GENERAL CAREGIVING TIPS

Caregiver Do's... Keep everything as simple as possible. Give instructions one step at a time. Remember your loved one will follow you around and want to know where you are at all times. Maintain a daily, structured routine. Be gentle - provide affection and support. Maintain a sense of humor and acknowledge small successes.

Caregiver Do Not's Get irritated when they ask the same question over and over. Get upset, raise your voice or scold the patient. Argue with the patient to try to rationalize with them.

Caregiver Expectations To have normal feelings such as guilt, anger, sorrow, or helplessness. Sleep disturbances. Patients to be anxious, frustrated and to deny their problems.

Remember God is able to handle your concerns, peace is promised as you lean on Him.

Caregiver Support Group meets 3rd Tuesday of every month at 10:30 AM in room CE10. Contact Laura Arnold, 727-863-0176, [email protected]

GREAT NEWS! We are ready to bring the Tree of Life in the Me-morial Garden back to life and leaf out. We will gladly put an engraved leaf showing your loved one’s name along with the year of their birth and the

year of their death for a donation of $50 which will cover the cost of the leaf along with the engraving. You will have the choice of where the leaf will be placed on the tree along with the color of your choice, which is either Gold, Silver or Copper. If you are part of the church family, you can have a leaf placed on the tree for any loved one you have lost and want to rec-ognize. We all have loved ones in our lives that fit in this category.

If you are interested, please contact Barb Mathias for application and donation instructions. Once the leaf or leaves are returned from the engraver we will get in touch with you to determine where you would like them placed. It’s been a long time coming and we are excited to revive the Tree of Life as a memorial option.

Thank you, Barb Mathias

God’s Food Pantry at Hudson First UMC is blessed by God with it’s energetic, outstanding volunteers. They abundantly serve with passion and cheerful hearts. The volunteers al-ways greet the clients with respect, dignity, and fairness. They happily share God’s unconditional love for all. The vol-unteers of God’s Food Pantry are true ministers of Jesus

Christ to our local community. In sincere appreciation, I dedicate this column to them with some famous quotes:

“The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity.” Leo Tolstoy

“Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.” Sir James M. Barrie

“What you give of yourself is priceless.” Oprah Winfrey

“Blessed is the influence of one true, loving human soul on another.” George Eliot

“The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.” Albert Schweitzer

“The miracle is this—the more we share, the more we have.” Leonard Nimoy

As caring volunteers, you always do your part to share your time and energy with generous hearts. Because you make a different in so many valuable ways, I am grateful I can count on you to brighten everyone’s days.

God’s Food Pantry Tidbits by Doug Doan

I may be old but I haven't stopped growing! O. W. Holmes, Jr.

Oh, Lord, may this be true of me. As I grow older, may I also grow wiser in Your knowledge and wisdom, and more loving in Your Spirit. Amen

GETTING OLDER

It seems like yesterday when you were just beginning a family, just starting a career. Now you’re retired, and the children scattered, out on their own. You feel useless sometimes. It’s hard to fill the empty hours.

A Stephen Minister would like to be there for you. As a caring Christian friend, your Stephen Minister will listen as you sort through your feelings and find new re-sources for your life. If you feel a need for someone to be there for you while you work through a difficult time, talk with one of our leaders: Yvonne Noel, Pau-lette Wetmore, or Dave Viall.

Stephen Ministry by Tom Meier

As I am preparing this Weekly News to go to print, we have just been informed of Tom’s passing. This is his last article here on earth. I have no doubt he is now resting in the knowledge and wisdom of his Lord and Savior. He will be missed. Blessings, Kristie

PK—That’s not “preacher’s kid,” but Pastor Kent. He wants to hear from you as he studies and learns about Hudson First United Methodist Church. Please share your thoughts about the following question, and place them in the offering plate or leave on the welcome table. Per his request, let’s focus on the positive!

Question #1—What is your favorite thing about this church?
