WELCOME TO OUR SEVEN DAY PRAYER AND FASTING Fasting remains one of the most challenging but spiritually rewarding Christian disciplines. This week we begin our corporate fast as a church every day from 6am to 6pm. Our prayers will focus on our personal lives, our church and our country. HOW TO FAST Set aside a specific time for prayer each day. Remember fasting without prayer is nothing more than a hunger strike. Your prayer time could be early in the morning or late at night. Alternatively, you may want to get to work / school earlier each morning, look for some time at lunch-break or any other time during the day to dedicate to prayer. You may also want to do it together with the family and spend time to pray before family meal times. Over these next 7 days, also think through how you can bless others in need. Acts of mercy and kindness towards the poor are an important part of fasting. If you are abstaining from food, then give the food, or the cost of your meals to the needy around you. Our Social Justice department can guide you on where to be a blessing. HOW TO MANAGE YOUR FAST During the fast, you may feel somewhat weaker than normal especially the first few days; you may feel tired and irritable or even get headaches. Lightening your workload and cutting down on strenuous exercises is advisable. This will help to maintain your energy level and morale. Fasting is not just about denying yourself food; it is exchanging the needs of the physical body with those that are spiritual. Spend time in prayer and reading God’s word. This will be very essential for entering into more intimate fellowship with God. Fasting is a time of heightened spiritual devotion, but be aware that Satan will do everything he can to pull you away from prayer and scripture reading. Your motive in fasting must be to glorify God, not to have an emotional experience, and not to attain personal happiness. When your motives are right, God will honor your seeking heart and bless your time with Him in a very special way. The Lord bless you as you begin this year in prayer and fasting. WELCOME TO OUR SEVEN DAY PRAYER AND FASTINGFasting remains one of the most challenging but spiritually rewarding Christian disciplines. This week we begin our corporate fast as a church every day from 6am to 6pm. Our prayers will focus on our personal lives, our church and our country.

HOW TO FASTSet aside a specific time for prayer each day.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR FASTDuring the fast, you may feel somewhat weaker than normal especially the first few days; you may feel tired and irritable or even get headaches.

DAY 1 – MONDAY 25TH JANUARY 2016Begin by thanking the LORD for his faithfulness in the past year and reflect on your personal goals for the New Year. Psalms 37:5-6 “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun”.

Commit everything to the Lord: your spiritual growth, physical health, social life, career and professional life.

Thank the Lord for the Nairobi Chapel, the pastors, the congregation and all the lives that have been impacted through various ministries last year.

Commit the Church to the Lord and pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding as our vision to grow deep and reach wide continues. Pray for the goal to plant 300 churches both locally and in the gateway cities of the world. Pray for the current 5 Church plants in Nairobi, 11 Trinity Church plants within Kenya/ Africa. Pray for this years goal to plant 20 Trinity Churches and 90 Faith Ministry Churches in peri-urban areas.

Thank the Lord for Kenya, may the words of our national anthem, ‘peace and liberty, plenty be found in our boarders’ be evident all through this year. Pray for the various political leaders and commit the President, Deputy President, and all arms of the national government.

DAY 2 – TUESDAY 26TH JANUARY 2016John 15:7 “… If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you”.

John 15:1 says Jesus Christ is the vine and God is the gardener; we the churches are the branches that should bear fruit. Spiritual fruit are new believers - those who begin a relationship with Jesus. Pray for the various disciple-making ministries at Nairobi Chapel: Children, Youth, Plug-In, eGroups and even Church Plants to bear spiritual fruit.

As a nation we have enjoyed peace and the freedom of worship. Pray that this will continue and that we will not take this freedom for granted. Also pray for a continued good relationship between the Church and the State. Pray for the consultations that continue with regard to the new regulations governing religious organizations.

DAY 3 - WEDNESDAY 27TH JANUARYIsaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Let us pray for the Youth Ministry at Nairobi Chapel. 43% of youth in Kenya are under the age of 15, while 76% of the population is under the age of 35. The youth and children’s ministries in 2016 would like to reach out to 20 schools in our neighborhood. Pray for the discipleship strategy and for good partnerships with various schools and institutions. Pray not only for real spiritual transformation but also for economic empowerment for the youth in Kenya.

DAY 4 THURSDAY 28TH January 20161 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”.

Today, pray for issues in your life that may need healing and restoration. Pray according to James 5:16 and take time to recall sins committed against yourself, against others and against God.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and, I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”.

Pray on behalf of the local church in Kenya – pray against any wickedness that has been planned or executed in the land, against ethnic or religious tensions and ask God to forgive our sin and to heal our land.

DAY 5 – FRIDAY 29TH JANUARY 20161 John 4:16 “... God is love,...”

God loves you, so ask God to show you his matchless, extravagant love and ask him to help you to see the things that hinder you from seeing him as the God of love. Pray for our Plug-In program; a ten-week discipleship transformation experience that aims at connecting people to God, Church, Community and Destiny. Pray for the Man Enough program that seeks to empower men to take up responsibility at home, church and in society. Pray for families at Chapel that are going through relational crises, financial crises and physical challenges of health.

Psalms 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”

A country without God will crumble from evil and corruption on the inside. Pray for a conscience that comes from the fear of the Lord.

DAY 6 – SATURDAY 30TH JANUARY 2016Philippians 3:13 “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead”.

Identify the things that may distract you and pray to the Lord to remove them or give you ways to go around them. Are there things in the past year (e.g. failures & guilt) that are holding you back?

Take them to the Lord in prayer and then resolve to look ahead in 2016.

Matthew 19:26 “... with God all things are possible.”

As Nairobi Chapel we aim to reach 1 Million and to disciple 100,000 people by 2020. Pray that God will enable you to be part of this great vision and mission. Ask Him to bring to mind family and friends who you can pray for. Pray for God to provide opportunities for you to share your journey of faith.

As we look to another election year in 2017, pray for restraint and soberness among the political class. Pray that the Electoral Commission will execute their mandate according to the constitution.

DAY 7 – SUNDAY 31st JANUARY 20162 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

This is the last day of prayer and fasting - Thank the Lord for his sufficient grace and thank the Lord for a renewed spiritual, mental, emotional and physical self as you have prayed and fasted. Also pray that you will continue with the spiritual discipline of prayer and fasting.

Pray that the Church will continue to uphold the Word through correct teaching and doctrine. Pray for authentic love and unity to be evident in the Body of Christ. Pray that the Church of Jesus Christ all over the world will be a strong witness because of the love we have for each other.

Prayer for security in Kenya - Pray for the KDF, for the security agencies in Kenya and the families who are currently grieving the loss of there loved ones in Somalia. Psalm 91 reminds us that security is assured for those who trust in God. Pray that Kenya will find safety under the protective wings of the Lord.
