Welcome to Tekla Structures for Beginner Modeling Manual. This course is for

beginner with no experience yet in using Tekla Structures software. And refresher also can

use this manual to refresh its modeling skills in Tekla. After completing the course, student

can do basic to intermediate modeling of structural members such as steel and concrete.

Introduction

Tekla Structures is widely used by engineers and contractors. It is the “Most Advanced

BIM Software for Structural Workflow” quoted from Tekla website. From design to

construction most company are using the full capability of Tekla.

Tekla is widely use by different professionals, from Structural and Bridge engineers,

Fabricators and Steel Detailers, Precast Detailers and Producer, and Concrete Contractor.

It means, learning Tekla can lead you to a better job. Most leading Structural company

in the world are using Tekla for their designs and construction job.

About the Author

Celfrey Salamanes has been using Tekla for 12+ years. Started using XSteel (Tekla

Structures old Name) version 11. And currently using version Tekla Structures 2019. Work

with Japanese company for 9 years, Danish company for 2 and a half years and currently

working as a home-based job with Australian company. Takes Bachelor of Science in Civil in

Engineering at Technological University of the Philippines-Manila. A licensed Civil engineer

under Philippine Professional Regulation Commission PRC.

TEMPLATE EDITING

Introduction

Tekla have loaded of default template installed Tekla in your PC. We have different types, a

graphical and textual template. Template location in our PC is located in the sample path

below. “C:\ProgramData\Tekla Structures\2018\Environments\australasia\template”. In

version 2019, “C:\ProgramData\Trimble\Tekla

Structures\2019.0\Environments\Australasia\General\template”.

Let’s Start.

I. Creating a Model

1. Please refer to Tekla DIY Learning, refer to link above.

2. Creating a drawing

a. Open Tekla Structures

- Double click Icon on your desktop.

b. Click New.

-

- Name a desired model name.

- Click Ok.

II. Creating a GA drawing

a. Right click on View.

b. c. Select “Create General Arrangement Drawing”.

d. e. Click “Drawing Properties”.

f. g. Load default properties.

h. i. Click Apply.

j. Select any drawing option .

k. l. Tick Open drawing.

m. Click Create.

n. o. Finished.

III. Opening Template Editor

1. Shortcut

a. Select template in the drawing.

b. Right Click.

c. d. Select “Edit template in Template Editor”.

e. f. Finished.

2. Open in Menu.

a. Go to Menu.

b.

c. Select Editors.

d. e. Select Template Editor

f. g. Click Open.

h. i. Select default template to Open.

j. k. Select drg_title.tpl and Click Okay.

l. m. Finished.

IV. Editing default Template

1. Editing Text Properties

a. Right Click Text.

b. c. Select “Propeties”.

TIP: You can double Click the Text to get Properties

f. g. Change Font with “Times New Roman”.

h. Color to Red.

i. Font Style to “Italic”.

j. Font Size to “5.5”.

k. l. Click Ok

m. Edit Content, add Drawing before General Notes.

n. Edit name with name you like.

o. p. Click Apply and Ok.

q. r. Finished.

2. Editing Line Properties

a. Double Click the line.

b. c. Name whatever you want.

d. Change color to Blue.

e. And Line type to dashed line (second line type).

f. g. Click Apply and Ok.

h. i. Finished.

3. Editing Picture Properties

a. If no picture seen, Click Picture.

b.

c. d. Select “Tekla_Structures_lolo.jpg” and Click Ok.

e. Box on the black Space.

f. g. To change picture.

h. Double click on Picture.

i. j. Click “Select File”.

k. l. Select “Tekla-Powered-by-logo.png”. and Click Ok.

m. n. Finished.

4. Editing Value Field Properties

a. Click “Project_Builder”.

b. Double Click.

c.

d. Click “Attribute”.

e. f. Select Address. (This is just for testing only)

g. Click Ok.

h. i. Select “Once”.

j. Select data type.

k. l. Data Types

• Number – when attributes will number (whole number)

• Meaning – means format of an attributes.

m. Select Text.

n. Click Ok.

o. Finished.
