uplands school weekly newsletter - term 3 issue 6 - 5 june 2015

1 To all in the Uplands Community, After last week’s bumper newsletter, I think that this will be a much slimmer edition. The reason being, Mr. Skinner and Mrs. Nicholson are currently at the Penang Sports Club having been at the Primary FOBISIA games this week and I am attending an IB Workshop in Singapore! Next week however, we will be reporting in detail on the Primary FOBISIA games that Uplands has been hosting all this week. 280 children, 60 staff and over 100 parents have travelled from as far as Seoul and Beijing to join in this annual sporting event! It has been a major undertaking to plan, prepare for and execute. I would like to thank Mrs. Nicholson and Mr. Metcalfe, in particular, and all the staff, students and parents who have made the last three days so successful and memorable. An initial selection of photographs are on the school’s Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/uplands.school More to follow after the weekend. PSAT Testing for Year 9 to 12

    Friday June 5, 2015

PSAT & SAT Testing/Preparation at Uplands. As students enter the final stage of the year with exams and

exam preparations complete, we are also looking ahead to next year and higher education readiness. In

May of 2016 the SAT will undergo an overhaul as will the 2015 sitting of the PSAT/NMSQT. To allow our

students access, practice, benchmarks and information for college readiness, Uplands will offer two testing

sessions. With its tightly aligned exams, the SAT suite offers a powerful tool for monitoring student

progress toward college and career readiness.

    For Year 11 & 12

The PSAT/NMSQT 10 will be hosted at Uplands on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.

The goal of undertaking the PSAT at Uplands is to aid in college and career readiness. With this in mind,

the PSAT test will be open to those students in Year 11 and 12 in October. The benefits for those students

as they engage in career and college research are:

On average those that take the PSAT score higher on the SAT

Student Search Service receive information from schools.

My College QuickStart - customized college and career online service.

Scholarships NMSQT entrance for eligible students to the National Merit and other programmes.

    For Year 9 & 10

The PSAT 8/9 will be hosted at Uplands on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.

The PSAT 8/9 is taken in Year 9 and 10. It establishes a standard against which to gauge student progress.

Free Practice Powered by Khan Academy

Students who take any exam in the SAT Suite of Assessments will receive personalized SAT study resources

based on their results. Their Khan Academy practice experience will be adaptive and tailored to meet each

    students individual needs.

Please register your students interest, or request information with Mr. Bill Mitchell, Head of Pastoral,

University & Careers Counsellor at Uplands. Initial Student Materials to be ordered soon. Further details

at the beginning of next academic year.
