BMS Academics

0Four Secondary Schools are implementing quarterly exams each marking period.

0Middle School level- quarterly exams will be counted as a major assessment of the marking period, similar to a unit test

0A committee comprised of administrators and teachers made this decision, understanding these exams provide frequent assessment of student understanding, adjust teacher practice and evaluate programming

Teaching to the Teenage Brain

0Adolescent brains go through a surprising growth spurt around ages 10-13.

0Still-maturing teen brains are highly flexible, adapting and learning from experience and integrating problem solving skills- “adaptive adolescence” and truly formative years

0Adolescents need to feel sense of accomplishing challenging tasks –rubrics, goals, portfolios, research, debate, and gain status in classrooms
