In 1992, at age 17, she shot and severely injured Mary Jo Buttafuoco, who was the wife of her lover, Joey Buttafuoco.

Rodney King was the victim of police brutality by the Los Angeles Police Department. This incident sparked a tumultuous chain of events which would end with the Los Angeles riots in 1992.
