Welcome to Holy Trinity Church, Prestwood for our Online Worship this

morning as we celebrate the tenth Sunday after Trinity.

Holy Trinity, Prestwood is your parish church serving Prestwood and Great

Kingshill. We come to church every Sunday at 9.30am.

Here we are invited to celebrate God's love for all people, rest in his

presence and go out empowered to live our everyday lives.

In our worship we remove the barriers that separate us from God's love

and build up the ties that bind us as a loving community.

We also like to enjoy ourselves, and there's lots going on!

We believe in an Inclusive church—a church which does not discriminate,

on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health,

physical ability, race or sexuality. We believe in Church which welcomes

and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally

faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and

which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how

wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.

Private prayer of preparation

O Almighty God, who by thy holy apostle has taught us to set our

affection on things above: grant us so to labour in this life as ever to

be mindful of our citizenship in those heavenly places where our

Saviour Christ has gone before.

A Book of Common Prayer, South Africa

Greeting and Welcome

The president says

The Lord is here.

All: His Spirit is with us.

The president welcomes and introduces the service

Prayer of Preparation

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name;

through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Hymn

(CH4 533)

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?

Will you go where you don't know and never be the same?

Will you let my love be shown? Will you let my name be known,

Will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?

Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?

Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare?

Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?

Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?

Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen,

and admit to what I mean in you and you in me?

Will you love the "you" you hide if I but call your name?

Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?

Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around,

through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?

Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name.

Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.

In your company I'll go where your love and footsteps show.

Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

John L. Bell (b.1949) & Graham Maule (b.1958)

Prayers of Penitence

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ to save us from

our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life.

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God's

commandments and to live in love and peace with all.

Most merciful God,

Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

we confess that we have sinned

in thought, word and deed.

We have not loved you with our whole heart.

We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.

In your mercy

forgive what we have been,

help us to amend what we are,

and direct what we shall be;

that we may do justly,

love mercy,

and walk humbly with you, our God.

Amen.

The president says

Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you,

pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all

goodness, and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen

The Gloria in Excelsis

The Collect

Lord of heaven and earth, as Jesus taught his disciples to be persistent in

prayer, give us patience and courage never to lose hope, but always to bring

our prayers before you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word

Isaiah 56:1,6-8

Thus says the Lord: Maintain justice, and do what is right, for soon my

salvation will come, and my deliverance be revealed.

And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, to minister to him, to

love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the sabbath,

and do not profane it, and hold fast my covenant— these I will bring to my

holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt-

offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be

called a house of prayer for all peoples. Thus says the Lord God, who gathers

the outcasts of Israel, I will gather others to them besides those already

gathered.

This is the word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

The Gospel Reading

The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St Matthew

All: Glory to you, O Lord.

Matthew 15:21-28

Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Just then

a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, ‘Have

mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.’ But

he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying,

‘Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.’ He answered, ‘I was sent only

to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.’ But she came and knelt before him,

saying, ‘Lord, help me.’ He answered, ‘It is not fair to take the children’s food

and throw it to the dogs.’ She said, ‘Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the

crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.’ Then Jesus answered her, ‘Woman,

great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.’ And her daughter was

healed instantly.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to you, O Christ.

The Sermon

The Creed

Let us declare our faith in God:

We believe in God the Father,

from whom every family

in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son,

who lives in our hearts through faith,

and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit,

who strengthens us

with power from on high.

We believe in one God;

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The Intercessions

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father

During the prayers:

Lord, in your mercy…

All: …hear our prayer.

At the end of the prayers:

Merciful Father…

All: …accept these prayers

for the sake of your Son

our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Page 8: Welcome to Holy Trinity Church, Prestwood for our Online ......but humble and riding on a donkey— on a colt, the foal of a donkey. The Lord says, “I will remove the war chariots

- 8 -

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Amen.

Exposition and Adoration

Through our worship, let us come as close to Jesus as we can, praying that he

will seal in us all that is of the Spirit. So I invite you now in the name of God

to be with Jesus and to be open to the Spirit’s work in you.

Together, we make our spiritual communion

as we open our hearts and welcome Christ’s presence in us.

Let us pray.

