GOD RECONCILES WITH US

Call to Confession:

As for those who can belong to the church,

we can recognize them by the distinguishing marks of Christians:

namely by faith, and by their fleeing from sin and pursuing righteousness,

once they have received the one and only Savior, Jesus Christ.

They love the true God and their neighbors, without turning to the right or left,

and they crucify the flesh and its works.

Though great weakness remains in them, they fight against it by the Spirit

all the days of their lives, appealing constantly to the blood, suffering, death,

and obedience of the Lord Jesus, in whom they have forgiveness of their sins,

through faith in him.

CELEBRATION OF THE LORD’S SUPPER Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. With joy we praise you, gracious God, for you created heaven and earth, made us in your image, and kept covenant with us—even when we fell into sin. We give you thanks for Jesus Christ, our Lord, who was exalted as King of the universe, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow. Therefore we join our voices with all the saints and angels and the whole creation to proclaim the glory of your name. *Sing: “Holy, Holy, Holy” LUYH #538:4

The Institution

We give thanks to God the Father that our Savior, Jesus Christ, before he suffered, gave us this memorial of his sacrifice, until he comes again. At his last supper, the Lord Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup after supper and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this in remembrance of me.” For whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (Corinthians 11:23-26). Therefore we proclaim our faith as signed and sealed in this sacrament:

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Lord, our God, send your Holy Spirit so that this bread and cup may be for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. May we and all your saints be united with Christ and remain faithful in hope and love. Gather your whole church, O Lord, into the glory of your kingdom. We pray in the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

The gifts of God for the people of God.

Response from Psalm 103: Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 10 1Send out your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will get it back. 2 Divide your means seven ways, or even eight, for you do not know what disaster may happen on earth.3 When clouds are full, they empty rain on the earth; whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie. 4 Whoever ob-serves the wind will not sow; and whoever regards the clouds will not reap. 5 Just as you do not know how the breath comes to the bones in the mother’s womb, so you do not know the work of God, who makes everything.6 In the morning sow your seed, and at evening do not let your hands be idle; for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.7 Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.8 Even those who live many years should rejoice in them all; yet let them re-member that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.9 Rejoice, young man, while you are young, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Follow the inclination of your heart and the desire of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.10 Banish anxiety from your mind, and put away pain from your body; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.

Message: “Duty of Delight” Pastor Laura

Garden Club will be touring the garden of Mary Merritt, 12577 Lakeshore Dr, on Tuesday, July 13th at 10:00am followed by coffee and a tour of the Otten’s Gar-den. Plan to meet at church at 9:45 to carpool. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Kids will be attending Rocky Railway VBS this week Monday-Thursday from 9:30-11:45. Sign up is on our church website. Please pray for God to work through all the volunteers this week as they minister to our littlest members as well as peo-ple of the community. Reach out to Rob with any questions. THE COUNTING COMMITTEE The Counting Committee at church would like to share the following information with the congregation, hoping to bring a better understanding of the process used and the people involved who record our gifts each week. Several years ago, a Counting Committee was set up at Second CRC to work with the Deacons to count the collections. The committee is currently made up of Chairman-Les Lewis, Nancy Brouwer, Mary Jo Schaaf, Carol DeWitt, and Art Bolt. During the week, we get the envelopes and cash that have been dropped at the bank on Sunday. We open the envelopes, count the money, and assign it to the proper envelope number and causes for the accountant/treasurer. After all sheets, with envelope numbers are balanced, the money is deposited in the bank and a bank deposit slip and sheets are sent to our church accountant, Kim Lange-land. Here are a few reminders for the congregation and new members. When mak-ing out envelopes, write the amount you want given to each of the categories listed. If money is not specified for any of the categories, it will be placed in the General Fund. If you have a special check sent to the church (ie. from a financial institution), have a memo on the check to let us know your name &/or envelope # and how you want the check amount allocated. Cash and checks collected, not in envelopes, are given to the loose offering. Also make all checks out to Second Christian Reformed Church, not the weekly cause. If you have any other questions or concerns, contact Jeff Erickson, our current treasurer or a member of the counting committee.
