Hello and Welcome Aboard Crystal Serenity
Please consult your green Stateroom Directory binder for complete information on the ship’s dining and room service options, bars & lounges, activities and entertainment possibilities, services, general information and telephone guide.
from Hubert Buelacher, Hotel Director
As we welcome the luxurious Crystal Serenity back to sea from her longest-ever dry dock, I am thrilled to introduce you to this beautifully reimagined ship. From more of the spacious, butler-serviced Penthouses and Penthouse Suites to offer you personalized service to streamlined technological upgrades to keep you connected to your journey and the world beyond, Crystal Serenity offers more of what travelers have always loved about Crystal.
All of us on board sincerely hope that the elegance and charm of our ship, along with the pleasant nature of our staff and crew, will provide you with a vacation experience unlike any other. We want you to know that every member of our staff and crew has but one goal: to ensure that you have the best cruise experience ever.
As always, the key word to describe the onboard experience we offer our guests is choices, and Crystal Serenity’s redesign presents more of them than ever. For example, you will find that you have a wide variety of dining options aboard Crystal Serenity, with open seating allowing you to dine as you wish. Waterside is located on Crystal Deck 5. Here you will find a diverse array of culinary choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus an extensive selection of fine wines. You may also choose to enjoy your evening in one of our three specialty dinner restaurants by reservation: Prego offers fine Italian fare, Umi Uma & Sushi Bar features the renowned Asian cuisine of Nobu Matsuhisa, both located on Promenade Deck 7 Aft. Yet another option is the all-new Silk Kitchen & Bar, located on Lido Deck 12 and serving classic Chinese comfort food for lunch and dinner. Enjoy the new Marketplace on Lido Deck 12 for casual breakfast and lunch fresh buffets, and Churrascaria in the evenings, located in the same space and serving traditional Brazilian bar-be-que specialties. Please refer to the back page of daily Reflec-tions for days and times for dining. If you prefer to dine in the privacy of your own stateroom, we also offer 24-hour Room Service. With all these choices, your biggest decision each day may be where to savor your meals!
Crystal Serenity also features an extensive enrichment and activities program. You may choose the world-class entertainment in one of our lounges, an informative Crystal Visions Enrichment Program lecture featuring a noted personality or expert speaker and personal growth options with our innovative Crystal Cruises Creative Learning Institute. For those who like to shop, Avenue of the Stars is home to three beautiful boutiques: Apropos, Crystal Collection and Facets.
For the fitness-minded, we offer the expansive and beautiful Crystal Life Spa & Salon. If Lady Luck calls to you, visit our Resorts World at Sea Casino. Or, you may choose a recent-release film at our Hollywood Theatre. And, to commemorate your time on board Crystal Serenity, our professional photographers from Paragon Pixels take pictures at various times throughout the cruise, including formal portraits. Daily Reflections informs you of all the activities and special events offered each day. As always, the choices are yours.
All of us aboard Crystal Serenity want to make this a memorable experience for you. Should you find you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask any member of our staff. That’s the spirit behind the “Crystal Attitude.” Like you, our friendly staff and crew have chosen the “Crystal Family.” Your satisfaction is our first priority. Again, welcome to the beautiful Crystal Serenity. Enjoy your cruise.

The shuttle schedule will be announced in the onboard daily newsletter Reflections. Please note, we are unable to provide shuttle schedules prior to the start of a sailing. If you do not wish to change for a meal in the afternoon or evening, alfresco dining on deck is available. After 6:00pm, casual daytime attire is not appro-priate. Shorts and baseball caps are not permitted for men or women.
Evening Dress Codes
Keeping in line with the continually evolving, more relaxed dress codes reflected throughout the world today, we have simplified our preferred evening dress codes to two types: Crystal Casual and Black Tie Optional. Please refer to the dress codes described in detail below. After 6:00pm, casual daytime attire is not appropriate. Shorts and baseball caps are not permitted for men or women.

Men’s Crystal Casual includes:

Guests dining in all of our restaurants, with the exception of Churrascaria, are asked to adhere to the Black Tie Optional dress code. We request at least a jacket to be worn by men for dinner.
