pdfWelcome to Wycombe House Cricket Club 1’s, 3’s win & MDL smash

boys started to get worried as anytime a ball would hit the pad the finger would be raised. In the process of this fear, the batsmen became over causious and the footwork was gone and so were their wickets. WHCC struggling at 20-5 with Aamir and Lotia now at the crease. Determined Aamir and fighting Lotia decided to quieten the opposition and fight the momentum and bring it back into WHCC's favour. Every ball was watched, every single was judged properly, every shot attempted was well thought off. Nothing silly, nothing uppish, no hurry, just fight and fight and hang in there without giving the wicket away. The partnership was going well and WHCC reached 50 with the pair still there. Lotia had a rush of blood with the score at around 51 and attempted to clear mid off just to mistime the shot and was caught. WHCC heads fell again and Lotia was disgusted. Aamir however was there and a some hope still remained. However, Vasi struck gold when he took a gamble by sending the beast Yahya Khan in at number 8 to see if he can deliver some knockout punches and get close to the Edmonton total. And boy, Yahya Khan did not disappoint. He went wild in Afridi style from the word go, and started to dispatch the Edmonton bowlers to all parts of the ground. WHCC boys nervous on every ball Yahya faced just wanted him to stay there with Aamir. Every shot was cheered and every defensive shot was cheered more. Every boundary, every run, every shot brought us closer to a Win (which technically should have been a walk in the park) made harder by the blatant cheating by their umpire and some poor shot making by the batsmen. 9 now needed and Aamir gets out. Guess his dismissal? LBW again, but shockingly this time not by their umpire but our umpire Hassan Shah!!! Tension rising and Sachin the youngster joins Khan to face a nervous 5 balls still left in the over. Sachin defends every ball with a proper straight bat and the over comes to an end. On strike Yahya and the bowler bowls a wide. 8 needed, Yahya on strike, comes down the wicket to the medium pacer and creams it past him for a straight four and holds the pose for all to see. (This was more tendulkar than afridi). Next ball hoiks it down midwicket for another boundary (more afridi than tendulkar) and the WHCC boys go WILD, Yahya running towards the boys and boys running towards Yahya. Dramatic scenes at Edmonton and WHCC 3rd XI pull a victory from the jaws of defeat against Edmonton, weather, pitch and the Umpires. Great escapes don't come more exciting than this. This is why we love league cricket! WHCC 3rd XI GOT 10 POINTS AND ARE NOW JOINT 2nd IN THE LEAGUE. BRING ON ALEE PALEE 19th JULY. Boston Manor awaits you!!!

Guarav celebrating taking 4 wickets!! MOM – Yahya taking 4 wkts & scoring35*

Sunday 1st

Team -

Southall Town V/S WHCC - League Game Venue: BA concord Club Toss: Southall won the toss and chose to field first WHCC: 155-8 in 40 overs Southall: 156-5 in 26 overs Result: Southall won by 5 wickets After carrying the euphoria from the previous day with the 1s winning & 3s winning, the Sunday boys arrived at the BA Concord Club to compete against a strong Southall Town at their home ground. Toss was won by Southall and they put WHCC in to Bat. AB and Karan were sent in to open the innings. Karan looked solid until he tried to flick one on the leg side and was caught and short square leg. Mazhar came in at number 3 and looked aggressive. He hit a few boundaries and formed a decent 30 run partnership with AB before AB chopped one on his stumps to get bowled. Mazhar soon followed trying to smack every ball out of the ground. Number 4 Sukh hung around at one end, while the other end kept on losing wickets from the other end. With AB, Karan, Mazhar, Aamir, Yahya and then eventually Sukh all getting out the innings was only given some momentum by number 7 Hassan Hanif and number 8 Qasim. They both batted beautifully and put the Southall fielders under immense pressure by running quick singles and converting 1s into 2s and 2s into 3s. Running between the wickets did not come better than this, and definitely not seen this intensity and urgency on a Sunday game since a long time. Something all the other team mates can learn a lot from. Hanif scored 42 and Qasim 21*. A great 70 run partnership brought us back in the game and the total looked a bit respectable. WHCC ended on 155-8 in 40 overs. In reply, the Southall team looked very aggressive from the 1st over and opening bowlers Yahya and Ash Mavadia failed to make a breakthrough in the first 10 overs. Ash did create a lot of chances but not one was held by either the slips or the outfielders. With the runs coming thick and fast and the openers not able to break into the top order, Yahya and Ash both were taken off and Hashim Mailk and Karan were brought into the attack. Both looked to trouble the batsmen and Hashim duely was rewarded with a wicket for his great bowling when the opener chipped it straight at cover for Aamir to complete the catch. Karan on the other hand struck the other opener plumb in front. Hashim cleaned up another batsmen and Yahya although very stiff, threw the ball at rocket speed from the third man boundary straight into the stumps to create a fantastic Runout. With 4 down, their best batsmen came into bat and Karan cleaned him up with a great yorker. WHCC were on top at drinks with 5 of the Southall batsmen back in the pavillion with a little over 50 runs required. Hassan Hanif was brought in after drinks but was given a treatment by the Southall lower order batsmen and they scored 15 off his only over. Hashim continued from the other end when Lotia replaced Hanif. Lotia was treated probably worse than Hanif when we got hit for 18 off his over and the match was all but finished. With 9 runs needed to win, Hashim's last over was treated with consecutive boundaries & Southall managed to chase the Runs with overs to spare.

Wycombe House v Brentham (Middlesex Development Under -21 League) Venue: HOME Toss: WHCC won the toss and chose to field first

Brentham: 43 all out (Sachin 4 wkts, Aman 4 wkts & Marcus 2 wkts)

WHCC: 44-3

Result: WHCC win by 7 wkts – Ten points!!

On a bright sunny day, Whcc players alighted at their home ground on jersey road to face the fearsome Brentham, Whcc won the toss headed by Marcus elected to field first, skipper opened the bowling with Sachin and were looking fierce with the pace, swing and bounce that they were generating and caused troubles within the Brentham camp and got 6 quick wkts by giving away a mere 25 runs. (Sachin 4 wkts and Marcus 2 wkts)

Once their spells were finished came in the 6ft spinner who bowled beautifully and tied the runs down but was unlucky for not getting a wicket, on the other end came in the young Aman who stuck with great line and length and wrapped up the innings by bagging 4 wkts, all in all a great effort by the young guns of Wycombe House. Brentham – 43 all out

After a short break of 10 mins, Whcc came into bat. Cullen Brothers walked in to open the batting looking very confident to chase the target down quickly, Logan however being unlucky got out within the 1

st over and

Brentham spirits were high, than came in the Skipper Marcus who played some Flamboyant shots and the score was 25 in no time, Blake tried to follow Marcus footsteps and was unfortunately bowled on a good delivery,.

All in all WHCC chased the target down in less than 10 overs and celebrated a famous WHCC victory by 7 wkts.
