SUMMARY

Masks and social distancing are mandatory for the protection of all. Ushers, greeters, cleaners and sacristans are all part of the re-opening team who are eager to welcome everyone back and assist in making this a smooth transition. If any of you would like to volunteer in any of these areas, please let us know. We are always in need of your help. E-mail: [email protected] or call (708) 352-6209.

Once again, we remind you, that you have a dispensation from attending Sunday Mass during this Pandemic until further notice. Also, you are advised to stay home if you fall into the “at risk” group or are feeling ill.

It is imperative to call or register online for whatever service you wish to attend. In order to be more equitable, please contact the parish the week you choose to attend not weeks in advance nor ask to register for multiple weeks at a time. This allows others an opportunity to come to church. Please be patient with this seemingly slow process. As we move forward, daily Mass will resume and notification will be given to the parish. In the meantime, thank you all for your patience and please continue to celebrate daily and Sunday Masses with us online on our YouTube channel. You can also find the link on our website and Facebook page.

Youth Ministry

2019-2020 YOUTH MINISTRY LEADERSHIP AWARDS St. Cletus Parish is blessed to have so many teens who dedicate their time and talents to ministries and programs which support or parish and community. The St. Cletus Religious Education Office is proud to honor sixteen teens for receiving the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Catechesis. This award is given to those who live their commitment to share their faith and assist in the formation of the young children in our Religious Education program. These teens acted as Catechists, Aides and Mentors to children in our Special Needs Program, our Early Childhood Program, and in our Traditional RE Classrooms for children in Grades 1-8. I am privileged to recognize the following teens for the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Catechesis: Alexa Benitez, Grace Berger, Josie Berger, Chloe Brooks, Emma Cassidy, Kaitlyn Cassidy, Kate Dickman, Emilio Garza, Brady Gorman, Kasey Gorman, Elias Lopez, Estefani Lopez, Salvatore Lopez, Jacqui O'Malley, Itzel Serrato, Patrick Sheridan

Evangelization

The St. Cletus Religious Education Office is proud to honor three teens for receiving the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Evangelization. This award is given to those who live their commitment to share their faith and assist in the formation of children through Parish Evangelization events. Each of these teens invested over 35 hours of their time preparing for and leading our Vacation Bible School which provided the children of our parish the opportunity to have an encounter with God while forming them as intentional disciples. I am privileged to recognize the following teens for the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Evangelization: Maggie Rausch, Amanda Siegert, Emily Siegert

Peer Ministry

The St. Cletus Youth Ministry Office is proud to honor nine teens receiving the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Peer Ministry. This award is given to those who live their commitment to share their faith and assist in the formation of their peers through Youth Ministry

events. Each of these teens invested months of their time preparing for and leading either our tri-parish Freshman/Sophomore Retreat, or one of our three tri-parish Kairos retreats, which provide their peers with the opportunity to have an encounter with God while reflecting on their own faith journey. I am privileged to recognize the following teens for the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Peer Ministry: Daniel Czarny, Bella Dziak, Tess Grzegorek, Maggie Ketchum, Sabina Llerenas, Matt Luxem, Jack Petrak, Chris Vasti, Lucy Wenstrup

This award is given to those who serve as lectors, altar servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, cantors, and choir members during Saturday & Sunday masses. Each of these teens humbly shares their faith through volunteering their time and talent during the liturgy. We are privileged to recognize the following teens for the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Prayer & Worship: Brent Bergnach, Connor Dietz, Jack Doppke, Bella Dziak, Gillian McCauley, Trinitee McCoy, Leslie Mendoza, Nick Morlock, Maggie Rausch

Service & Social Justice

The St. Cletus Office of Social Concerns is proud to honor five teens receiving the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Service and Social Justice. This award is given to those who put their faith into action, serving those in need in our community. These teens have dedicated countless hours to serving others, especially through the Food Pantry. Since the COVID-19 crisis, they have all stepped in to help fill the gaps in our services. They’ve recruited other volunteers and created a welcoming environment for anyone looking for assistance. They have helped direct traffic, handle registration, check dates, and organize donations. They have broken down boxes, lifted heavy items, and worked in all sorts of weather. And they have done it all with compassion, grace, maturity, and while having fun! I am privileged to recognize the following teens for the Youth Ministry Leadership Award for Service and Social Justice: Katie Hess, Mary Jacobs, Kevin Jacobs, Zach McLean, Grace Rohrbacher

