A Message From Holy Cross Staff…

Christmas Blessings to All!

Once again, the Advent Season is winding down and the Christmas Season is upon us. We pray that you had a blessed Advent, that you were able to make it to confession, found some special spiritual reading and taught your children or grandchildren the true meaning of Christmas, mixing it with lots of fun, too. This is a special time, and we want to wish special Christmas blessings to all of you from all of us.

The Joy of Welcoming People to Our Home

We all know how it feels

when we are invited to

someone’s home and the

host greets us with an

excited “Welcome! We’re

so happy you could come.”

It’s the same at a parish. I hope you’re taking time to sign

up to greet at our Christmas Masses. It’s so important that

doors are opened for people and we welcome them with a

big smile and a “Merry Christmas, and Welcome!”

Greeters, Ushers and Ministers of the Eucharist might be the

only Jesus someone sees for days, weeks or months, so let’s

be Jesus to these people through our smiles and our

welcoming actions.

Last Year’s Christmas Eve Message

From Pope Francis

Last year, Pope Francis rang in his first Christmas at the Vatican with a Christmas Eve Mass preaching a message of love and forgiveness.

"On this night, let us share the joy of the Gospel. God loves us. He so loves us that he gave us his son to be our brother, to be light in our darkness. To us the Lord

repeats, 'Do not be afraid,' ... And I, too, repeat, do

not be afraid,'" the Pope said.

"Our Father is patient. He loves us, he gives us Jesus to guide us on the way which leads to the promised land. Jesus is the light who brightened the darkness. Our Father forgives always. He is our peace and light."

He called on the throngs gathered at St. Peter's Basilica to cast aside hatred. "God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. Yet on the part of the people, there are times of both light and darkness, fidelity and infidelity, obedience and rebellion, times of being a pilgrim people, and times of being a people adrift," the Pope said. "In our personal history, too, there are both bright and dark moments, lights and shadows. If we love God and our brothers and sisters, we walk in the light. But if our heart is closed, if we are dominated by pride, deceit and self-seeking, then darkness falls within us, and around us. Whoever hates his brother -- writes the Apostle John -- is in the darkness; he walks in the darkness, and does not know the way to go, because the darkness has blinded his eyes."

Beautiful New Bows on the Christmas Wreaths

Thank you to three wonderful ladies who anonymously volunteered their time to make new, crisp bows for the Christmas wreaths. The wreaths look amazing and will certainly make the church look festive during the Christmas Season for years to come. God

bless you for your hard work and for your love of the Church.

DECEMBER 21, 2014 FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT 5 Raffle calendar winners will be in next week’s bulletin.

Allow God to Work if Your Marriage Needs Help

If your marriage is in serious trouble, please pray about attending this very powerful Retrouvaille (Retro-vy) week-end. Retrovaille helps couples through difficult times in their

marriages, even extreme difficulties. For confidential information, or to register for the January 16-18 weekend at the Redemptorist Retreat Center in Oconomowoc, call 1-800-470-2230 or visit www.retrouvaille.org. Many marriages have been saved through Retrouvaille.

Ministers of the Eucharist - Some Reminders

Thank you to all of our Ministers of the Eucharist who step up each week to help distribute the precious Body and Blood of Christ. It is truly an honor to serve in this ministry, and you are all appreciated. Just a few reminders:

1) If you serve as a minister at a given Mass and are able to stay after to clean the sacred vessels, it would be greatly appreciated. It takes just a few minutes, but it makes a big difference. If you can’t stay, that’s fine, but please try to step into the sacristy to help when you can.

2) Remember to spread out if you are a cup holder. The first two cup holders should be about eight feet from Father, one in front of the ambo where Scripture is read and the other almost to the piano. The second set of cup holders can actually go into the aisles, far enough so there is room for people to continue back to their seats in front of you. If people are bunched up, simply step as far back as you can.

3) When at the altar, cup holders should line up along the back, facing the altar and the assembly. Servers will be in the corner spot between cup holders and host distributors. Those with white medallions (hosts) should line up facing the side of the altar. This really helps Father and the deacons.

Let Kim know if you have questions (766-3773).

The Gift of Faith

“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” – Luke 1:28

Faith is a gift from God. During this Christmas season, take time in silence and pray to God. Thank Him for all the gifts He has given you. Try to set aside anger or resentment you have and open your heart to receive the gift of God’s grace.

Have You Been Away From the Church

and Miss It?

Maybe you have been away from the Catholic Church for a long time and have a strong desire to return. If you are a baptized Catholic, all you have to do is make a good confession. It’s that simple. Come to reconciliation from 11:00 am until noon any Saturday, or make an appointment with Fr. Tom at 766-3773. We joyfully welcome you back to receive the sacraments that the Catholic Church offers.

If you, or someone you know, has a child to be baptized, but they think their child is too old, it’s never too late. Please contact the rectory at 766-3773. Just tell them you want your child baptized or ask about another child, and we’ll get information to them.
