What is the purpose of LAYERS? By default, when you paint with one color

and it overlaps another color, the original pixels are replaced.

Layers keep pieces of an image separate so that you can easily make changes to the art.

What is TRANSPARENCY?

Photoshop displays a checkerboard pattern to indicate there are no pixels in that area.

The underneath layer will show through. CHECKBOARD

More about layers:

Remember to name your layers by double clicking on the layer name.

Layers can be rearranged by dragging their positions in the palette. Top layers cover bottom layers.

Layers files must be saved as .PSD
