The 2019 CISSA Sr. girls’ Basketball teams stormed into Saturday’s basketball tournament hosted by Suzhou Singapore International School. The Nanjing Lions fielded two teams. Both teams demonstrated outstanding play and sportsmanship. The Blue team ended with a record of 5 wins and 1 tie and the Yellow team had 4 wins and 2 losses.

The lions’ tough defense made it so teams had difficulty scoring points against them and their nifty offense kept the opponents scrabbling. Sophia showed that she can “post up in the paint”. Chloe highlighted the teams attitude this season, and Marissa and Katie showed it by dominating the rebounding and driving for a score. As their coach, I am proud of the growth mindset each girl embodied this year. We had fun and played the game to its fullest. Congratulations on an outstanding basketball seasons CISSA and SCISAC girls’ basketball players.

This month NIS was involved in two fantastic basketball

events in Taiwan and Shanghai.

On Wednesday the 8th of May we set off with twelve Middle

School boys to compete at the SCISAC basketball tournament

in Taiwan.

The Taiwan tournament was held at MUST Sports Center in

Taichung city and ran over three full days. The event

comprised of international schools from different countries

and our boys finished in 4th place. Outside of the

tournament our team had many opportunities to enjoy the

local sites including Xitun Zhang Liao Temple, Tai Chung

Night markets and even got to meet Iron Man at Rainbow

Village!

This trip was soon followed by the CISSA Senior Boys

tournament held at Shanghai American School in Shanghai,

Puxi. On the afternoon of Friday the 17th, we set off on the

bus to Shanghai with fourteen boys split into two teams.

Our boys played a total of twelve games against schools

from all around Jiangsu Province and were undefeated.

At both events our NIS Lions played their hearts out

displaying an excellent level of toughness and perseverance

and gained valuable game experience.

CISSA JR. BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Shanghai The 2019 CISSA Jr. boys’ basketball team hopped on a bus to Shanghai immediately after school on Friday May 17, 2019. We enjoyed a team meal and set-off the next day for games at Shanghai Community International School (SCIS). The boys played 7 games total, mostly back-to-back with little rest. They were great sports, played hard, together and overall had a great trip. They scored 94 points total and conceded 78 so it was action packed!
