Parent(s) are responsible for the behavior and direct supervision of their children in all areas of the club, except when the child is participating in a class or program supervised by PLF staff. These supervised activities, classes and programs are listed in this booklet. 1. Direct supervision of a child means that the child is

close enough to the parent for quick physical contact and/or voice contact at normal levels.

2. Children left unattended in the facility may be escorted to the age appropriate room until retrieved by a parent. Applicable childcare charges will apply.

3. Children in paid membership who are under 13 years of age may enter the club and use the lower level of the facility when accompanied and directly supervised by their parent or legal guardian over the age of 18.

4. Children under 14 years are not allowed in the Fitness Center (2nd Level) unless they have earned their Youth Certification.

Youth classes that take place on land are considered drop-in classes and do not require pre-registration at the beginning of a session. As you check your child into the age appropriate room, simply sign their name under the classes you wish for them to participate in that day on the Class Sign-In Sheet. Children are not required to attend every class and may participate as often as they desire. Class sign-in is on a daily basis with a maximum of 12 participants per class and a minimum of 3 participants per class. Classes that do not fulfill the minimum requirement will be postponed that day. (Swimming lessons DO require pre-registration. See the aquatics section on p.16.)

Taijutsu An unarmed self-defense class derived from the Japanese word that means “skill with the body.” If you’re a beginner or have had martial arts training, Taijutsu has something to offer everyone. Research has found that most self-defense situations begin standing and will eventually go to the ground. It is the balanced martial artist that will have the greatest chance of surviving a confrontation. Taijutsu was established with this in mind. A student of Taijutsu will have a solid foundation in all of the different aspects of unarmed fighting. Taijutsu incorporates the most practical techniques that have proven effective in real life situations. For Taijutsu questions contact Joan Beck.