On Black Tie Optional evenings, if you choose to change your attire following the evening dinner festivities, please maintain a minimum style of dress in keeping with the dress code described above in Crystal Casual.
Women’s Black Tie Optional includes:
• Formal cocktail dress • Evening gown • Dressy evening separates
Men’s Black Tie Optional includes:

Important Information about Gastrointestinal Illness (GI Illness) and its PreventionDear Guests:
As many of you may know, there has been discussion from time to time about gastro-intestinal illness (GI illness) and its most common cause, norovirus, also known as Norwalk-like Virus, and cruise ships. This illness occurs world-wide and is second only to the common cold in occurrence. Because of this, individuals with symptoms or having had recent bouts of GI illness may likely be included in a group embarking on board.
At present, we have no reason to believe there is an unusual level of GI illness on board. However, to minimize the potential for transmission of GI illness to our guests, we maintain a very high standard of sanitation and introduce even higher levels of sanitation practices when we suspect cases might exist on board.
The key to controlling any potential outbreak is to identify anyone who has GI illness symptoms as quickly as possible. Therefore, if at anytime during the cruise you experi-ence symptoms such as stomach pain, cramps, vomiting, fever, nausea, body aches or diarrhea please report to the medical center immediately.
While not life-threatening, GI illness is easily transmittable, and can be uncomfortable. It typically runs its course in 24 to 48 hours.
Some of the practices we follow in order to minimize the potential for the spread of GI illness are:
• Persons with symptoms or having had direct contact with persons with symptoms will be isolated until the medical officer deems it safe to return to shipboard activities.
• Frequently touched surfaces, such as elevator buttons and hand rails, will be sanitized often.
• Disinfection of staterooms and public areas will occur often.
• Self-service food handling by guests for ice cream, bar snacks and canapés as well as self-service in the Bistro and Lido buffet may be temporarily suspended.
Actions that you can take to minimize your risk of becoming ill or spreading it to others include:
• In each port, please use the hand sanitizer dispenser before boarding the ship and whenever one is located within the ship.
• Please wash hands with soap and water frequently.
• Avoid close contact with individuals whom you know have symptoms.
Further, while I am very much looking forward to meeting all of you at my Welcome Aboard and Farewell parties, for the above reasons I must refrain from shaking hands in the receiving line.
I thank you for your cooperation and understanding. All of us at Crystal Cruises wish you a most delightful and healthy cruise vacation.

Waterside Features Modern Cuisine MenuCrystal Cruises is excited to present our innovation in dining — Modern Cuisine selec-tions in Waterside. Our Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations, Toni Neumeister, and the chefs of Crystal Cruises have created a fresh, extra-sensory experience for your dining pleasure.
The Science of Food
Inspired by recent developments in food science that build on traditional cooking methods and take the traditional several steps further to reflect 21st century values, Neumeister and his talented team have crafted an exciting set of menus that will entice your palate. At a chef summit held exclusively for our Crystal culinary team, Neumeister, our executive chefs, and executive pastry chefs were joined by two guest chefs from shore-based restaurants to experiment and concoct new recipes. The guest chefs included a former research and development chef from the famous Fat Duck restaurant in Berkshire, England (Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant), and a specialist in precision temperature cooking. This illustrious team of culinary masterminds brewed up innovative, fresh recipes that will have guests asking for seconds!
Crystal’s Modern Cuisine
The result of all of this experimentation is the Modern Cuisine menu now offered in the Waterside. Our Modern Cuisine is based on the food science of contemporary cooking that uses special techniques, a variety of new equipment and the finest quality ingredients to ultimately reveal hidden properties in the food. Crystal’s chefs now employ equipment such as Pacojets (for transforming ingredients into ultra-light mousses), smoking guns, high emulsion blenders, extractors and spray guns to en-hance the flavors and textures of the Modern Cuisine menu, resulting in exciting and extremely creative presentations.
