About Cindy Dantzler

This is the start of my 36th year

of teaching. I taught fourth

grade for two years at the

start of my career, and then

moved to second grade here

at Stonegate where I have

been ever since. In my free

time I enjoy gardening,

cooking, walking my dog,

and Zumba. My favorite treat

is dark chocolate and ice

cream!

feedback as necessary

Progress Reports will be sent home at the midpoint of the marking period

Report Cards will be sent home at the end of each marking period

Grades are given for each measurement topic and are averaged to reflect an

overall grade for each subject, for example:

Social Studies Overall Grade: A

Measurement Topic: Civics A

• Provides differentiated efficient, effective instruction in phonics, spelling, and vocabulary

• Teachers assess a student’s pattern of word knowledge and then introduce words that fit that pattern (and that aligns with Curriculum 2.0)

• Students engage in Word Sorts to focus on the specifics of words and to learn how to examine words

Why the Next Generation

Science Standards (NGSS)

Students have interactive science instruction that

promotes-

• analysis and interpretation of data

• critical thinking

• problem solving

• connections across science disciplines

Page 24: Welcome to Back-to-School Night · Welcome to Back-to-School Night Second Grade. Goals for the evening • To inform families about the second grade curriculum and daily schedule

What is different about NGSS?

Students have the opportunity to-

• create their own investigations

• develop models to explain phenomena and solve

problems

• reason and support their conclusions with evidence

• use science to solve real problems

• engage in learning connecting engineering and

science practices and concepts

Some examples could be stickers, pencils, small toys, or a class book or game donation in honor of the birthday child. Celebrations will continue to happen at

the end of the school day.

Classroom Celebrations• We will celebrate with a party for Halloween/Autumn, Valentine’s Day, and the End-

of-the-Year. Room Parents will organize these parties. A donation of $20 will be requested from families.

Stonegate Folders • The folder should be reviewed, emptied, and returned daily.

Friday Folders• The Friday Folder should be reviewed, signed, emptied, and returned the next

school day (typically a Monday).
