Dear parents/carers,
It was lovely to welcome back more of our key worker children and our Year 6 children into
school last week.
Thank you for supporting our phased return as this ensured that the re-opening and return to
school was able to go very smoothly.
The children who returned last week settled in well and quickly adapted to the new systems
and protocols in place to ensure that staff and pupils remain safe.
We are aware that the lived experience for families and children during the coronavirus pan-
demic may be very varied. We also do not underestimate the effect that this experience may
have had on our children and their families. If you think there is something important that we
should know about your child, or if your circumstances have changed, please don’t hesitate to
get in touch. For wider support, you can contact Reach 4 Wellbeing using the following link:
https://www.hacw.nhs.uk/reach4wellbeing/
If your child has returned to school, and for any reason they are not attending on a particular
day, for example if they are unwell or if you are looking after them at home, please let us know.
If your child shows any symptoms of coronavirus - a new and persistent cough, a temperature,
a loss or change to sense of taste or smell, please do not send them into school and contact us
to let us know.
For those children unable to return at this time, we haven’t forgotten you and we will continue
to make weekly contact via your child’s class teacher. Home Learning is being posted on the
Abbeywood website and on Sharepoint in Office 365 as usual.
As we are sharing more information via the Weekly Update and will be using Epraise going for-
ward, please can you ensure that we have an up to date email address for you. If you haven’t
been receiving information, please contact the office to check the information we have on file
for you.
Many thanks to the parents who have responded to our survey around our school’s visions, aims
and values. If you haven’t already done so, please can you share your thoughts using the fol-
lowing link:

RSA Art competition Last week Miss Farrell launched the RSA art competition asking for
families to send in their attempts to replicate a piece of art at home.
Owen Teague, Lucas Osborne and Jakub Urban have all had a
go at re-enacting the Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte’s The
Son of Man.
Alexie Osbourne has recreated an illustra-tion by Wladyslaw Theodor Benda which was created for the magazine, Hearst’s International. Alexie has done a fantastic job at recreating the peaceful gaze and bold colours and I think she had a fun time having a go!
Sam Bench has
done a great job of
replicating a Picasso
painting, The Man
with the Guitar.
Patryk Budzik has had a go at tackling three different contemporary and classic paintings. Fantastic work and research Patryk!
Afarin Sajedi – Chef Offer, Fork. Jan Van Scorel - Portret żony artysty. Jan Van Eyek – Portrait of a Man paintings.
Amelia Cook has recreated Van
Gogh’s Vase with twelve sunflowers
using pointillism and tissue paper.
Central RSA Academies Trust – Photography Competitions
We know how much you all love to take photos on phones, so the Trust
are running a weekly photography competition for the next few weeks.
There are prizes by age group for winning entries, and the winning en-
tries will also be published in our Central RSA Academies Trust maga-
zine, DesignEd, in a special ‘lockdown’ edition.
Each school has been asked to submit a winning photograph by key
stage. Each winner will receive a £10 gift voucher.
There will be an overall Trust ‘gold award’ – prize £50 gift voucher, ‘silver
award’ £25, ‘bronze award’ £10.
This competition is open to pupils, parents and staff!
Week one – Through the window
Deadline Monday 15th June - 3pm
Take a photograph through a window, open or shut, from inside looking out,
or from outside looking in. You can include objects on a window sill or a per-
son or even a pet. Use your imagination, be creative and have some fun!
If you include a person, they will need to give permission for this, and if we want to publish
it will require a form filling for their permission (or your parents if it is you)
All you have to do is submit your photograph to your class teacher via your class email by
the deadline.
Monday 15th June for your chance to
win!
Journal Jazz
We hope that you enjoyed
receiving your journals at
home over the past couple of
weeks.
Each week we will give you
some ideas of what you can do
in them—just for fun!
Please send in anything you
may wish to share with us.
Dirt bike demo’s
Thank you Maggie Osborne for sending in pictures of your hobby, dirt biking. Maggie has been unable to do this for most of lockdown but is pleased she is now able to practise again.
Parisian Places
Well done Jakub Urban for his fantastic example of a
French tourist guide to Paris!

Worst years of my life by James Patterson
This is a great book because it is all about using your imagination. If you like art you will love this because there are amazing pictures that you will want to copy. The main character is called Rafe (which stands for Rules Aren’t For Everyone) and he often gets in trouble for breaking the school rules. The thing is, lots of the rules are unfair and the school principal has banned art! But beware, if you pick this up and expect to read for a few minutes you won’t be able to put it back down for a long time. I enjoyed it so much that I really want to read the others in this collection now.
