16th Annual
Summergrass San Diego Oh Brother, That’s Good Bluegrass!
Summergrass does not wish to impose too many rules and regulations or to limit anyone’s
enjoyment of the festival, but in order to ensure that EVERYONE has as much fun & comfort as
possible, here are a few items you should know…
Workshop Area: All music workshops will be held in the Assembly Building this year. The
museum has changed the Farmhouse area, which was our workshop area in the past. Please
note this change.
Chairs: If a chair is vacant during any stage show, it is perfectly ok to sit in it. If your chair is
occupied upon your return, please kindly ask the person to give it up. You may leave your chair
in the audience area for the entire festival without having to bring it every morning.
Audience Area: For everyone’s safety, please do not sit in the fire lane directly in front of the
stage. And no smoking, no pets, no loud chit chat during performances (please respect the
people sitting around you who are here to enjoy the music). Umbrellas are not allowed as they
block other’s views. Dancing, hula hoops, etc. (which can distract from the stage show) are ok,
but only in the designated area in the back of the audience area (again, be courteous to your
neighbors). Videotaping or taping of any kind during the music performances is not permitted.
No glass containers, alcohol or drugs in audience area. Any person clearly under the influence of
alcohol or drugs will be immediately escorted from the festival grounds with no refund.
Campground Area: No parking in designated fire lanes. Pets are OK in the campground
area only. Owners must control pets, prevent them from barking, and perform P.P.P.U. (Pet
Poop Pick Up). Generators may be used from 6 am to 10 pm. NO Campfires. Sorry, no showers
available this year.
Shuttles: Shuttles will be available the vendor area during Summergrass.
Lost & Found: Will be near the Club booths.

Bands for 2018
3
BLUEGRASS ETC. No other band says “Summergrass” like Bluegrass Etc. and we proudly welcome them back for 2018! Bluegrass Etc., is known worldwide for their stellar music and stage antics. They are both entertaining and masters of their instruments. Dennis Caplinger on banjo and fiddle joined by John Moore who plays a stunning guitar and mandolin, and the legendary Steve Spurgin on bass. Together they perform bluegrass (and etc.) to the delight of their audiences. Welcome back!
ALAN BIBEY & GRASSTOWNE Alan Bibey & Grasstowne are one of the hottest and most energetic bands touring today! DJs and fans everywhere and of all ages love the unique sound of Alan Bibey & Grasstowne as they combine tradition with hard driving, progressive bluegrass. “I think of them as ‘ultra-grass’, truly an all-star band with four strong singers and the sharpest of bluegrass instrumental skills. This is a band that deserves to be heard far and wide.” - Pete Wernick of Hot Rize. This great band will also be our Kids Camp teaching faculty. What a great opportunity for our kids to learn from these pros! Summergrass welcomes Alan Bibey & Grasstowne. A real treat!
JOE MULLINS & the RADIO RAMBLERS Summergrass welcomes Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers in their debut performance. “Joe Mullins is a classic character who could slip through a time machine to about 1961 and move around comfortably. And he’d be among the coolest cats there in his Ohio home, fronting
a bluegrass band and owning AM radio stations. Which is what he does now. And that voice! Whether speaking or singing, it’s arresting
and comforting at the same time. The band was awesome, with speed or tenderness where called for, in the vein of Doyle Lawson
and J.D. Crowe. Their take on a Grandpa Jones song called “Fallen Leaves” was just vocally stunning. This is the true sound of bluegrass
renown. A brilliant band.” - Craig Havinghurst of Music City Roots.
THE SCROGGINS BROTHERS The Scroggins Brothers are fronted by internationally acclaimed two-time
National Banjo champion Jeff Scroggins. Their distinct style is immediately recognizable due to Jeff’s unique and diverse range of influences that marry second and third generation bluegrass, delivering a unique experience that captivates audiences and keeps them guessing. Their show is a powerful,
high mountain “bluegrass explosion” that features world-class banjo and mandolin playing, incredible vocals, a solid and energetic rhythm and an easy stage banter that has delighted listeners all over the world. Catch their show!
