Kindergarten Team
• Students may be dropped off no earlier than 8:00 a.m. They will go to their classroom.
• Tardy bell rings at 8:20 a.m. Please make sure that your child is in the classroom before the tardy bell rings.
• You may walk your student to class for the first 3 days of school.
• Dismissal is at 3:40 p.m.
School Hours
• If you pre-purchased your supplies, your teacher let you know earlier.
• If not pre-purchased, please follow recommended school supply list to purchase supplies.
• Please DO NOT label supplies with your child’s name.
Backpacks• Large enough to hold folders and
a library book• Easy to open and close• No rolling backpacks PLEASE!

Dressing For School
• Policy is listed on KISD website• Shorts, dresses, and skirts must be mid thigh
or longer. Girls are encourage to wear shorts under skirts and dresses for PE and recess.
• No spaghetti straps or tank tops without a cover up or shirt worn underneath
• No bare tummies or backs• Elastic pants/shorts are best at the beginning
of the year…remember potty time • Flat, closed-toe shoes with Velcro or that
lace up are much safer than sandals and flip flops in helping prevent injuries.
Extra ClothingPlease pack an extra set of clothing that is LABELED, including underwear and socks, in a plastic bag for your little onethat is seasonally changed out. Leave it in his/her backpack. It is comforting to have your own clothes in case of an accident or spills.
Transportation• Always send a SIGNED note if method of
transportation changes. Emails can NOT be used as a way to change your child’s transportation.
• We strongly recommend the mode of transportation be kept consistent day to day.
• Keep the transportation number pinned on your child’s backpack daily for the entire year.
Car Riders• All students are assigned a car rider
number (the transportation tag).• Each child will have a colored number
tag attached to his/her backpack that corresponds to the colored number you will hang in your car.
Bus Riders• Students who are eligible may ride the bus
to school and/or home from school.• Kindergarten students sit at the front of the
bus with other kindergarteners.• You can find bus information by going to
www.katyisd.org and find the bus link under the Highlights section.

Day Care• Your daycare provider will pick your
child up at school.• Please notify your daycare provider if
your child is absent.
Walker/Biker – Fine Arts Hall• Children will exit the building from
the doors to the left of the front office, closest to the marquee.
• Parents MUST bring their car rider tag to pick up their child.
• Please hold up your car rider number for the teacher to see, and the teacher will send out your child.
Walker/Biker – Kindergarten Hall• Children will exit the building from the
doors at the end of the Kindergarten area.
• Parents MUST bring their car rider tag to pick up their child.
• Please hold up your car rider number for the teacher to see, and the teacher will send out your child.
Walker/Biker – Either Exit• If you would like an older sibling from
2nd - 5th grade to pick up your kindergartener, a signed note is required. This will allow your children to be released home without a parent at pick up.
Lunch• Cost of lunch $2.25• 30 minutes each day• Students will be
expected to get their own tray.• I.D. badges are used to purchase lunches.• Cafeteria monitors and volunteers are in
the cafeteria each day to help with lunch.• We ask that you not come eat with your
child for the first two weeks of school.
Lunch money• Parents may pay in advance for the week or
month(s) online with MealpayPlus. The link can be found on katyisd.org.

baggie or envelope labeled with your child’s first and last name and “lunch money.”
• Ice cream is available to purchase for $1.00 on Fridays. Parents need to notify the teacher if you are allowing your child to purchase.
Conferences• Conferences will begin in October/
November. This will give us adequate time to observe and assess your child’s academic abilities.
• Conferences are a time to discuss your child’s kindergarten progress. During the meeting, we will identify goals for your child, specific skills to focus on as well as ways you can assist your child at home.
• You may request a conference at any time.• Your child’s teacher will send out a sign up.
Birthdays• It is required that birthday treats be store
bought and peanut free.• Typically, treats will be eaten during our
recess period. Teachers will distribute birthday treats; therefore, treats should be easy to distribute. Cookies, donuts, and mini cupcakes are strongly encouraged for treats.
• Students may not bring/deliver party favors or birthday invitations at school per KISD policy. Please check into student/class directory through PTA paperwork.
• If your child has a fever of 100.0 or higher, is vomiting, or having diarrhea, they MUST stay home.
• Students must be symptom free (without medication) for 24 hours before returning to school.
• Please help your child start each day off right by ensuring he/she gets enough rest and eats a healthy
breakfast.• If your child is going to be out sick, please
call our ADA clerk (281-234-3805), and let her know.
Infectious Diseases• Please call the nurse (281-234-3825) if
your child has been diagnosed with a contagious condition such as strep throat, chickenpox, pink eye, lice, impetigo, ringworm, flu, or has vomiting and/or diarrhea.
Medicines • Children may not carry medicine with them at school
-not even cough drops. If your child needs medicine at school, send a note completed by a parent or the physician plus the medicine in its original container. You or your child can drop it off in the clinic before going to class. Three times a day medications are not given at school. All doses can be given at home. This was determined by Pediatricians in the area and is a District Policy.

Daily Communication Folders• A plastic folder was included in school supplies if
you purchased through the school. • This folder will be sent home daily to communicate
behavior. Please initial daily so we know that you are aware of what is happening at school.
• All important papers as well as your child’s work will come home daily. Please check AND empty the folder each day!
• If you have notes for the teacher, please place them in the zipper pouch located in folder.
- PLEASE put name (first and last) on envelope/ baggie if sending money.
Report Cards• Your child will receive a report card
4 times throughout the year.• Kindergarten receives grades of S,
N, or U for skills tested.• Any skill that is not mastered during
a grading period will be retested throughout the year.
• When report cards are senthome, please review, sign and return in provided envelope.
Seesaw App
Seesaw is an Interactive Learning Journal that allows parents to be more actively involved into
their child everyday learning. It is also a way for teacher to share a window in to the classroom.
