By the end of this lesson, I will be equipped with all of the information and equipment that I need for a successful year of English teaching and learning.

These are my basic classroom rights:

All teachers have the right to teach.All students have the right to learn.Everybody has the right to feel and be safe.Everybody has the right to dignity and personal respect.What do

these rights mean to you?

With those rights comes one very simple responsibility:

Everybody has the responsibility to ensure that we all enjoy our rights.How can you

allow others to enjoy their rights?

In allowing others to enjoy their rights, it is obvious that there should be rules

and expectations to guide us:

Here are some that allow me to exercise my right to teach:

I expect you to turn up to my lessons on time, with equipment and ready to learn.

I expect you to leave corridor and playground behaviour outside of my room.

I expect you to sit in your assigned seat, get equipment out and be ready to start on my first signal.

I expect you to listen when I am speaking.I expect you to perform to the best of your ability in

every lesson.Discuss with your team what other things you think I have the right to expect. I will ask you for your ideas in 5 minutes.

And what about your right to learn?

I’d like you to discuss your own right to learn.Think carefully about what stops you from learning.Think carefully about what you need from me, as a

teacher…And from your peer group.Think carefully about the types of behaviour that stop

you from getting the best from yourself in every lesson.

presented to the best of your ability;

5. Put your hand up when you want to speak;

6. Be respectful to everyone;7. Try your best!

Using Exercise Books

What is the purpose of this book?

• To develop and improve my Written English.• To gather and develop ideas• To produce first drafts.• To take risks and be adventurous without being

‘scruffy’.• To open up a dialogue with my teacher.• To develop the skill of writing under ‘timed’

conditions – to produce ‘neat work’ without redrafting.

You will be given a new book for this year.Your book is very important.

How can I achieve these aims?

• Keep my book tidy with appropriate headings and dates (underlined).

• Don’t write in the margin• Write down the learning objective.• Don’t scribble out or use Tip-ex. Don’t use felt tips.• Rule off at the end.• You cannot take your books home!NO GRAFFITI ON EXERCISE BOOKS WILL BE TOLERATED EITHER

INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. ANYONE WHO DAMAGES A BOOK IN THIS WAY WILL HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER!

At the beginning of every English lesson, you will start reading in silence.
