Mock Case Game

Mock Case Game: Cop Cars in Dubai

Audi is trying to win the police car contract in Dubai, which is currently held by BMW.

In order to win the contract, it must determine how many cars are sold to annually by BMW to the Government of Dubai to determine where it should position its contract price.

• There are 8000 police vehicles used in London, and 9000 in New York City

• Population of Dubai is 2.2M, New York City is 17M, and London is 14M

• The average BMW car life is 5 years

Facts We Have

Mock Case Game: Cop Cars in Dubai

• There are 8000 police vehicles used in London, and 9000 in New York City

• Population of Dubai is 2.2M, New York City is 17M, and London is 14M

• The average BMW car life is 5 years

Facts We HaveState Your AssumptionsDubai requirement for police cars is roughly similar

to New York and London

Pick your main metrics and approachExtrapolation is based on amount of cars in NY/LN

Estimate quick with round numbersCars per capita in NY: 9000/17M =~1 car/2000

peopleCars per capita in LN: 8000/15M=~ 1 car/2000

people

Assuming same proportion, Dubai may have 11,000 cars

Annual sales are 11,000/5 year life span =2,200 per year

Assess your approach and answer2K cars X 50K price estimate = $10M/year for contract

Keep exceptions and next steps in mindHarsher criminal sentences may mean fewer police carsBMW average life may be more or less than 5 years

Next Steps!