Sunday Readings

READING 1 Zec 9:9–10 Thus says the L : Rejoice heartily, O daughter Zion, shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem! See, your king shall come to you; a just savior is he, meek, and riding on an ass, on a colt, the foal of an ass. He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem; the warrior’s bow shall be banished, and he shall proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Ps 145:1–2, 8–9, 10–11, 13–14 R. (cf. 1) I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God. I will extol you, O my God and King, and I will bless your name forever and ever. Every day will I bless you, and I will praise your name forever and ever. R. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God. The L is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. The L is good to all and compassionate toward all his works. R. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God. Let all your works give you thanks, O L , and let your faithful ones bless you. Let them discourse of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might. R. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God. The L is faithful in all his words and holy in all his works. The L lifts up all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. R. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God.

READING 2

Rom 8:9, 11–13 Brothers and sisters: You are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also, through his Spirit that dwells in you. Consequently, brothers and sisters, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

GOSPEL

Mt 11:25–30 At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him. “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States of America, second typical edition © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Inc., Washington, DC. SHARE THE BURDEN

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). These words of our Savior seem to be in stark contrast to the previous chapter from the same Gospel, when we were told that if we do not take up our crosses, we are not worthy of Christ. Connecting these two messages might help us on our faith journeys. Being a follower of Christ surely means that we must embrace the cross, in its mystery of both suffering and triumph. This is something that we need not do alone, for the burden is often too heavy for us to carry by ourselves. Who, then, do we turn to? We can turn to the Body of Christ—the community of disciples gathered for worship. When we find the burden too heavy, let us remember that we can share that burden with our Christian sisters and brothers, who can help bring us rest. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

SAINT MARIA GORETTI (1890-1902)

July 6

Does anything match a mother’s pride in her children? First Communions, confirmations, graduations, weddings: how these delight a mother’s heart! Imagine, then, Assunta Goretti, the only mother ever to attend her child’s canonization! In poverty-stricken rural Italy, widowed Assunta tended fields for the Serenelli family, whose eighteen-year-old son, Alessandro, propositioned her barely twelve-year-old Maria; then, when she resisted, crying, “It is a sin! God forbids it!” he stabbed her fourteen times. As she lay dying, Maria assured the attending priest, “Yes, I forgive Alessandro! I want him to be in Paradise with me someday.” Imprisoned, unrepentant, Alessandro changed after dreaming that a radiant Maria had offered him fourteen lilies. “I’ve kept my promise,” she smiled. “You’ll be here with me someday.” Upon release, he rushed to beg Assunta’s forgiveness. “Jesus has forgiven you,” she replied, “my Maria, too. How can I refuse?” Next morning, mother and murderer walked arm in arm to church and knelt side by side for Communion. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR NOTE

As we are already into the 3rd week of June, we know just how quickly this summer will go. We pray you all have time to enjoy the joys of summer before we embark on the re-opening of school.

We are busy working in the office to make sure that happens smoothly. Our teachers plans are complete and they are ready for whatever comes their way. We continue to work with the Archdiocese of Chicago to make sure we are taking the best steps to reopen in the fall – safely.

Masks or shields will be required for all students. Please use this time to secure a few for each of your children. We want to make sure they can be cleaned and no one will be without. We will have St. Cletus masks available for purchase at Meet and Greet as part of our spirit wear!

Clear shoe boxes will be needed for supplies. Each child will need one to two of these (two for grades prek – 5) as we will no longer be able to share supplies. Extra supplies should be kept in a safe place at home so that when the markers dry up or the pencils break, the student will be ready the next day with fresh supplies.

We understand the difficulties these past few months and realize we still have much to be concerned about. We continue to work with our staff to conquer the challenges while still making this all about the students and their success.

We aim to provide peace of mind for the return to the classroom. May God Bless you and may you all stay safe and healthy.