Lord, let us gaze upon the mystical body of Jesus our Lord and Saviour, for we

are very members incorporate in the mystical body of your son, which is the

blessed company of all faithful people.

Broken for me, broken for you,

the Body of Jesus broken for you.

He offered his body, he poured out his soul,

Jesus was broken that we might be whole.

You have given them bread from heaven.

All: Having in itself all delight.

Lord Jesus Christ,

you gave us the Eucharist

as the memorial of your suffering and death.

May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood

help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the

kingdom

where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

The Peace

We are the Body of Christ.

In the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Let us then pursue all

that makes for peace and builds up our common life.

The peace of the Lord be always with you

All: And also with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

Hymn

(NEH 439)

Praise to the Holiest in the height,

and in the depth be praise;

in all his words most wonderful,

most sure in all his ways!

O loving wisdom of our God!

When all was sin and shame,

a second Adam to the fight

and to the rescue came.

O generous love! that he who smote

in man for man the foe,

the double agony in man

For man should undergo.

And in the garden secretly,

and on the cross on high,

should teach his brethren, and inspire

to suffer and to die.

Praise to the Holiest in the height,

and in the depth be praise;

in all his words most wonderful,

most sure in all his ways!

John Henry Newman (1801-1890)

The notices are given.

The Blessing

The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds

in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and

the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be

among you and remain with you always.

All: Amen

Let us go in peace to love and serve the Lord.

All: In the name of Christ. Amen

GREAT HAMPDEN AND HOLY TRINITY NOTICES:

BENEFICE NEWS

THE RECTOR IS GOING ON SABBATICAL I am taking a full sabbatical this

autumn, the first one since I was ordained in 2004. I shall be on sabbatical from

September 13-December 13. (Though making a sneaky return for Kevin's ordination

and first mass, and a couple of rescheduled weddings.) Hopefully COVID restrictions

won't get in the way too much. Every ten years licensed clergy and lay ministers can

take a three-month sabbatical. This sustained period away from normal duties

promotes professional development and personal enrichment.

I intend to think a lot about the theology of exposition, adoration and benediction

within the new and often virtual framework of the pandemic, and what the future of

the Eucharist is going to be. That's in the light of our own experience in the benefice,

and modern catholic expressions of Christianity such as On Fire Mission.

I'm confident that between the PCC, Kevin, Nigel and the staff team everyone will be

well looked after during the autumn. We will have a robust support plan in place, and

we'll know what our direction of travel will be despite the uncertainty that the

pandemic brings. And I will definitely be looking forward to Christmas when I get

back!

OUTDOOR SERVICES IN SEPTEMBER We are planning on having two outdoor

services in September. These will be on September 6th - Family Service for the start

of term and September 20th - Kevin's First Mass. They will be at 9.30am in the

churchyard of Holy Trinity, Prestwood. We intend to do a basic live-stream of these

services, so there are three ways you can participate:

1) Come along with chairs, and arrange yourselves in the marquee or the churchyard

in good socially distanced order. No need to book in advance, it's a free-for-all.

2) Book one of the 'social bubble' benches in the church to watch the stream on the

screen.

Book inside the church tickets for Kevin's First Mass www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/kevins-

first-mass-tickets-116097309177

3) Watch online.

Communion will be available to all present—in the churchyard or in church.

KEVIN’S PRIESTING On September 19 Kevin will be ordained priest. This will,

of course, not happen in the usual way and we will not all be travelling to the service

together. Details are still being finalised, but we think the service will happen in

Buckingham and will be streamed online. Sunday September 20th will be Kevin’s

First Mass at 9.30am. See the above notice for details of the service on 20th

September.

ASHES GARDEN MEMORIAL - WE'RE GETTING CLOSE! We have passed

the £17,000 mark in our Ashes Garden Appeal! Although we set out to raise up to

£25000, that included a contingency and we have heard from our stone mason that if

we are able to place the order before October his original quote (from two and a half

years ago) will still be valid. That means we have only to raise the last £3,700 to

complete this project. Whilst we are still seeking grant funding we really hope that

we will be able to get there by the autumn through people's generosity. If you are able

to contribute to this Fitting Memorial for the People of Prestwood now is the time!

You can find out more and make a donation here