Guests will be treated to dishes that truly engage all of their senses. With intriguing textures that include foams, mousses and crystals gleaned from what you thought were ordinary ingredients, our Modern Cuisine will magically transform your evening meal into a unique, unmatched experience.
What’s for Dinner?
For example, on one night guests might find a dish of Charred Wagyu Beef Crudo, Mashed Potatoes and Horseradish Cream on the menu. On another evening, guests might wish to indulge in our “Trio of Oysters” pickled shallots, cucumber sherbet and oyster espuma or Baby Halibut, cockles dill chowder and snow peas. And be sure to save room for dessert – almond tart, marinated berries, cotton candy dome and strawberry consommé are perfect to top off the evening.
We hope our guests will experiment and indulge in the selections offered in our Modern Cuisine menu, however we also recognize that some of our guests would like to have options from our tried-and-true dishes available — our Crystal Classics. Each evening guests will be able to select from both the Modern Cuisine menu as well as the Crystal Classics menu, which includes such favorites as Prime Rib, Dover Sole “à la Meunière” and, of course, local influenced dishes such as Paella. Bon appetit!
The Vintage RoomThe Vintage Room, located between the Library and Umi Uma on the port side of Promenade Deck 7 Aft, was created to promote wine education and the fine wine selections offered on board.
In addition to occasional daytime wine tastings and discussions in this beautiful room, guests may partake in a variety of wine “themed” dinners on any evening of their choice during the cruise.
By special arrangement with the Head Sommelier, private parties of up to 14 guests can be arranged so guests may enjoy this exclusively Crystal experience of pairing wine and food.
Guests choose an array of fine wines from our Connoisseur Wine List and our Executive Chef pairs a selection of special culinary creations to enhance the quali-ties of each of the wines chosen.
During the dinner, our expert Head Sommelier shares his knowledge of these extraordinary wines, offers complete tasting notes and explains the unique properties of the vintages with the various food courses presented.
There are special themes from which a wine connoisseur can choose, such as A Wine Tour of Europe, Best Wines of Napa, The Italian Experience or New World and Old World Wine Comparisons. Four or five wines are usually chosen, and appropriate food courses to enhance the wines are presented during the leisurely, entertaining and educational evenings in the intimate Vintage Room.
There is a minimum charge of $2,600 for these exclusive private dinners, which includes the reserve wines and gratuity. All food on board is complimentary, so the special paired culinary preparations are included at no additional cost.
For more information or to reserve your Vintage Room dinner, please contact
Head Sommelier Jiri Kapal via the Reception Desk. A votre santé!

Welcome to Crystal Cruises’ Innovative...
Welcome to the ever-growing world of services offered by Crystal Cruises’ own Computer University@Sea. Founded in 1997 aboard Crystal Symphony, Computer University@Sea has gone from being the first full-service technology center on the seven seas, to the best in a sea of imitators. Computer University@Sea offers all of the basics of a well-equipped computing facility, plus many extras you’ve come to expect from Crystal Cruises.
The Computer University@Sea facility provides every guest with access to top-of-the-line computer, digital imaging and desktop publishing equipment as well as a complete selection of productivity and leisure software and full-time connectivity to the Internet.
In addition to the fee-based communication and publishing services that Computer University@Sea offers, you will find an abundance of free services that help make your experience on board unique to Crystal Cruises.
Computer University@Sea has worked with industry veterans over the past several years developing a comprehensive curriculum. Classes cover topics ranging from beginning courses geared toward someone who has never had the chance to get comfortable with using a computer, to advanced application training where even veteran computer users can learn a thing or two.
We are pleased to offer the service of our Technology Concierge, who is prepared to answer general questions about gadgets. The hours for the Technology Concierge are listed in Reflections, daily, on the back page.
For all of the digital shutterbugs on board, Computer University@Sea’s curriculum main-tains a special focus on classes on all aspects of digital imaging. And for those guests who aspire to something more than our regular curriculum, our Computer University@Sea instructor can design private lessons around your specific interests for a nominal fee. Computer University@Sea has recruited top computer industry professionals to assist you during your stay on board.
