Welcome to new ANKA Program ManagerWe are delighted to introduce ANKA's new Program Manager - Laura MartinezOliveras. Laura has a decade of experience working in the arts and culture in
Australia and internationally. This includes 5 years in Alice Springs as the GeneralManager of Red Hot Arts Central Australia (RHACA) and more recently as theProject Manager of the Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC),
managing Parrtjima - A Festival in Light, a public event that celebrates IndigenousArts and Culture using the newest technologies in video projection and lights. Prior tothis she was the Cultural Advisor for the Consulate General of Spain in Melbourne. Laura was born in Barcelona, Spain. She has a a law degree from Pompeu FabraUniversity in Barcelona, a masters degree in Copyright and Intellectual Property Lawand a postgraduate diploma in Arts Management. Laura has consulted extensively
on copyright law for the arts in Australia and Spain and volunteers for ChaikuniInstitute, a non for profit that works to advance environmental and social justice by
empowering and partnering with Indigenous people in the Peruvian Amazon. Laura speaks Catalan, Spanish, English and French.

Farewell to Interim Program Manager Lorna MartinANKA thanks Lorna Martin for her great work and wishes her well for the future.
Lorna held the interim program manager position for a year over 2017/18 and workedon a number of projects including the ANKA Art Centre Sustainability Plan. She will
continue doing project work with ANKA.

At the 2017 ANKA Regional Meetings, Art Centres expressed a need for a textilesforum to discuss issues such as licencing and to share technical knowledge. ANKA
went ahead with the forum and it was held on the 27th and 28th of April at theMAGNT Theatrette in Darwin. 40 arts workers, artists, and managers attended from16 art centres, including Anindilyakwa Art, Babbarra Designs, Bula Bula Arts, Elcho
Island Arts, Injalak Arts, Jilamara Arts, Mangkaja Arts, Marrawuddi Gallery, MerrepenArts, Mimi Arts, Munupi Arts, Nagula Jarndu Designs, Ngukurr Arts, Tiwi Design,
Waringarri Arts, and Yarliyil Art Centre. The forum was facilitated by consultant DionTeasdale. Content included sessions exploring licencing, intellectual property, and
off-site printing, as well as a site visit to Raw Cloth and a panel discussion. The paneldiscussion was titled 'Indigenous textiles: a cultural product or a commercialproduct?', and panellists included Alan Keriniauia and Steve Anderson (Tiwi
Designs), Felicity Wright (Injalak Arts), Maxine Charlie (Nagula Jarndu Designs),Karen Rogers (Ngukurr Arts), Tim Growcott (independent screenprinter), Brigida
Stewart (Batchelor College), Claire Summers (Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair), and JayneNankivell (GYRACC).
