Dear FlikISD Team Members:

Every year I write a letter to mark the roll out of the year’s Be-a Star program. This letter is often meant to talk to associates as well as managers. So, you should be reading this aloud in your BAS roll out meeting and while you have everyone together, you may as well take your staff picture and get a part of Star 1 underway.

This program is written to make it as easy as possible to accomplish the business initiatives for the year. The initiatives listed here help move us all in the right direction.

Star 1 1. Read the roll-out letter (you can all do this one!) & take a full staff picture – we want tosee as many of those new uniforms as possible. 2. Webtrition Training3. Platinum Service Phase 2: The Rewards4. Nominate!! You can nominate outstanding hourly associate or salaried manager or aunit that works together well.

Star 2 1. Revved Up Demo2. BAS Website Sign Up3. Diversity and Inclusion4. Nominate!! You can nominate outstanding hourly associate or salaried manager or aunit that works together well.

Star 3 1. SEED Chat2. Compass in the Community initiative3. Nominate!! You can nominate outstanding a regional Account of the year.

This is your opportunity to get involved. What can you do? Can you think of a great diversity and inclusion idea? Do you have an idea for Compass in the Community? Everyone can nominate an associate or manager (you do not need a manager’s approval to nominate yourself or someone else). Nominate each other! Nominate yourself, toot your own horn!

We look forward to hearing about how everyone got involved this year and reading all of your nominations. Have a great year!

Read the roll-out letter (you can all do this one!) & Take a Staff Photo

At the next upcoming staff meeting, roll out the 2016 Be-A-star program. Read aloud the President’s message and get support from your team. Talk about what each associate can do to help your unit complete the program.

Since the whole team is already together for your staff meeting and roll-out, get that staff picture completed. Make sure everyone is in uniform and positioned where we can see everyone, uniforms are neat and clean, with no aprons or hair nets. You can also take a second picture with your group having fun – maybe holding utensils or making funny faces. This doesn’t have to be a boring task – make it fun!

How do I get credit? Email your photo to the [email protected] email and you will receive credit when the email is received.

Webtrition Training

Webtrition is Compass Group’s proprietary, best in class, web-based recipe and menu management system. This online tool is a quality recipe resource, as all recipes are tested prior to entry. When used to its full capability, Webtrition maintains standards and controls food cost, as well as provides nutritional information. Webtrition can generate a variety of reports to help you in your business, from simple reports on multiple yields of recipes to shopping lists.

In light of the FDA ruling mandating that calories be labeled on particular items (date TBD), and in light of the need for a robust recipe source that can help drive consistency for Flik Independent School Dining, assigned staff will be trained on the system.

As we move forward, this will be standard in our sector.

How do I get credit? Training is currently being organized by district, as in-person training is preferable. There will also be Web-based training available. Specific information will be sent via district. Make sure you sign up for trainings as soon as they become available (TBD) and complete any sign-in information required of you as this is how your attendance will be recorded. Once you have completed your training, you will receive credit for this component.

Platinum Service Phase 2: The Rewards

Platinum Service, our customer service program, is moving into Phase 2: The Rewards. This year you can begin to award your associates for going above and beyond, showing Platinum Service!

When you witness or are told about an associate displaying Platinum Service, you can award that associate in your weekly meetings. During weekly meetings Platinum Service rewards bucks can be given to the associate showing the best display of platinum service that week (or whatever criteria you assign). Associates can redeem bucks once they accumulate 25, 50, 75 or 100. Bucks can only be redeemed in these amounts. Website and redemption information will be provided during training.

How to get credit? Attend the Platinum Service: The Rewards Webex training held this school year. Dates TBD. Your attendance will be used for credit. Make sure you sign up for trainings as soon as they become available and complete any sign-in information required of you as this is how your attendance will be recorded. Once you have completed the Webex, you will receive credit for this component.

Complete a Revved Up Demo

Revved Up recipes are popular items that pack an extra nutritional punch! This concept is an application of recipe enhancement, adding nutritious ingredients or making appropriate substitutions that make sense – without compromising the integrity of the recipe. The goal is that familiar recipes taste and appear as they normally would, but have an improved nutritional profile. The goal is to celebrate and highlight the nutritious ingredients, not hide them.

Conduct a Revved Up Recipe front of house demonstration. Unit chef should be stationed at a table or action station to conduct the demo. Demo should be conducted for each scheduled meal period. Recipe should be implemented into regular daily menu for that day with tasting samples offered. When possible, coordinate audio and visual equipment with school to improve communication. Advertise each Revved Up Recipe demo at least two weeks in advance and post on your menus on mySchoolDining.

Equipment may vary per recipe. Suggested equipment is listed below: • 8-foot table, white linen table cloth• Table runner, available from Chilewich, can be ordered through the merchandisingcatalog • Induction cooker or propane cassette burner• Cooking pots, pans & utensils as dictated in recipe• Wooden cutting board & knives (ensure student safety; do NOT leave knives ordangerous equipment unattended at any time) • Small bowls, plates and ramekins for recipe ingredients.• Large platter or bowl for finished recipe• Soufflé cups, small plates, forks, spoons and napkins for tastings

How do I get credit? Upload a picture of your Revved Up demonstration. Be sure to capture the set up pre demo, the signage and during the demo. Upload pictures to the BAS website. We will use as many pictures as possible in new business proposals and social media, be sure aprons are clean, gloves are being worn and food pictures look appealing.

Dimensions of Diversity

Diversity is the presence of differences that make each person unique that can be used to differentiate groups and people from one another. Many think of gender, race, ethnicity and age when they think of diversity, but there are various dimensions of diversity beyond those that we can see. The following diagram visually depicts this concept quite well:

➢ Primary- makes up our personality ➢ Secondary- reflects our lifestyle choices ➢ Organizational- represents the roles we chose ➢ Cultural- reveals how we’re influenced by our cultural experiences

Remember, no one dimension is more important than the other. All aspects of diversity are important and worth consideration.