For this voyage, Computer University@Sea is pleased to welcome Stan Leja on board as guest instructor. Throughout the coming days at sea, he will lead classes, give lectures and make himself available to every guest who would like an extra touch of personal attention in becoming comfortable with all of the technology options at his/her disposal.
Computer University@Sea also employs a full-time staff who are available from 7:00am until 11:00pm to ensure that every one of your computer needs is met in the incompa-rable Crystal Cruises style.
Come by Computer University@Sea, located on Promenade Deck 7, Midship, Starboard Side, and meet the staff to enroll in one of the many complimentary classes or to learn how to access the Internet.
Please join us for our Open House today from 12 Noon to 11:00pm and tomorrow from 7:00am to 11:00pm. We are located on Promenade Deck 7, Midship, Starboard side.
CU@Sea – Your Satellite Internet Access Provider
Crystal Cruises is pleased to provide free Satellite Internet Access to our guests. All of Crystal Serenity’s Internet traffic travels from the ship’s satellite dish to a commercial satellite before returning back to earth and loading the web pages. While at sea, there is no local high speed Internet provider such as you would have at home. Satellite communication is the only way to “plug-in” and access the Internet. We are pleased to offer all the Internet comforts of home, and hope you understand that it takes a little extra time as web pages travel nearly 45,000 miles
in order to reach you.
Everything AppleOn this voyage, Del Mar College
Professor Stan Leja is also presenting
an updated series of ‘Everything Apple’
courses he developed for
Crystal guests on iPads, iPhones, iMacs, iTunes, iWork, iLife, and iCloud.
Complete course details,
including course fees,
will be available during
the Everything Apple Open House at
1:30pm on Friday, January 24th at
CU@Sea. Space is limited, so try to arrive
early in the classroom and be signed in by
1:30pm.
ValuablesFor your security, each stateroom and penthouse is equipped with a personal safe for small valuables that you would like to keep handy. Because you assume full responsibility for items kept in your stateroom, we recommend that items of special value be placed in the complimen-tary safe-deposit boxes, available at the Reception Desk.

Ship’s Medical Center (Phone 9911) Crystal Serenity’s medical staff consists of a doctor and three nurses. At least one nurse is on board at all times. Daily office hours are 8:00am to Noon and 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Doctor’s consulta-tion hours are 9:00am to 10:00am & 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
Emergency Medical attention (24 hours): call 9911. In an extreme emergency call 3333.
Please note there is a regular consul-tation fee; consultations outside the doctor’s office hours and stateroom calls are subject to an additional charge. Special examinations and/or treatment procedures are charged sepa-rately, as is medication.
The Medical Center is located on Crystal Deck 5 (port side corridor, just forward of the Reception Desk), acces-sible via the forward stairs or elevators.
Needle Containers Guests who need to self-administer
injections for health purposes should
contact your stateroom attendant.
For your convenience and safety, she will
provide a sharps container to ensure the
safe disposal of the used syringes/needles.
Guests with Physical ChallengesThe alarm system throughout the ship
gives audible warnings. If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or have any other physical challenge, please contact the Reception Desk so that, in an emer-
gency, we’re aware of your special needs.
For physically challenged guests requiring
Crystal Cruises Sales or Crystal Society
information please call #3863 or #3870
respectively to arrange assistance.
A Message About Safety from Captain Birger J. VorlandIn order for you to become familiarized with your Muster Station, an Emergency Muster is scheduled for ALL Embarking GUESTS today, Wednesday, January 22, at 4:15pm. Attendance is mandatory. For the purpose of the mus-ter, you are NOT required to bring your life jacket.
Emergency MusterIn case of A REAL EMERGENCY MUSTER, the General Emergency Alarm – seven short and one long signal – will be given by the ship’s alarm bells. When you hear this signal, proceed to your assigned Muster Station on Tiffany Deck 6, wearing your life jacket.
Your assigned Muster Station is indicated on the back of your stateroom door (as well as on your Guest Identification/Key Card). This sign also has instruc-tions on how to put on your life jacket, which is located in your closet. In an actual emergency, the crew will assemble at Emergency Stations throughout the ship to assist and direct you. In case of a total blackout, or if the corridors and staircases are filled with smoke, please follow the strip lighting at floor level to the nearest exit.
