They are Respectful, Respectful, Outstanding, Outstanding, Accepting, and Accepting, and Responsible Responsible Our Assembly begins at 7:35 on Fridays. On other days, students should be in the cafeteria by 7:35. The teachers will pick the children up in the cafeteria at that time. If your child arrives after 7:45 a.m., he/she will need a tardy slip from the office before entering class. 7:35-7:45 Friday ASSEMBLY or Travel to classroom/ unpack & pledge 7:45-8:15 - ROAR ENRICHMENT TIME 8:15-9:45 - MATH & SNACK 9:45-10:30 SPECIAL AREA CLASSES 10:30-10:55 - RECESS 11:00-12:45 LANGUAGE ARTS 12:45-1:15 - LUNCH 1:15-1:40 LANGUAGE ARTS CONTINUED 1:40-2:35 - SCIENCE/HEALTH/SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) 2:35-2:45PLANNER & PACK UP, READ ALOUD & PREPARE FOR DISMISSAL LIBRARY: FRIDAYS 1:15-2:00 COMPUTER LAB: WEDNESDAY 8:30-9:15 GENERAL 3 rd GRADE SCHEDULE CHANGES IN END OF SCHOOL DAY ROUTINE 1.Tape note to the planner page or write a message in the planner. 2.Send your teacher anat least ONE FULL DAY AHEAD. 3. EMERGENCY CHANGES-call the office IMPORTANT INFORMATION When a student must be out because of illness or family business, please complete an ABSENT NOTE provided by your teacher or a doctors note. Send it to school on the day your child returns. (Suggestion: Tape it to the planner page or drop it off at the office.) ABSENCES If your child is sent home from school by the nurse, please send an ABSENT NOTE to cover that absence too. EXCUSED ABSENCES ARE ABSENCES DUE TO ILLNESS OR DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS. If a note is not received within 2 days the absence will be recorded as UNEXCUSED. Many of the activities we do in class are hands-on and interactive. If your child misses school due to an illness, teachers will prepare materials to help them get caught up. Absences due to family travel are considered unexcused absences. Teachers may prepare materials for your child to complete if you let them know ahead of time. General Classroom Expectations * Be RESPECTFUL; one voice, raise your hand, take turns, treat others the way you want to be treated *Be RESPONSIBLE; take care of your belongings, do your own work with care *Be MOTIVATED; help yourself and others to learn, do your best work *Be KIND, ACCEPTING OF OTHERS and HONEST *Have Fun! Students understand the school & class rules and have agreed to follow them. CHECKMARKS and PAWS POINTS are earned by individuals and the class for OUTSTANDING classroom/school behavior. CHECKMARKS are redeemed for special privileges once a month. Classes have special rewards for a predetermined number of class and individual points. BEHAVIOR PAWS-4 indicates that your child had a great day. 3 PAWS means that there were 2 reminders to follow the rules Additional difficulties in following the rules will lead to moving the behavior clip to 2, 1, or 0 PAWS. Behavior is noted on the planner page. A code letter or note will be written in the planner for 3 paws or less. (Key is attached to the inside cover of the agenda.) 3 RD GRADE CLASS MANAGEMENT STUDENT BINDER This binder contains important communication pieces. Take Home Notes and Homework assignments in the front pocket. Assignments and calendar updates in the spiral planner. BEHAVIOR PAWS are stamped for each day. Please initial in the space provided to indicate that you have reviewed the homework and the behavior log with your child. Set aside minutes daily. Check the planner and homework pocket then, review the information with your child. Students should be able to complete work with little assistance. Most of the work is practice and review of what was taught in class. If your child has difficulty with the assignment, please make a note of it on the page. If it takes longer than 1 hour to complete the homework, stop and write a note to the teacher. Communication about homework is important to the teacher. Daily homework includes 20 minutes of reading and 10 minutes of math practice or written assignments. Assignments are due the following day unless otherwise noted. A due date will be stamped on Book reports and Special Project assignments. Please help your child develop a good homework routine. Practice makes perfect! Remember to practice reading every night. We will participate in the AR program. Look for more information coming home about this great program. THE IMPORTANCE OF READING NIGHTLY Student A reads 20 minutes 5 times/ week= 100 min./week Student B reads 4 minutes 5 times/ week = 20 min./week MONTHLY READING Student A reads 400 minutes/month Student B reads 80 minutes/ month SCHOOL YEAR READING Student A reads 3,600 minutes=60 hours Student B reads 720 minutes = 12 hours 6 or more grades will be recorded for Reading & Math All other subject areas will consist of 3 or more grades. GRADES New this year: Report cards will now have Health grades separate from Science. Grades A = 90%-100% B = 80%-89% C = 70%-79% F = 60%-69% or lower Wednesday folder This folder contains School communications and Student work. Student work included in the Wednesday folder will contain practice pages & graded work. Smiley faces, checks, stars, stickers, or stamped notes will indicate practice. Papers with percentages, letter grades, and/or rubrics or checklists attached have been recorded as a grade. You will be able to check your childs grades on line. DR. PENA RECOGNIZES CHILDREN CELEBRATING THEIR BIRTHDAYS EACH WEEK. THEY ARE INVITED TO THE STAGE DURING ASSEMBLY AND ARE GIVEN A PENCIL WHILE THE ENTIRE STUDENT BODY SINGS BIRTHDAY WISHES TO THEM. YOU MAY BRING BIRTHDAY TREATS TO SCHOOL AFTER 1:15. CHECK WITH YOUR TEACHER FOR THE BEST TIME. PLEASE KEEP IT SIMPLE AND HEALTHY OR A NON FOOD SNACK. SEE DR. PENAS LIST OF APPROPRIATE SNACKS. CHECK WITH YOUR TEACHER ABOUT STUDENT FOOD ALLERGIES. Please feel free to send a jacket or sweater for your child if they are cold in our classroom. Our room tends to be on the cool side and the cafeteria is usually cold as well. Students should wear tennis shoes daily!
