The increase, which raised the monthly utility allowance by 32 Euros to a total of 656 Euros, was based on data gathered through the OHA Utility and Recurring Maintenance survey taken by members receiving OHA in Germany. The increase will take effect June 16. "Thank you to all who took the survey," said Marlena Walker, USAREUR's chief of financial management policy. "The increase is a tangible result of the time and effort put into taking the survey." Department of Defense Military Advisory Panel members approved the increase May 31. The next OHA Utility and Recurring Maintenance survey for Germany is scheduled for March 2012. "Today, the Army in Europe is America's strategic forward enabler," said Lt. Gen. Mark P. USAREUR came to Europe 69 years ago TODAY to fight in a multi-national coalition to win World War II, and stayed in Europe to help European allies maintain their freedom during the Cold War. Since 1989, USAREUR has transformed from a heavy force postured to win a land war on the plains of Europe to an agile, modern, rapidly deployable force; tailored in Europe to train, to deploy, and to support multiple combatant commanders.

Survey results lead to

Overseas Housing Allowance increase Eligible service members will soon be seeing more money in their bank accounts, thanks to the results from the 2011 OHA Utility and Recurring Maintenance survey. The increase, which raised the monthly utility allowance by 32 Euros to a total of 656 Euros, was based on data gathered through the OHA Utility and Recurring Maintenance survey taken by members receiving OHA in Germany. Tank Trail Open to POV co-Use The tank trail which transits between Main Post (gate 4) and Rose Barracks (gate 2), is now open. Co-use of the tank trail by POVs will be permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Drivers must be in possession of an I.D. card or installation pass to use the tank trail. This initiative of a "one community" connecting road, allowing community members to transit from one side of the installation to the other without leaving post, is the result of having heard the voice of our community stakeholders; the initiative follows a year of planning and review in order to make this "one community" road possible. NOTE: The tank trail may experience closure during high intensity training events, use of range 132, or inclement weather. Only the tank trail which transits between Main Post Gate 4 and Rose Barracks Gate 2 will be open to co-use by POVs. Speed limits vary along the tank trail and will be strictly enforced. AFN Europe Moving to New Satellite Now – 31 July: AFN’s satellite delivery platform is changing, requiring viewers who have an AFN

decoder and satellite dish in their home to make some changes to continue to get AFN TV. Since the process of setting up a dish and re-adjusting a decoder varies according to decoder model, location and other variables, the help desk and on-line materials are especially critical. AFN Europe has posted manuals and how-to-videos in English, German and Italian at www.afneurope.net. Click on the Eurobird 9A icon for the manuals and videos. For additional assistance, the AFN Help Desk is open Tuesday-Friday from 1 - 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. -8 p.m. (Central European Time). Viewers from Germany, Italy, Belgium, the UK and most other European countries will be able to call in via a toll-free number, 00800-2362683662 (00800-

afnantenna). Direct-to-home viewers will need to reconfigure their home decoder and realign their satellite dish from the current satellite Hotbird 6/9 at 13 degrees East, to the new satellite, Eurobird 9A (EB9A) at 9 degrees East. AFN apologizes for the inconvenience, but assures the move to the EB9A satellite positions will better serve the AFN audience in the future.

Consolidation of Value Added Tax (VAT) Relief Services Effective immediately: The Directorate, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation announces the consolidation of

USAG Grafenwoehr Value Added Tax (VAT) Relief Services, currently available in both locations (Rose Barracks and Main Post) into a single full-service office on Main Post in Building 539. This move was made possible with the introduction of the Family and MWR website online ordering program. Customers no longer have to make multiple trips to the Tax Relief Office; after initial enrollment and verification of eligibility, Valued Added Tax (VAT) forms for purchases under Euro 2,500 can be ordered from the convenience of your home! Unfortunately, Utility Tax Avoidance Program (UTAP) enrollment and VAT forms for purchases greater than Euro 2,500 still require a trip in – but, we assure you it is worth! Value Added Tax (VAT) Relief Services will merge by June 11, 2011. More information on the Tax Relief program available at www.grafenwoehrmwr.com, via email: [email protected] or by calling DSN 475-1780, CIV 09641-83-1780.

Introducing a new program: Starting a Childcare Co-op A child care co-op, sometime called childcare exchange, is an increasingly popular option for budget-conscious parents with a large circle of friends. In a co-op, parents take turns watching each other’s children. One parent might watch another parent’s child on, for instance, Mondays or two half-days, while another might watch the first parent’s children on a weekend evening or perhaps on Thursdays. In some groups, parents take turns watching everyone else’s children as a group, while in others they watch one family’s children at a time. This keeps the cost of child care down and keeps kids in the hands of caregivers parents trust. Interested? Contact Parent Central Services today at DSN 475-6656 or DSN 476- 2760. Brochure available at www.grafenwoehrmwr.com/cyss/cyss.html

Children‟s Day “The Fairy Godmother“ 10 June: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Old Town Hall

The Fairy Godmother project is a campaign initiated by PRO WEIDEN and its project partners aimed at promoting a child-friendly Weiden. Following the example of other cities like Coburg or Chemnitz, the partners of The Fairy Godmother project, i.e. businesses and institutions all over Weiden, will be identified by stickers bearing the „ Fairy Godmother" emblem. All businesses bearing the „Fairy Godmother― emblem guarantee to make shopping with children a pleasant experience for children and to donate part of their proceeds from your shopping for aiding children in need. And for children who play a little hard and bump their knees, all participants of the „Fairy Godmother― project will have band aids and consolation candy handy to take care of those little scrapes and scratches. Whenever a child gets lost in the course of a stressful shopping day, parents may safely rely on being informed promptly. Even a call home or to a friend’s residence will help. With the slogan ―The Fairy Godmother Project – Campaign for a Child-Friendly Weiden,‖ PRO WEIDEN wants to give children a sense of safety and protection.
