Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
On behalf of the entire STAR staff, welcome to the 2017 Summer STAR Program. Our mission is to

The STAR Program is divided into two sub-groups: Academic STAR and Enrichment STAR.
Academic STAR includes Ready Set Kindergarten and Oceans of Fun 1. These classes were

classroom. Students may register for any number and any combination of weeks for these classes. A
new theme will be introduced each week. Students may also combine a week or more of Academic
STAR with a week or more of Enrichment STAR. These classes are taught by certified teachers and
educational assistants.
Enrichment STAR offers a variety of courses for students entering kindergarten through 6th grade.
Courses are offered as full-morning classes, 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. There is a supervised snack break.

English, Mathematics, Social Studies
July 10 - August 3
Monday through Thursday ~ 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM Franklin High School
Taught by FHS Faculty
Tuition: $225.00 for one course High school academic support courses are available in three content areas: Mathematics,
English, and Social Studies. Students who have a minimum grade for the year of 50 or high are
eligible for summer school and the opportunity to remediate a failing grade. Summer school is a
4-week, 40-hour program. The summer school grade will represent a fifth quarter grade.
Students are allowed one documented absence within the 4-week program. Additional absences
would be granted at the discretion of the Coordinator predicated on the percentage of work
completed by the student. If the student is on track to complete and pass the course on time,
he/she may be awarded a 2nd or 3rd day off. If the student is not on track to complete and
pass the course, the additional time off would not be awarded.
These academic courses may also be taken for preview purposes, to prepare for the upcoming
school year. If taken for preview, no grade is given and the student does not need to meet the
attendance requirements.
Courses within the three content areas include:
Mathematics: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus
English: English 9, 10, and 11
Social Studies: US History 1, US History 2, and World History
Franklin Public Schools uses PLATO, a web-based academic program to provide courses and
content specific to the needs of each student. This is an exemptive program that enables the
student to focus on his/her areas of need and to work at his/her own pace. Certified content-
specific Franklin Public Schools faculty members provide additional support in the classroom.
