A top secret history. Byford on the Scarp has an impressive history, with the community once the site of the top secret Byford Naval Armament Depot, known officially as R.A.N 145.

Throughout WWII, trainloads of workers would leave Perth each morning for their destination on the Bunbury line, with their fellow passengers unaware that these men and women were engaged in handling shells, mines and bombs for the Royal Australian Navy. In fact, this war secret was so well-guarded, that the public were only made aware of R.A.N 145 after the war.

The depot was built in reaction to fears of an imminent Japanese invasion of Australia, with Byford chosen for the site due to its safe distance from the coast, as well as its established rail and road connections.

During the war, the depot supplied naval armament of all types to British and Allied ships, and was expanded to cater for gunnery equipment and mine assembly, averaging 200 mines per week. By the end of the war, about 250 men and women were employed at Byford, with the majority making the long train journey from Perth each day.

A community you’ll be proud of.

Maximise the value of your investment.

When it comes to making the most of your new home, it’s not just what’s on the inside that counts! To ensure you maximise the full potential of your investment, it’s important that you ensure your front garden and verge is kept neat and tidy at all times. This also helps to ensure the community looks fresh and inviting year-round, so everyone benefits.

Waterwise tips.

If you’re looking to enjoy a lush garden without the headaches of large water bills or maintenance, then a waterwise garden is the way to go! You can visit the Water Corporation website for a list of waterwise plant options that will thrive in the conditions at Byford on the Scarp.

Watering days.

Don’t forget the important rules around watering your garden. In Summer you will have set sprinkler days based on your house number, while in Winter a sprinkler ban will take effect. Don’t forget that you are responsible for keeping your front verge maintained and watered, too.

To find out your sprinkler days, visit: www.watercorporation.com.au/save-water/watering-days
