This polisher is classified as a dual-action polisher. It is designed to safely apply polish andwax in a manner similar to hand application. In minutes, it creates a mirror-like finish and shinethat would otherwise take hours of hand labor. It will not create swirls or remove your car's clearcoat finish. The pad does not rotate in the conventional sense, it oscillates. This "jiggling" occurs at such a high rate that the eye can not see any pad movement. This polisher is not designed forheavy compounding and may not fully remove scratches, deep swirls or paint imperfections.

Hi-gloss, 6-1/2 inch, CCS,Foam Polishing Pads

These are the latest generation of foam polishing pads from Lake Country MFG. Theyincorporate a patented technology called CCS,Collapsed Cell Structures. This technology putsa pattern of collapsed "dimples" on the surface of the pad to slow the rate of polishabsorption, gradually releasing polish as neededby the operator. CCS Pockets reduce surface

tension, prevent pad skipping and allow the operator to run the pad flat on the working surface.

Professional results, evenif you're a beginner!Our CCS Pads feature two, additional, design innovations.First, they incorporate the latest, Constant Pressure™ tech-nology. Polishing requires you to keep a uniform and constantpressure on the surface being polished. Tilting the machine inany direction can result in an uneven and excessive pressurebeing transferred to the painted surface. Constant Pressuretechnology uses a layer of engineered, instant rebound foambetween the pad and the backing plate to absorb off-axismovements while keeping the pressure of the pad on the surface constant.

The other patented, innovation incorporated in CCS Padsare a curved outer edge. The curvature on the outer edge of the pad allows easy transitions overseams and inclines. Standard CCS pads are flat-cut. We pay extra to have the top edge roundedover because it prevents pads from snagging while polishing seams and edges.

Standard pads run thecourse backing to theedge of the pad.

We also pay attention to the back ofthe pad. Standard CCS pads run the Hookand Backing material to the edge of thepad. This material is very course and cancause scratching if it hits the paint whileworking in tight spaces or around mirrorsand wings. We cut the Velcro brand fasten-ing material back 3/8 inch from the edge.This allows you to work right against cor-ners, mirrors, wings and complex angleswithout fear of scratching the paintwork.

We trim the backing3/8” from the edge toprevent scratches.

A Hook-and-Loop Backing Plate is Required: All of our6-1/2 inch pads have a VELCRO® brand loop backing that requiresyour machine be fitted with a Hook-and-Loop Backing Plate. Thisplate may or may not have come with your polisher.

Yellow, CCS, Compounding Pad: Our most aggressive foampad. Use this pad to compound older vehicles with a dull, chalky orneglected finish. Note: Compounding can dull the surface (called com-pounding haze) which will require additional finish polishing to remove.

Special Foam PadsOrange, CCS, Power Pad: Developed in Germany fora leading automaker, this unique foam offers the cuttingpower of a compounding foam and the gloss enhancingcharacteristics of a polishing foam. When used with theproper polishing compounds, this orange pad removes2000 grit sanding traces, swirls and paint defects withminimal or no surface dullness. This pad creates so littlehaze that you can often go from compounding right tofinishing without the intermediate polishing steps.Where polishing is still required (often on black and red cars), it can be accomplished in a fraction ofthe time it would take with standard pads. The Power Pad gives enthusiasts the ability to removeswirls, water spots and fine scratches without spending hours polishing out surface haze! Green, CCS, German Polishing Pad: This green,urethane foam was selected by Mercedes Benz, Germanyfor polishing the new, scratch resistant clear coats. This is a high strength foam with 60 pores per sq. inch yet is softer, more forgiving and produces less spot heatingthan our regular foams which have 80 pores per sq. inch.This means it can remove minor swirls yet leaves asmooth, haze-free finish. It is designed to be used with adual-action polisher (like the Porter Cable 7424) but canbe used with a circular polisher if the speed is kept around1000 rpm.

This green pad was originally made for German clear coats but we've found it to work equal-ly as well on the current, harder, domestic clear coats being made by PPG and DuPont. On conven-tional clear coats, we recommend using this pad with BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish. On thenew, scratch-resistant clear coats, we recommend using this pad with BLACKFIRE ScratchResistant Clear Finishing Polish and BLACKFIRE Scratch Resistant Clear Compound. This pad is alsorecommended for applying one-step, cleaner/sealants like Klasse All-In-One and Menzerna One-step, Acrylic Jacket. In aggressiveness, it has about 20% more "cut" or polishing power than ourWhite Polishing Pads but less than our Orange Power Pads. Power Pad Clay Applicator: This pad allows you touse your Porter Cable 7424 machine polisher and 4 oz. of clay(use 1/2 of a BLACKFIRE PolyClay) to quickly and easily removesurface contamination and create a smooth-as-glass finish.

How to use the PowerPad Clay Applicator:Use 4 oz. of clay (1/2 of a BLACKFIRE PolyClay bar), form it into a round patty and place it in thecenter of the pad. The clay should rest slightly below the top surface of the pad. Mist the entirepad, including the clay, with a clay lubricant.

Place the pad on the surface and turn the machine on. Work over a 2 ft. by 2 ft. area using anup and down and back and forth motion. Lightly mist lubricant on the pad or on the surface asneeded to allow the clay to move freely. After several passes, release the pressure on the pad andgo over the area one last time allowing just the foam to contact the surface. Wipe off residueswith a dry Microfiber cloth.

4 inch, CCS, Spot Repair Pads: One of thesecrets to successful machine polishing is knowingboth what type of foam pad to use and what size padto use. I find the optimum size for whole panel (i.e.hood, trunk, fender, etc.) polishing is 6.5 to 7.5 inches.If I'm working on a specific blemish or paint defect,I prefer working with a 4 inch pad. This pad size allows me to focus on just the problem area and not affect the surrounding paint. We offer three different spot repair pads:

The DW849 has an 8 amp motor vs. the Makita's 10amp unit but it weighs nearly two pounds more.Much of this extra weight is attributable to theDeWalt's all ball-bearing motor assembly andheat-tempered, precision-cut gears. A Two Mode PolisherFor those of you new to machine polishers, there are two basic categories, dual-action and circular.With dual-action (also called orbital) machines, the pads do not rotate. They oscillate or "jiggle" in a random pattern. This random motion means the machine can not put swirls in the finish. Thismotion is also ideally suited for applying waxes and sealants. Because D-A machines are notdesigned to "cut" or remove paint, they may not be able to fully remove swirls or scratches.

Circular polishers, the kind used by body shops, aredesigned to "cut" or remove paint. They can abrade away

the surface completely eliminating swirls, scratchesand paint defects. Unfortunately, in inexperi-

enced hands, circular polishers can burnthrough the paint right down to

bare metal. Their higherspeeds also make themunacceptable for applyingmost waxes and sealants.

The Makita BO6040 Two Mode Polisher is two machines in one. It has an orange knob on the left side of the machine which switches it from a random orbital motion to a forced, cuttingmotion! This gives you both the power of a circular polisher for removing paint defects and theswirl-free motion of an orbital machine for final polishing and applyhing waxes and sealants. Wool Compounding PadsWool pads are custom crafted for specific tasks by carefully selecting the grade of wool, length ofcut, twist and blend of auxiliary fibers. The pads listed below are specifically made for compound-ing and leveling automotive finishes and should only be used with circular machine polishers.