If you are in one of the public rooms when the emergency alarm sounds, proceed directly to your Muster Station. Life jackets and other necessary supplies will be provided there.
Fire On BoardFire is an extremely serious hazard on board, and we ask everyone to be very conscious about it. Due to the fire hazard, the use of candles, irons etc., is strictly forbidden in your stateroom. Please note that smoking of any kind is prohibited in Penthouses, staterooms and on the verandahs. DO NOT SMOKE IN BED! Never throw lighted ciga-rettes or cigars over the side of the ship; the draft caused by the ship’s speed can easily draw lit embers back on board and start a fire.
If you should detect smoke or fire, push the nearest fire alarm button and/or dial the Emergency Number 3333 and notify the nearest crew member. Please also be aware that an audible alarm is installed in your stateroom; this alarm will also sound on the Bridge. If this alarm sounds, stay calm and in case of fire, leave the stateroom and close the door behind you. Assistance will be on its way immediately.
General Safety TipsPlease exercise caution and sound judgment at all times, whether on board or ashore. Please also observe that like other cruise ships, Crystal Serenity is designed with higher door sills than what you are used to on land. There is a height difference between your bathroom and your stateroom floor. Therefore, please be careful when going through doors, or when stepping in and out of the bathroom.
Always hold on to handrails when walking on steps, stairways or gangways and be extra careful when walking on wet decks and when going through exit doors, especially in windy conditions. Please also be aware that there are occasional changes in the floor levels in certain corridors, especially along Decks 6 and 7.
Again, welcome aboard Crystal Serenity. Please have a safe and comfortable cruise.
Captain Birger J. Vorland Master, Crystal Serenity

Payment for Purchases on BoardFor your convenience, there is a “charge only” system on board. Simply sign vouchers for all purchases and services on board. Charges are placed on your account and billed to you at the end of the cruise. Cash, travelers checks, American Express, MasterCard, VISA, JCB, Diners Club, Discover, or personal checks in U.S. currency (up to $4,000 per person per cruise) are accepted for payment.
Your name and account number (5 digits = stateroom number + personal suffix) are printed on the check by the register. We request that each guest verify that the name and account number are correct before signing each bar bill/sales check, as the charge will be posted directly to your ship account.
Redeeming Shipboard Spending CreditsGuests sailing with us often receive a shipboard spending credit or onboard gifts (truffles, wine, etc.) from their travel agents, from
one of our Crystal Cruises travel partners such as American Express and Leading Hotels of the World, or through the Crystal Society
Rewards Program. These credits are intended to enhance your cruise experience, giving you the opportunity to enjoy additional
shipboard amenities and services. You may also, sometimes, receive a shipboard spending credit directly to your shipboard account
from friends, family members or your travel agent as a special “bon voyage” present. Crystal Cruises would like to clarify our policy
regarding these credits and gifts.
Shipboard Spending Credits
Shipboard spending credits may be applied to any onboard purchases or services normally charged to your shipboard account. These
include gift shop purchases, shore excursions, photographs and digital cameras, gratuities, laundry and dry cleaning, beauty salon or
spa treatments. Shipboard Credits cannot be redeemed or otherwise utilized in the Casino or for Bingo. Shipboard spending credits
may not be applied to port charges, future cruise bookings or stateroom upgrades. Further, any credits not used during your cruise
cannot be exchanged for cash or “held” on your account for a future cruise (with the exception of back-to-back sailings). Any un-
used shipboard spending credits expire at the conclusion of your voyage.
Onboard Gifts
Gifts you receive from our travel partners during your cruise, such as chocolate truffles and wine, may not be redeemed for cash.
However, should you choose to return any of these gifts, the equivalent retail value will be applied to your onboard account as a
shipboard spending credit, subject to the same provisions described above. Please note that flowers may not be returned for credit,
as they are perishable items. Gifts from the Crystal Society may not be redeemed for cash or credit.
